May 3rd-10th****Dis Maytees-May Magic send off

I have to admit I'm a little worried though. I officially have a bad cold today. I was trying to ignore it, but it is now full on, I might even call in sick tomorrow. Everything aches. And, I'm always one of those people who has colds FOREVER! I am deathly allergic of cough syrup, isn't that a stupid thing to be allergic to? :confused3

You'd better take care of yourself and if it means calling in do it. I missed Monday and Tuesday of this week with a sinus infection and a sore throat and I feel all achy. It's probably all this crazy wind we've been having. I went to the doctor yesterday and he gave me a z pack and I'm feeling much better already. Don't let it go too long then you'll give it to DH. Rest up and drink lots of fluids. I have good luck with tylenol sinus and it doesn't make me sleepy and everything makes me sleepy.

misslissa: DH has an allergy to Robitussin, too. I'll go you one better... This year, I found out I was allergic to dissolvable stitches. Whhhat?

My Mom's amazed we both made it to adulthood. :rotfl:

That's the normal time range, actually. Besides, besides the baggage tags, what do you need from that packet? IIRC, everything else is online.

We're planning on sending our formals to dry cleaning or pressing our first day on the boat. That way the creasing due to travel isn't important. DH is bringing his suit and his tux... I'm bringing quite a few dresses... :rotfl2: I found some sales...

Hi Brandie, yes, I guess that is the normal time range for docs, but last year we started our vacation many days before the cruise, and we almost didn't get our docs on time. I guess it was our first DCL cruise and I was surprised: we have cruised HAL several times and always got our docs at least a month before-hand. HAL docs came in a nice leather folder with all sorts of cool info and beautiful luggage tags that you could save. For HAL cruises, the docs really set the tone and we always got excited to see them. Then when we got the docs for DCL we almost laughed as it was actually nothing special at all; in fact, far from being special, it seemed "cheap." We asked, "Wait! Are we going on a premium cruise or going to a concert at the fair?!" A silly thing, but there wasn't any "document dance" with DCL like we do for HAL. ;)

I guess I am going to bring one gown and one cocktail dress. OK, at least 2 cocktail dresses. Maybe 3?!

Yes, but on HAL, you have to buy soda cards. ;)

My mom is really looking forward to her May Alaskan cruise on the Oosterdam. She's celebrating her 50th birthday (a little early) and is being laissez-faire about her planning. It's driving me batty.

I don't drink soda really, so I guess I never thought of that. :goodvibes

Hope your mom likes her Oo cruise. We have sailed Oosterdam, and found her to be a lovely ship. :)

Hey, Dawn, when you get a moment, check your cruise plans. Notice anything different? ;) Hint: Look for my name and your name.

:thumbsup2

Got any hints or tricks you care to pass on? She has a balcony, but she isn't in concierge. They have a CC meet-up for cordials/fancy schmancy coffee before dinner planned.

Thanks in advance!

Brandie, it's been a while since we were on HAL, but let me check on some things. If your mom feels like eating in the Pinnacle Grill, it did get a bit expensive, but they used to let you eat there for 1/2 price on the first night if you wanted (so $15 instead of $30). Let me check if that's still available. I'm not sure if your mom likes a good steak, but the Pinnacle Grill has GREAT steaks, as well as fish. Oddly enough, my favorite part of the Pinnacle is their amazing scalloped potatoes!

I am not a bread pudding person, but I'm told HAL's bread pudding is to die for. :)

Also, do you know if Mom has an SS or A cabin? They have a special add-on package now depending upon which level of verandah cabin you're in, which includes some stuff like all your laundry, dry cleaning, etc. as well as spa items and other treats.

I think the Oo has now moved to "As You Wish" Dining. We did not have that when we sailed her, so I'm not sure of all the nuances of that, but I think this move was to be in-line with Alaska cruises being more casual. My BIL and SIL cruised HAL to Alaska (albeit on the Volendam), but they said there were very few gowns and tuxes and it was much more casual than a typical HAL cruise.

Let me do some "catch-up" on HAL, and I will definitely get back to you. :)

Hey guys,

Thanks for the good wishes! I certainly need them... it is 2:19 am. :confused3 And, I am up. I slept clear from after dinner until now... I love when your schedule gets so messed up like that.

