May 5, 2010 Magic of Barcelona

I think the main forum has a thread about the Dooney bags. I'm weird in that I don't really care for regular Dooney bags, but like the Disney ones. I guess anything Disney works for me! Plus, there is something about it being exclusive....

We have a Dooney and Coach outlet here at the Destin outlet mall, so I am not used to paying retail either, but will probably be persuaded once I'm on the ship!

Other buying plans include cameos, gold, a rosary from the Vatican, perhaps a chandelier from Murano (Nana bought one last time we were there and it is GORGEOUS!)...not sure what for the other ports, but I'm sure I'll find stuff!

A chandelier from Murano? Like a serious full chandelier you hang from the ceiling? Do you have them ship it or do you bring it back yourself? Oh, home goods - that's my weakness! :cloud9:
I'll probably buy t-shirts and stuff for the kids, most likely. Extra 10 lbs around my midsection could be considered a souvenir....

I'm with you, Goofy Mum. But it's probably because I'm not quite ga-ga over Mickey as everyone else. (Don't throw me overboard!) Now, if Louis V had Minnie designs on their bags... it might be a different story :rotfl:

Yeah! Now you're talkin'!! Louis Vuitton Mickey's! :cool1:

I really love French soap, so we'll probably get some on Villefranche day, also a rosary from the Vatican, maybe a scarf or something in Florence....?

I don't really get the bags either-think they look quite sweet but I thought they were for little girls. My sister in law bought my daughter Alice (age 2) the cutest Minnie Mouse dress with matching handbag:cutie:

I just think they look very cheap. Like a souvenier from WDW. I can't believe what the cost is! Also the style looks dated. Oh well. Call me a snob! ;)

We always bring wine from France. VERY cheap! We're heading back to Barcelona this summer so we're not going to OD on souveniers. Probably most the stuff we'll get from the ship since it's American. My American sons really miss American candy and stuff. I miss Coast bar soap if you can believe that! I think Im the last woman on earth that still uses bar soap! :rotfl:

HA HA HA!! I JUST read your comment laydee! So funny about the 10lbs!! I'm getting a headstart on mine!

If there is anything (small) that you want us to bring you from the US, let us know and we will try to work it out. I know how that gets. When we were in North Dakota, all we wanted was Cajun spices and seasonings, and it was such a pain to get our parents to send them to us.

And I use bar soap also. We usually stock up at the French pavillion in EPCOT and try to ration it between visits. :)

Everyone- I have posted new info about the exchange rate being offered on the boat as well as how that whole thing works on the site.
http://may5med.weebly.com/general-cruise-info.html

Also, I posted the movies they are currently showing and links to menus in the past week if you haven't checked it out recently.

On the homepage, there is also a link to the map showing airport closures due to the volcano.

Hopefully, I can keep updating with even better info as we get news from the Med cruise next week!

Thanks, that's a real sweet offer but with baggage weight restrictions I wouldn't ever want to impose.
I'll have my mother send me some stuff.

Yep, the real deal, hang from the ceiling kind of thing. Yes, they ship. And will even wire it for US electrical needs. My dear mom has chandeliers from Prague and Murano and plans to buy another one while we're there. In fact, I'm fairly certain we're going to Venice for the purpose of buying a chandelier b/c she thinks the one she bought last time "isn't big enough." I may also end up with one. They are truly spectacular, and I'm building a new house so have lighting needs. Or so I tell myself!

Great job! That's wonderful info.

I also read on the Live from the Magic thread that the Guest Services desk will exchange cash or traveler's checks for Euros, but will not just charge your onboard account for the exchange. Just FYI.

American Airlines TRAVEL POLICY UPDATE: Flights today in Europe are disrupted because of the ash cloud from the latest volcanic eruption. All eastbound and westbound departures are cancelled except for Madrid, Barcelona and Rome.

At least barcelona has opened back up. I am more worried about madrid though. My flight goes through madrid, so as long as I can get there, the next leg should not be a huge problem.

Oh this is good news! Here in England we're all glued to our TV's, PC's and radios just hoping things will change. Some flights out of Scotland and Newcastle UK today. One flight from Scotland actually flew into Iceland!
We're all gonna make it, guys!! :thumbsup2

Saw an article on the AP that they think the winds are going to shift by the weekend, blowing the ash cloud away from Europe. Hopefully, that will help the situation (though apparently not so much for Canada...).

More good news, all UK airports can open from 22:00 tonight :woohoo:

I am laughing though cus I don't have a radio, is that like a wireless, pmsl :rotfl:
I got the news from BBC news 24.

Looks like we might be able to scrap plan B :goodvibes

Awesome! I sure hope the 4/24 people can make it. I know a lot of them had connections through London. We are schedule to leave for Paris on 4/24, arriving the morning of 4/25. I'm hoping by the weekend, things will be somewhat back to normal. I'm still not sure about our intra-Europe flights and we may have to move things around. We can always cut Italy short and head for Barcelona early. Just get me across the ocean and we'll figure it out!

They are saying that flights out of the UK will not be back to normal for some time as there is such a back log and also so many people stranded abroad. It is looking very good for you now though. As for the 4/24 people who have flown in to London, hopefully they will have been able to get a ferry, coach or train over to either France or Spain and then have been able to travel on to Barcelona :goodvibes

Hopefully this is the end of this mess, good luck everyone in trying to make it there for the 5th, we will drive via ferry if we have to, now hopefully not.

My best wishes for everyone trying to make this Saturdays departure
