May 9, 2012: 5 Night Bahamas Cruise on Disney Magic

I would SOOO do that but don't know if I can hold out that long for a cruise :rolleyes1

May is a decent price for the Fantasy...kind of. And since when did I think that 7,000 for a CRUISE is a GOOD price!!?? DCL has me going crazy.:lmao:
Oh trust me.. i would rather sail NEXT May but it just isnt in our budget. And OMG is a FULL week on the Fantasy going to cost $7K :scared1: I might not be able to tell my DH the real cost of that trip :rotfl:

I have a client sailing the Med on the Epic right now! So anxious for her to return and give me the scoop. (And her thoughts on those crazy staterooms with the sinks in the room, and somewhat open bathroom/shower area!)
Ya I have heard the rooms are odd.. and wave shaped, but everyone I know that has been on it said it was great!

Tiffany sorry you are so sick! That stinks to have all of that when you are NOT pregnant

I would also agree that we saw Kelly and family the most.... Hmm outside of Jen and her family. My twins loved her boys!

We saw a lot of Jenn and her boys too! So much fun.

I just finished going through our FE gifts and let me just say, once again, thank you all so much! A lot of things got eaten/used on the trip and some of these will make lifelong keepsakes.

I JUST actually read one of the gifts from Cindy and see that it is for the baby! These socks are officially the first gift he has received. I got all teary eyed. What a special thing. I wish every time we cruise it could be with this awesome group.

I did not do a great job of keeping track of who sent what (and my labels for most of mine got lost and were only found when we were packing to leave so most of mine were anonymous). Who put in the Sugus candies? They are SO GOOD!

I think she put everyone who requested a dummy on the same sailing. :rotfl: We're all sailing a Dream 3-day in October 2013!!!! :woohoo: J/K!

I was questioning my BiL about the soda passes & bar drink prices on RCI. He said he thought the fountain sodas they got with the pass tasted very watered down. If you think about it, at the $5-$7.50/day for those soda passes you could buy 2 or 3 of the canned sodas at $2.50 each. Do you really need to drink more sodas than that per day? He said the bar drinks were pretty reasonable and the drink-of-the-day was even cheaper. We rarely drink so we're pretty cheap drunks. Think we'll get the boys the soda passes and go free-style for us on the RCI cruises. :thumbsup2

Crud! I have a 4-day sailing in October 2013. (Which of course is just a dummy sailing as well, even though at the time of booking it wasn't intended to be. And now Kelly has me contemplating keeping that one in place. Oy!)

Yeah, those fountain sodas on RCI are something else. Even though it is against RCI's official policy, folks have reported being able to carry-on a six pack of soda on most ships. I will say RCI's drink prices are reasonable. Just be sure to get the one in the giant pineapple (I think that's usually out on sea days)...it's $9 but really, really goooooooood!

Cindy, you are so right about this group! I thought the way it went after our Dream 3-day last year was how it worked. We got back, a few people posted something along the lines of: "That was fun. See ya." That was it. This group has kept the fun going and helped each other survive the big post-cruise blues. Love that we're building each other up for future fun and enabling each other for future cruises both with Disney and other lines. This is just awesome. I'd love to cruise with you all more! I  you!!!! :grouphug:

So glad I'm not the only one who thought things were the norm on the other cruises with meets and exchanges and such. Well, maybe they are the norm and we are just an abnormal group! :rotfl:

Nah, I was just on a mission. Plus I think I had taken a couple wrong turns before I found the place :lmao: I was going to stay and chat but it didn't seem that conversation wasn't going to stop anytime soon. The barista seemed to be on a rant :rotfl2:

Oh to have been a fly on the wall for that conversation!

We have only cruised Princess twice and that was before Kaleigh. Ships were nice, smaller cabins, very different atmosphere. Don't think they have much in the way of kids clubs. From my understanding, kids clubs on other lines are only a few hours here and a few hours there, not all the time like DCL. I think when Kaleigh gets older (she will be 10 in September, so maybe 11 or 12) we will look at other lines for the itineraries. We are booked on a 6-night out of Galveston, but not for the itinerary!

