This may be a stupid question, but........... Do you have to be staying at a disney hotel to eat at the restaurants such as the California Grill?

No queston is stupid here! And, no, you don't need to be staying at a Disney hotel to enjoy the hotel restaurants.

Not at all Verity - in fact a restaurant like California Grill is very popular with locals who aren't even on vacation.

You also don't need to be staying on-site if you want to make a PS. Which was one of my first questions along time ago. The CM at teh end of the phone will ask you if you are staying on WDW property but that's just for their own information and by no means to judge you.

Take advantage of the restaurants even if you aren't staying on the property....just make sure to make a Priority Seating for the popular ones...the California Grill being one of those.

Try Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary also, if you like character meals. Good food and fun for kids of all ages. One of the best character meals in my opinion. The towel twirling song is a blast.

Bottom line have fun and enjoy your stay!

What a stupid, stupid question! You should be ashamed, I tell you! ASHAMED!

Just kidding. It's not a stupid question at all. In fact, I used to think that only people staying at particular on-property hotels were allowed to eat at those restaurants in their own resort.

You should resort hop if you have the time in your schedule. The resorts are beautiful and they have some of the best restaurants in the World!

Definitely check out some of the resort restaurants. Some of the best places to eat are at the various resorts. You get great food and a chance to check out the different resorts.
