May 5, 2010 Magic of Barcelona

On another note, about buying wine in port... I know I've seen special leak proof padded wine bags that are used for packing, does anyone know where to find these? I was thinking it might be nice to bring home a bottle of wine from Italy or France.

Also, I know there are duty free limits for carribean cruises (I think it's 1 liter per person), I'm guessing the same applys for the Med.

search for "flask" on the other cruise board...many links should pop up on how to buy them, they seem popular

In my experience, DCL does not skimp on the alcohol in those drinks either! We had a "margarita" on CC that was mostly Tequila that had been read an ad about margarita mix, but I swear the two had never met. My mom was so toasted...good times!

For carrying, there are some nice ones from WineKaddy. I'd try googling "wine carrier airline safe" or something. Perhaps a local wine boutique can help out? I haven't tried any, but they could probably point you in the right direction.

We were thinking of picking up some wine in BCN, but probably just won't have time.

Oh, and I'm totally buying one of those DCL exclusive Dooney bags. Oh yeah. That's coming home with me!

LOVE the subject change! I could use a drink after talking to that DCL flight person this morning, lol! Great idea:rotfl:

I would definitely be up for a tasting. I'm also interested in the martini or tequilla/margarita tasting :goodvibes

:goodvibes Hooray!!!! Yes, something to look forward to

I've been debating on the Dooney bag.....tempting, tempting!! I've really enjoyed my heart Dooney, and it is the same material....holds up better than you would think for fabric vs. leather.

Umbrella and fruit are a great sign! Fruity martinis are my new fav :lovestruc

On our last cruise, DW and I did the martini tasting. She volunteered to be one of the people to make their own at the end. She ended up making one, drank about 1/3 of it and decided it need more apple pucker, so she went back and filled the glass back up.

Good times! :rotfl:

Thanks for the responses! That's really helpful! I am going to try World Market near me to see if they have any ideas. I did find online these things called wine skins, which look like they work, so I'll see if I can find something similar to that. When my husband flies back from overseas on a military plane, they don't worry about the liquids rule, so we've never had to look into this before.

You're right sabremc, they really don't skimp on the drinks :goodvibes

Oh, and that Dooney bag is super cute!

Your DW sounds fun :goodvibes....do you think you two will do the martini tasting again this cruise? Hope so!

You will be fine. You do not need what they mail to you. It is mostly just luggage tags. Just do your online check-in and bring your signed paper that your print online and you will be fine.

I agree. Our cruise doc's weren't even FedEx'ed to us until the 17th. With the disruption in flights I doubt we'll get them before we depart however it won't be a problem.

About the Doony Bags...why oh why can't I find those bags attractive?? :confused3

Okay, I am game for the martini tasting as well. Might as well do both! I will keep a sharp eye on the first med cruise blogs to try and figure out when they might be so we can plan!
Yes, I believe the 1 liter rule applies to med cruises as well. That would be great if we can bring wine on board. That is good news that Disney doesn't skimp on alcohol. I've found that a few at WDW seem to be a little light, but I guess the cruise is a different animal.
So do I need to buy these wine skin things if I want to bring wine back with me or just if I open it and don't finish it?

You really don't need anything to bring it back with you. I just wanted to buy the wine skins or something similar to bring a bottle of wine back to the U.S., since I would have to pack it in my checked luggage. These are basically padded bags that seal, so if the it keeps the bottle safe, but if it does break, prevents it from ruining your clothes. I've also read that wrapping in bubble wrap or a towel and covering with a ziplock bag helps too. It was a lot easier when we could just carry on more than 3oz of liquid, lol! :rotfl:

I will also be keeping an eye on when the tastings are. I wanted to go to one last year, but we were enjoying the weather by the pool too much :goodvibes

Count me in on the martini or margarita tastings. Sounds like just what I need after back to back 6 day work weeks.

I'm with you, Goofy Mum. But it's probably because I'm not quite ga-ga over Mickey as everyone else. (Don't throw me overboard!) Now, if Louis V had Minnie designs on their bags... it might be a different story :rotfl:

I don't love the Dooney Bags either. But I would never spend that much on a purse, so I guess I am not the target audience.

But, on that subject.... what souvenirs does everyone plan on buying?

Can someone post a link to the tote bags please because I haven't got a clue what you are talking about, thanks.

I have just read todays posts on the 24th April thread, my heart goes out to those that can't get over to Barcelona in time  I really hope that some of them will find some pixie dust to get them on their boat on time :grouphug:

I LOVE Dooney, but only on clearance. So far, I've only bought Dooney purses when they are more than half off. They last for years, and I can enjoy them if I got a deal. To spring for the DCL one, would mean paying full retail....that takes some of the pleasure out of it for me. Plus, DH doesn't really like the look of them, thinks they look like "crayon drawings". He does like the idea of them being exclusive, that you can only buy them on the ship, and that they are my fav brand. I've got his blessing to buy one, but I'm still undecided. I'll have to see and hold them in person before I know if I "have" to have one!!

The purse I used the most this past winter, is of unknown brand to me, it is plum purple leather and was $40.....way cute, I really like it and it should last another winter before it starts looking worn.