The cruises are such a different experience than the parks. We like them both for different reasons, although, my waist-line likes the parks better! I like to feel pampered now and then. They cater to your every whim, though I don't have many. Someone is always there to refill your wine glass or ask if you need anything. I love to be on the ocean and look at the stars at night. I love to hear the waves off the ship. But, I love walking around Epcot and seeing the differnt countries. If we had the time and money, I would be on a 12-day Med cruise in a heartbeat!

Cruises, for us, are very easy going. That is one reason we almost never do shore excursions or the shows before dinner. We want to be outside as much as possible, since we are inside so much of the time at home because of weather. I still say, some cruise, I am not bringing any dresses and I am dining at Topsiders everynight. No dining room to be at a certain time. But, right now, we get all dressed up every night because we don't at home.

We do love going to the parks, but I think we have come to the conclusion we much prefer cruises. Maybe it's just me getting old! :scared1:

I agree, it's so awesome that this has stayed a chatty bunch, even if I haven't had as much time to contribute my own chattiness as I'd like!

The good news is that I don't have pneumonia (though I did have to have chest x-rays yesterday to rule it out), the bad news is that I do have major bronchitis and possibly a sinus infection too. Good grief!

Christina - it was great to meet you too! And all the rest of you as well. We saw Kelly and Crew EVERYWHERE and I joked a few times that I should just take surreptitious pictures every time and add them to my TR - Kelly Stalking Moments or something :lmao:. I refrained, and I think I only have a few pics while we were sailing out of Port Canaveral with you and Tracey in them. But I saw Tracey on the Key West morning as he was coming down from watching the sunrise on Deck 10, then we saw you on the bus back to the port. We saw you at Palo, we saw you at Twice Charmed. And at least 4 or 5 other times I would lean over to Brian and say, "There they are again!" Sometimes it's a small world!

Thank goodness no pneumonia! But ugh...hope the bronchitis clears up quick and you are feeling better soon.

We saw Kelly and crew everywhere as well! I saw her boys often, and I believe Brian must have remembered me from the meet (or somewhere) because he would kind of sort of wave or give me a nod as if he knew he knew me from somewhere. I just chalked it up to the fact we were one deck apart right near the aft lifts/stairs and had the same dining time. But, honestly it's funny how you can see the same people over and over on the ship, and yet never see others!

Oh trust me.. i would rather sail NEXT May but it just isnt in our budget. And OMG is a FULL week on the Fantasy going to cost $7K :scared1: I might not be able to tell my DH the real cost of that trip :rotfl:

Ya I have heard the rooms are odd.. and wave shaped, but everyone I know that has been on it said it was great!

I often book trips and then casually mention it months later to DH. :rotfl2:

Those Epic staterooms are definitely odd...forgot about the wave shape as well. That hasn't had as much discussion as the sinks and bathrooms! Received a message from my bud yesterday...they are having a blast! That's a good sign!

I believe the Sugus came from Luz??? Are those the ones that look like or are Starburst? Geez, I cannot even remember the candy anymore...it's long gone! :rotfl:

Yea! You found the socks. Just a little something for the sweet little guy. :)

Does anyone have a pic of the big water spout I can share with my parents?

Someone here had a few pictures...can't remember who. Will need to go back and look at the FB links since it was on their FB page. So bummed we missed that!

I am trying to plan my girls cruise in October, and the meet thread is so dead! Unlively bunch, and very disinterested in the FE. Totally, totally bummed! You guys must join me on Oct 4th of this year for a 3-nighter.

Oh to have been a fly on the wall for that conversation!

I know, right?? I was trying to figure out just what the conversation was about while the other barista was making my coffee. After he finished with my coffee I felt kind of silly just standing there listening, so I left :confused3

I think I talked to Brian and Chandler more than I talked to Camille :lmao: Steve said he talked to Tracey quite often but never knew his name. That's what he gets for NOT coming to the first meet. :sad2:

Yes I think that candy was from Luz!

Someone had pics... cant remember who. We totally missed that. Maybe it was a good thing.. might've freaked me out!

Maybe the thread will pick up later. This is such a busy time of year. It might not pick up til school starts. Seems like people are on the computer less in the summer. Jan-April stinks here in Chicago... the computer is my friend :rolleyes1

I dont think I have posted pics of our new baby Laila! She is such a great puppy! We picked her up on the Fri after our cruise.....

I know the feeling! Our meet thread for this September is totally dead too! I keep checking and there's nothing! We're only on page 9. I plan to pay in full next week. I sure hope things pick up!

