Karen, love your shirts!

Linda, you know, I forgot about the Margarita tasting! That is more appealing to us than the Martini tasting, maybe we'll see you there!

Bobbi, I am not sure when the beer tasting will be? We have Palo brunch Monday as well ... I think I booked the last time slot (11:30?) I should really check. Maybe I should borrow someone's clipboard and organizer. :goodvibes

Port Canaveral ramps up security
Mar 31, 2008

Port Canaveral, the second busiest in Florida, is beefing up security. New measures will be in place according to a Transportation and Security Authority announcement made on Sunday. The increased coverage follows similar action taken at Jacksonville's port.

According to Lee Kair, the TSA security director at Orlando airport, the presence of specialists will be random. "One day we might have on-site an expert on fraudulent documents and another expert on behavior. The next, we might have none or we might have 10 other experts. The idea is to keep things random and unpredictable."

While some of the security experts will be obvious, others will be difficult to spot. Kair stated "You want part of the team to be visible as a deterrent factor, but we will have people working behind the scenes as well."

This is part of the TSA's "visible intermodal prevention" program which was put into place following the 2004 Madrid train bombing. Waterways were recently added as a travel venue

On Sunday, bomb sniffing dogs, the U.S. Coast Guard, Federal Air Marshals, U.S. Customs, the U.S. Border Patrol, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Brevard County Sheriff's Office were present at the port.

Passengers expressed surprise that this level of security wasn't already in place. Sari Koshetz, a TSA spokeswoman stated that while they are the primary providers of passenger and bag screening at airports, their role at ports is as a "support agency."

Disney, Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Lines all sail from Port Canaveral.

You are lucky that you got that brunch spot! I'm hoping that we will be able to get a Palo brunch. How likely do you think it is that we'll be able to get one on boarding day?

Cute shirts!

I have actually come to a big decision today. With everything going on, and it being our first cruise, I have officially decided not to go with doing the Fish Extenders. As fun as it looks, I think it'll just add plain too much to my list of things to do! :wizard: I can't wait to see yours in the halls though ;)

I agree with you I feel the fish extender gift exchange will just add too much to us as well. I'm trying to keep my packing list and shopping list simple. Sorry my fellow ship mates, I'm honestly not trying to be a bah humbug and I'm not knocking anyone who wants to do that, I'm just trying to keep this trip and packing as simple as I can. We don't have a ton of luggage a friend gave me a hand me down 2 piece luggage and another friend is letting me borrow a small 3 piece luggage set and I've already spent what I feel is a small fortune just getting what everyone needs.

However, I'm so excited!!

I'm going to get the maker of bobbi565's fish extender to make me what I've dubbed a 'fish finder'. It doesn't have any pockets so it's more for decoration like a wall hanging to help you 'find' your room so my brain clicked and I've named it a fish finder. It helps you find your fish. She posted a really cute one yesterday with pirates on ebay as I keep going back and looking at them.

I knew I wouldn't get a use out of the pockets and I didn't want to participate in the gift exchange. But I liked the idea of a fish extender as a keepsake and they are so cute and fun so I started thinking about one without pockets. I really am a huge fan of embroidery as well.

So I proposed to her the idea of making one without the pockets but with the embroidery spaced out like a 4 pocket one. She said she liked the idea of a room finder and I told her my idea and the naming of it a fish finder. And told her she could keep my idea of a fish extender without pockets and the name fish finder.

So I'm making my 3 guys a pirate and me a princess. I wanted to be a pink pirate as I'm definitely not a princess type, I'm no diva by any means more tomboyish if anything. I'm a very down to earth person. My kids insisted on me being a princess. My youngest said mom the pirates always take the princess with them and there aren't girl pirates.

We were going to make door magnets but have also read of those getting stolen in areas where there is heavy foot traffic and I still don't know where our room is. By the time we find out there may not be a lot of time to make door magnets. I paid for it this morning I can't wait to get it in the mail.

Looks like no one is doing the fish extenders. That is OK it will give me one less thing to worry about:lovestruc

OOOO just noticed i have turned into a Mouseketeer

Is that what is meant by the tag fairy?
Doesn't take much to make me happy :cool1:
Lyn

Karen, love the tee shirts!

Hey, Jodie! I'll see you at Palo. Our brunch is at 11:30 as well! :thumbsup2

Heather, there were six families on the roster who had said "Yes" to Fish Extenders. With captured opting out, that leaves five of use, which still seems like fun to me! And with so few of us participating, it won't be that much of a hassle. At any rate, everyone be sure to pm CrusinEars ASAP if you're participating. :)

oh OK that will be fun, I will do it then. Maybe we should all pick a day between Monday and Friday to do it so it will be spread out:)

We have decided not to do the fish extender thing as well. While it sounds like great fun, I am also doing some special things for our crowd and it will just be too much to add even more special things.

I do hope that everyone who decides to participate has a great time with it.

I got my room assignment!!!

A little later this afternoon I logged into Disneycruise.com and instead of it saying guarantee it now has a number!!! I did a double take. I was like is that a number?

:tinker: Best thing I was upgraded from a category 12 to a category 10 with a split bath. :pixiedust:

No window however. We'll be on deck 2 under the rocking bar d. Guess I'd better buy DH a fan afterall. :lmao:

Thanks Bobbi, but do we know if he will be on for us? If so that would be very nice! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the welcome Lyn! :flower3:

:hippie:

Hey TiggStitch!

I just read on another threat that Brent is back on the Magic as CD and will be until at least June 1. (Love the accent!)

Hi Gang:

I haven't posted here for a while but wanted to check in.