Fizzgig: That is pretty funny about the stitches! Aren't our bodies amazing! LOL... I always laugh at how silly my allergies are. (Not to mention both milk and soy, but not at all at the same level, I eat both all the time with just a little tummy ache... what I call a milk "hangover")

I'm taking this stuff called Cold FX, which is appearantly "amazing" and pricey, but we'll see how it goes. :wizard:

About the documents, I know exactly what you are talking about. At work, I see every single type of document. And actually, whenever I see DCL, I am happy to see that they still have the paper ones (HAL as well!). They are both just a few of the cruiselines that actually give out any at all.

I recently had a couple (actually 3 couples) who did an Alaskan cruise with Princess and they booked both the air and cruise together through them. All they got for their trip was a printout of two single (81/2 x 11) pages! :scared1: I couldn't believe it. I have to admit, all of the e-ticketing makes me a little nervous, like showing up at the airport for a cruise with only 2 peices of paper after spending upwards of $10000 per couple.

So actually, when I saw DCL docs for the first time... my thoughts were "whew... at least you get something!". :woohoo:

I was so excited to see my ticker this morning! We actually leave here on the 30th, and I'm pretty excited about our stay in Myrtle Beach, as well. It used to be one of my favorite vacation spots, and I haven't been there in something like 15 years! DH has been there, too before meeting me, so it'll be fun to visit together.

Anyway, I have another idea for you guys to get the party started. We were planning to have dinner at Grill on Friday night before the cruise and thought it might be fun to get a group of the DISers who will be in town the night before to join us. :woohoo: I contacted Grills, and while they don't take reservations on Friday night, they said we could call one hour before arriving and get our name on the list at that time. Anyone interested? :confused3

Hope you're feeling better Melissa. I've never tried Cold FX, but I swear by Airborne. Only thing is, you really need to start taking it as soon as you think you're getting sick. It really lessens the severity and duration of a cold. :thumbsup2

Can you believe that we don't have Airborne in Canada? I think Cold FX is the same idea. :wizard:

And yes, I was counting today too... for us, it is technically 28 days!!!!!!!

Brandie,

Did you get switched to early dining and are sitting with Dawn? If so congrats!!!

We are STILL waiting. I was under the impression that medical needs are generally granted, but this is not happening for us.

As our sail date gets closer and closer Lisa is getting more and more anxious about meal times.

I am sure it will work out, but I wish we didn't have to go through the anxious waiting stage.

Linda

No such luck! I just figured out a way to swap out my hubby for Dawn for High Tea. So I guess I'll see you in the line at the port to swap your dining times, too?

I sent in our medical forms last night.

Where is Grills? Is it near the airport or near the port? Is that the whole name just Grills? I don't know if this will be possible for us. We're not renting a car and just relying on the hotel shuttle to get us back and forth to the airport.

Thanks for the info about airborne I bought some but then didn't know if it would work after all that stuff on the news about it just being vitamins.

Oh yeah, forgot that many of you arriving the night before will be staying by MCO. Grills is near the port (we're staying at the Country Inns & Suites), so I guess this will only work for those of you doing that.

The menu is on the website, and the restaurant is recommended in Passporters and on this board. If anyone's staying in Cape Canaveral the night before and wants to meet up, let me know, and I'll take care of the advanced calling.

I am a major proponent of Airborne!! I was so sorry to hear about the troubles they've had recently, because the product has really been effective for me. It is a blend of vitamins, minerals and herbs designed to strengthen your immune system. I think the company got in trouble for exaggerating claims, which they didn't need to do, because it really works well! :thumbsup2

Hello all, my family will be on this cruise as well. I am excited for my DS who is 6 with all the boys listed, but haven't seen much in the way of playmates for my DD age 4! I hope she will find a great friend as she is a bit more reserved. I have been reading the thread and am getting so excited! We are heading to Florida on or around May 1 so it is right around the corner! I am working on my list of things left to get - the DIS boards rock! Has anyone received their documents yet? I keep checking the reservation online and I know they have made it easier since you can do so much online but I am sure I would feel better with some documents in my hot little hands!!!!! Thanks for any info you can provide!!!

Hello!!!!!!

Welcome to our thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Documents should be coming about mid April, but we're all keeping each other updated. I don't think anyone has gotten theirs yet. I think Disney drops them into the mail 21 days prior to the trip. So, depending on where you live, usually is reflected in the delivery time.