Christina - your puppy is SO CUTE. I really want a puppy, but our current dog is 11 and his age is really showing. We thought it would be unfair to both him and the new puppy to get one now.

Oh definitely. My puppy is so good and well behaved but she is a puppy and wants to play. I have a yokie/shih tzu mix & a chihuahua that are so mad right now! My Chihuahua is actually doing better but my other 1 that is 4 (and I thought would love a palymate) HATES the puppy and bites & growls at her

Lala is SO CUTE!

And I have pics of the waterspout but haven't uploaded anything yet. My parents come in TWO DAYS and I am trying to clean out the office because they are divorced now and my dad needs a place to sleep apart from her. They get along which is awesome, but I am so busy trying to get the house ready for them. I will post here when my pics are up!

OMG....I miss being on the ship! So glad to see everyone still chatting on here!
What a great time we had!!! :lovestruc

Christina, the puppy is adorable!! The twins must love her!
Kaiden and Kody talk about Keaghan and Neveah all the time. They had a blast with them.

I am a little bummed that we did not book a dummy cruise at all! I honestly didn't think about doing a dummy cruise which totally makes sense now. Ugh!!! So bummed!
But we just found out that my friends who just got engaged want to get married on a cruise (Royal Carribean) next year so we will be going to that anyhow.

Weather here at home (CT) has been rainy and cloudy which isn't making this 'back to reality' thing any easier!
Looking forward to a nice long weekend!!! :thumbsup2

Jen that's fun that you at least have a cruise to look forward to! I love RC. Will you bring the boys? My twins still talk about your boys too. They all had a blast together! K was so sad on our last night.. "Im going to miss all my friends" It was so sweet!

Sounds wonderful, only it needs to be longer. Wouldn't the Panama Canal cruise be awesome?

I would love to do the PC cruise someday! My hubby, an engineer, has no desire whatsoever. Odd! We have a 7-night Eastern on the Fantasy for 2013. Trying to talk mom into that one.

I didn't even think about schools in the midst of ending their year. Hope that is the reason! Jan-April in Chicago is that time of year you get to play clothes roulette. "Gee, should I put the wool away yet. Ok, it'll be 70, let me pack that up." Fast forward 2 days. "Crap! Where did I put that wool sweater?" :rotfl:

I dont think I have posted pics of our new baby Laila! She is such a great puppy! We picked her up on the Fri after our cruise.....

Oh, Laila is so cute!!! Love having new fur babies. Our youngest (a siamese cat) is almost 6. Time to add to the brood, me thinks!

Oh wow! I would have figured September threads would be hopping a bit more by now. What if people are bailing on FEs??? Horrors!

We are in the same predicament. Our "puppy" is 15 (although she acts like she is two, with all the jumping, running, and playing she does!). We will not even consider another dog at this point. Even bringing another cat in probably wouldn't be the greatest.

Ha! Isn't it funny how they can react so differently. Our oldest cat, Ebony (she will be 13 in a few months), cannot stand any other fur siblings to be brought in. All attention must focus on her (although she doesn't fight any of the others, she just prefers they are not around). Luna, the six year old cat, will play with any and every animal, person, whatever, that comes near her. She loves action. Now, our puppy, typically loves any and everyone, but for some reason she never took to Ebony. :( Which is why I think Ebony doesn't care for other fur siblings anymore (she was never like that until Klondike, the puppy, tried to "attack" her).

Oh, you will enjoy RCI. They are my second choice for cruising and have some really fun activities on their ships. (And DCL may just send you the onboard booking benefit email to nudge you to do so - it's a crapshoot who they send it to and when, but typically it arrives within two weeks after the cruise ends).

Time to go make coffee for Mom!

Time to go make coffee for Mom!

We have done the PC cruise back in 2005 on the Magic. It was such an awesome cruise, not to mention being on the ship for 2 weeks! Kaleigh wants to do it again since she doesn't remember it. She was almost 3 at the time.

I am just switching out winter clothes in drawers today! I did mine, still have to do Kaleigh's.

I keep wanting to hit the "like" button! The new puppy is sooo cute! Kaleigh would love a dog, but we travel too much. We have 2 cats.

I just told my FB friends today that I am taking the summer off from games so I can be outside intead of on the computer.