I finally got around to doing our on-line check-in last night and was surprised to see that we got upgraded from a cat. 6 to a cat. 4. Although my gut reaction is to be excited about an upgrade, I'm a little bit worried that being on deck 8 will be noisy. I'm hoping the fact that we are just a few doors down from the Roy suite means that it won't be too bad. Anyone have experiences to share?

In looking at the list of cruisers a few pages back, it seems that there are several of us traveling with young kids. We have a DS3 and DD6. Are people interested in introducing the kids - maybe the first night at the club?

Not long now. . . .

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wizard: I'm so excited for you!!!!!!!!!! :cheer2: Did you go over to wdwinfo dot com and check it out under "Staterooms"? That's the first thing I did when I got my room number, they have lots of reviews of specific numbers.

Hi Dan,

We are having a meet up for all of us (including me, without kids) on the first day at the Promenade Lounge at 3 pm. The kids could probably meet there. Also, you should also go over to wdwinfo dot com and see if they have any reviews of your specific stateroom. It is really neat to see what other people have to say when they have also stayed in your room.

I also have a quick question for you ladies!

I just found a bag that I am considering buying, I hid it at work... it is a regular tote but half of it is a huge cooler pocket. I'm wondering what you guys use for excursions and so on? I generally just carry a gigantic purse and put everything in it... but I'm thinking this pocket will be good for extra snacks and drinks! What do you usually do?

Also, I'm happy to announce that I booked the Dolphin Adventure Swim with Dolphin Discovery at Chankanaab at 1 pm! And, it is all confirmed!~ :wizard:

Heather

I'd be fine with having a specific day, but I think it was Karen that said she preferred to just play it by ear. I'll go with whatever majority rules. :thumbsup2

Hey, captured, we're down the hall in 2568, and just a few doors away from Lyn! :wave2:

Dan, I think the kids would probably do better getting to know each other at the meet. I know when my DS gets into the OC, he's pretty much off like a lightning bolt! I think he might be too distracted for introductions there. :yay:

Melissa, that tote sounds awesome! See you at Chankanaab. :cool2:

Well about the bag it sounds really really cool. :goodvibes

I do know that you're not 'supposed' to bring food from off the ship. If you buy something on an excursion and you want to bring it back it can't be opened either. I think? But I know I have read that others have gotten away with it. I think if you like the bag and it will fit your needs and hold your stuff then get it. Just think of a day trip you might take around where you live like a amusement park and if that bag would work there then it would probably work anywhere.

Also, Congrats about the Dolphin adventure swim!!! :cool1:

We're just doing the Dolphin Discovery. I'm too chicken to book on my own.

Congrats on the upgrade. :thumbsup2

did you try looking here: http://allearsnet.com/reviewpost/showcat.php?cat=75

or here this is the one misslissa is referring to:
http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/cruise-new/roomlist.cfm

Or maybe posting out in the main forum. Sorry first time cruiser here that's all the help I've got.

I did, I did!!! Well the first thing I did was try to absorb the number and what I was seeing and then started jumping up and down and screaming. :tigger: Then I couldn't flip through my passporter fast enough and then realized where we were so jumped on there and read a review. Only feedback they had was that it was noisy.

Hey, captured, we're down the hall in 2568, and just a few doors away from Lyn! :wave2:

Oh my gosh it's a small world after all. We are on the same hall!!! We're in 2547. Okay I did not intend to get that song stuck in my head!!!! Sorry if I did that to anyone else. :lmao: And I did not mean to rhyme. We'll have to keep a watch on each other's fish extender/fish finder. ::cop: :magnify:

I'm just so excited for all of us. What a huge opportunity to get to go on a Disney Cruise. I'm such a dork I almost cry everytime I think about it. This is a dream come true for me! If you see a woman crying for no apparent reason it's probably me, and it's all good! Remember happy tears! :lmao:

Tomorrow will be our 30 day mark!!! :yay:

I get nervous and excited everytime I think about it. I keep telling my DH can't we just go NOW??? We could be beach bums and just watch the ships going back and forth until it's our turn to get on. :boat:

Whatever works will be fine with me. If there's less than 7 families, then assigning everyone a day would be fine. I was just trying to keep it simple so that people would find it easier to participate. There are other meet groups that have had over 100 participants :scared:. So I was worried about trying to set up a schedule. :rotfl:

I bought some little trinket things from Oriental Trading Co. and had no clue how many to plan for, so I played it safe and ordered 4 dozen. :rotfl2: I guess I'll have lots left over to save for kids parties and church and stuff. I've seen lots of cute stuff at the Dollar tree, too, so I'll probabaly stop in there in the next couple of weeks, too.

We might wait another 2 weeks and see if a few more families decide to join in. Just a thought!

Can anyone tell me what page our roster is on? Thanks!

Karen :cloud9:

DH and I have never done anything like this. Our parents didn't travel much (or at all in his case!) when we were young, so we try to do as much as we can.

I have only been to the ocean once, never SEEN a cruise ship, and Florida is as far south as we have been. So, we are beyond excited.

Everytime we go onto You Tube, which is quite frequent, and watch videos of the DCL... I start bawling. When I see people boarding, hearing the horn, anything... I lose it.

Everytime Fantasmic starts at MGM, I start to cry. I am emotional. :confused3

Now that I am a TA, I get that way with my clients. On my last trip, I saw one of my clients at WDW and started crying... Of course, she didn't see me! :wizard: But, I felt so honored that I helped her get there. DH laughs at how Mickey pays me so that I can give my money back and go on trips. :rotfl:

Anyway, I'll join you with my own teary eyes!