I only managed to exercise 1 day of the whole week trip. On Key West morning I got up to go run. A friend who was on the 1st Magic 5 day had noted how the running deck was partially blocked in the early morning the day she & her hubby tried to get a run in. The only portion of deck 4 available for me to run was from forward door to forward door thru the narrow passage that goes around by the mooring line hoists in the front. They had the rest roped off for refurbing. I was spitting mad. I hate treadmills with my whole heart. Seriously. I hate running on a treadmill. I had sooooo looked forward to running with the views. I went up to the gym & got my 30 mins in but I wasn't happy. Afterwards when I met back up with the hubby he said it looked like the runners had all migrated to deck 10. Wish I'd known.

Me and Frankie loved deck 4. So relaxing but we did not notice them doing maintenance which did not bother us.

Definitely the cruises are a different rhythm than the parks. Like I mentioned, that's what I've been after. I think I'm officially getting old. I don't want to go-go-go full speed anymore. And I really don't want to have to plan everywhere I'm going to be 6 months out or try to outrun the crowds in the early mornings. That's not vacation. It's another form of work. That's why I love the cruising.

I agree it is a nice change from the go, go, go mentality of the parks.

I'm not the biggest fan of the pirate night & pirate show. Maybe they should do it more than once or something. I have yet to feel that squashing up in that crowd of folks was the thing to do. I don't care what goes on, it ain't worth the herd to me.

I was able to get a descent spot with out be being elbow to elbow, thankfully.

The showers are small! On the Dream, in the bigger family oceanviews with verandahs they have the split baths that have the big round tubs. Those tubs/showers felt way more spacious than the showers on the Magic to me. Tracey & I could shower together on the Dream (don't ask...it's an innocent habit thing!) whereas I took one look in the shower once he got in and was like, "Not even trying that one, babe." I waited for him to finish.

I know they were really small me and hubby said the same thing. The room was a decent size but the shower was kind of small. Innocent habit things as well. LOL

I did notice that the classic ships seemed to have waaaaaay less going on at any given time. For instance, compare the Navigators for the classics and the new ships. The new ships have double the size of Navigator. They aren't using a bigger print. They're bigger with a lot more going on all the time. Definitely more options to choose from. I, too, had moments where I wasn't sure what to do next. Ah, well, those moments became nap times. Never can get too many naps, right?

This is another thing we enjoyed more than the parks you did not feel bad to take a small nap because it did not eat up three hours of your day with transport and going through security check at the parks. 30 minutes truly only took 30 minutes out of your day instead of three hours.

Ah, sweet! DCL BFFs!

The 1-bdrm was awesome! I thought it was way cool. Loved having the 2 baths. I saw another thread here on the Dis where people were fussing about the Magic concierge, Andreia, but we had no issues with her. She was great. We made such a fuss over that Mickey print they left as gifts that she brought us the print from last year, too. Cool beans! On the way home we discussed room layouts between the big family verandah rooms on the Dream and the 1-bdrm on the Magic. Honestly, we felt the layout was smarter, the storage was better, and we felt like we had just as much space on the Dream as we did the Magic....and that was with less than half the square footage. I didn't like that the murphy bed was in the master bedroom. Tracey & I both thought the fact that both patio doors were blocked when the beds were folded out was very inconvenient. The duvet/comforter crackhead in me loves the bedding on the Dream a bunch better, too. :cutie:

I agree, there wasn't as much to do overall as I had hoped there'd be. The 1 night Tracey & I tried to go to the adult cabaret Rockin Bar D was already full so they were directing people to Diversions where it was going to be simulcasted. That takes the fun out of seeing a "live" comedy act. We skipped it. I was really disappointed because I wanted to see a comedy act in person. It's something I've never done before.

Which cabaret act the Alfred and Seymour or the other one we caught the Alfred and Seymour and it was packed.

Did you catch the match you mate that was pretty funny. We were scared to volunteer after seeing the end of the previous activities when we seen women taking there bras off to give to the men for a fashion show.

I feel ya in having to be so careful with the sun. Yeah, my boys burn super easy. I could show you scars on Brian's shoulders where an olive-skinned friend kept the boys a few days in a row when they were little. She didn't understand that they burn in a matter of minutes. They couldn't be in the pool even 15 minutes without being thoroughly buttered. Then, the following day she thought since they were already burned and it was cloudy they'd be okay for a half hour in the pool. Burn on top of a burn = open bleeding blisters that scab then scar. :rolleyes2 Needless to say, as sweet as she was, we didn't leave the boys with her anymore. That said, we used the SPF 50+ shirts for the first time this year. It was an investment to buy them ($30+ each at Academy) but so worth it! Brian is the fairest of the 4 of us. He has long sleeves. I thought that'd be hot in the sun but he was mostly cold. I guess when the shirt is wet and the breeze hits you it's a cooling effect regardless of the sun or ambient temp. Tracey wants long sleeves now, too. Love that you only have to apply sunblock to the arms, legs, neck, & face. Also, there was a Groupon a few months back for Thinksmart Livestrong SPF 30 sunblock. I think it was 2 tubes for $14 + shipping or something which was like a 50% discount. I did a little digging around to find out what the big deal was with that sunblock over the standards at Target or Walmart. I read good stuff. It definitely lasts and works really good. When showering after using it and being in the sun for several hours we'd have to scrub ourselves down 3 times to get it all off. LOL! Annoying? Yes. But is that also a good sign? I'd say YES! The boys did get burns on their faces some but that's from repeated rubbing, not applying properly, or (in Chandler's case) just not applying it at all. :scratchin

Me and Frankie got burnt using SPF 50 waterproof. Just my thighs and chest and his stomach. The parts that never see any sun LOL. Never use the Equate brand :rotfl2:

Did those who were sensitive to the motion take anything??? I should've mentioned pre-cruise that if you needed anything I was stocked. I had meclazine and 2 boxes of the the prescription patch. None of us ever took any of it. Tracey & I are nuts. We want to have a Deadliest Catch rolling seas experience in the worst way.

I did not take anything for motion sickness on the cruise ship. Now I did get sick the second day of camping but I think that is because I had had some rice that still had broccoli particles in it was I am allergic too.

Cruise ship pools are notorious for being small. I'm curious to see what the situation is like on the Fantasy because the Dream compared to the Magic in the pool department was really terrible. I have yet to set a foot inside a Disney cruise ship pool. Especially the family pools. When they're really busy and there's all those kiddies piled in...oh you couldn't ~pay~ me to get in that water! There's no telling how much is water and how much is........ .....nevermind....... :lmao:

We only did the adult area hot tubs.

We loved the Blue Lagoon Dolphin Encounter, even though none of the people were really that friendly. We hated Nassau - what a scary place! And none of those people were friendly at all! Key West was nice, but it was just so hot. Plus Key West is kind of like every other sea town in the world. We did the Conch train tour (nice), the Aquarium (nice, but tiny), and the Shipwreck Museum (ok but they made us listen to some guy yammer on for 20+ minutes - incredibly boring!).

My husband did not want to venture to far in Nassau or stay to long. We just went there for a little over an hour and seen a couple things, took a few pics and bought a couple of things. My favorite purchase was Rum Cake from Tortuga store. Yum. We got the banana flavor and even after being in our car in the hot Florida sun for a week of camping it was still moist when we got home.

I know. It's confusing, huh? When I got off the Dream I wasn't sure how I felt. I built up the anticipation for so long then it was over so fast. After I had time to process it all it really dawned on me how much I enjoyed the experience of it all. Plus, it didn't hurt that after that cruise we went to the parks for 6 days where we really had time to understand how much more we enjoyed the cruise than the parks/resort. That's when it all came into focus. :thumbsup2

That sounds similar to what we did we did the five night cruise followed by six days of camping at Fort Wilderness and seven days of park. My husband who it took me forever to get to go on a cruise because he loves WDW so much actually surprised me when we got home and was at my Aunt's house and said he actually like the cruise much more than WDW we found it more relaxing and unlike WDW you do not need a vacation after you vacation LOL.

^^^
I'm not sure which adult cabaret act, it was the at sea night, tho. I've always wanted to go to Match Your Mate! Ugh! How was it??? As funny as the hubby is and how we live to banter I think we could seriously raise the roof. Lol!

I've been reading lots on the Royal Caribbean cruises. My MiL also brought their daily Compasses (Navigator) from last April on Oasis of the Seas. I love cruising with Mickey & the gang but wow the activities RC does. Learn to waltz or swing dance! Boxing! In a ring! I'm so doing that! I can't wait to watch a men's bellyflop contest! And the comedy show is performed like 3 times every night. Yes, please!

Has anyone ever considered cruising without doing dinners in the main dining rooms??? The family next to us on the Magic only had dinner in the main dining room the 1st night. Admittedly, they had 2 little guys that were both asleep halfway thru dinner. They weren't cranky or bad, tho. We saw them later in the cruise and told them we hoped we hadn't scared them off. The dad said Topsiders was easier for the kids. But then all the dressy clothes you have to haul onboard to dress for dinner and all....I wonder if not having that set time to work around and the time to dress up would add another layer of relaxation. I'm kinda thinking it would. Not that I wouldn't want to dress up for any dinners. Just wondering what we'd think if we relaxed ourselves on doing the main dining thing so religiously especially with other cruise lines where it's not a rotating themed restaurant. Ya know? Plus, maybe I'd overeat less frequently. Definitely food for thought, huh? If ever I was gonna justify concierge with DCL, the fact that concierge guests can order meals from the main dining restaurants to eat in their staterooms would be my reason. Time saver!

Oh, those bellyflop contests on RCI are a hoot! My niece loved doing the rock climbing wall as well. Definitely some fun activities going on there.

I have to admit, when we had the one-bedroom suite during our 7-night cruise on the Magic, we ordered dinner in three nights. It definitely was a nice change of pace not having to be somewhere and dressed a certain way. We enjoyed those evenings in t-shirt/shorts, pjs, etc. It was tempting to do the upgrade at the port again this last time, but we were forcing ourselves to stick with the inside since all our Disney cruises prior were in verandah staterooms.

We literally just got home from a night at the beach (took Mom to Joe's Stone Crabs on the ocean, and then took a late night stroll along the ocean...the water was nice and warm for wading!). Tomorrow is St. Augustine. Woot woot! (Although I am exhausted!)

What a great time we had!!! It was really fantastic!
I wanted to thank you for the FE gifts before... but coming back to Argentina was terrible!! Nothing bad but we wanted our trip to continue!!
First, because here is winter... extremely cold!! We had to switch out our summer clothes at the airport! Secondly, because of the lot of job I had to do: not only in my office but also because this is such a busy time of the school year, the kids were absent 14 days!! And now it's a hard work to do!!! And third, my DDs celebrated their birthdays and I’d to prepare both parties in the last 10 days!!! :scared1:

Our dreams came true with this travel, exceeded our expectations!!!our kids said that it was the best travel of their lives... so far!! (We’d like to do the 7-night Eastern on the Fantasy on September 2013 or 2014). They don’t stop talking about the cruise, here Disney Cruises are not so much promoted so few people know about it!! Everybody wants to see our pictures!! And my kids assure that they liked the cruise much much more than WDW.

Here is the link of some of the pictures I took:

I hope you liked our gifts, actually the story is that I had prepared small pots of "dulce de leche" (typical Argentinean jam) but officers in the customs seized them because it is categorized as food!!! You should have seen their faces when I explained them the real purpose of the 18 pots!!! But at least I could pass the Mantecol, paraguitas and Sugus, which are also from Argentina!!

I really enjoyed your FE gifts!! This thread (you people) will be always in our hearts, actually, you are present everyday: magnetics in the fridge, water bottles in the lunch boxes, candies, the perfect purse to keep the jewelry, tattoos, pictures, and so on!!! I couldn’t see you so much in the cruise because we did almost EVERYTHING of the navigator jajaja we didn’t stop a second! I'll tell you in another post!:mic:

Hope to see you in another cruise!!! If you happen to travel to Argentine do not doubt to contact me, that together with family we'll be your tourist guides!!!

I just booked my dummy cruise. If you booked with Southwest Travel you got the $200 OBC (until the end of the month). It's on the Wonder, Feb 25th. Although I think that will be too soon for us to cruise again so either next fall or Spring 14 will probably be more doable. Although as much as we miss the cruise we may end up on that one :lmao:

I think I figured out how to make it more enjoyable for me this next time. Basically, gonna tell the family "I booked the cruise, the rest is on you guys". I think that was my stress, I felt like I had to know all about everything and have every minute planned...which is just my personality. Next time it is going to be MY vacation too :thumbsup2
