May 28, 2011 - 11 Night Mediterranean Sailing from Barcelona

:welcome:
We are on this Med cruise as well as our son & his family. They have a 6 yo and an 18 mo. We were also on the Baltic cruise last summer on DCL.
They put their baby in the nursery ( Flounders) on the ship while we were in Russia. You certainly can do that, however ,Rome is an hour away, so you may want to consider that.
I will say that Flounders' staff is wonderful !! I believe you pay $6/ hour and you need to make reservations . Our dil never had a problem getting her son in. :flower3:

Thanks so much for the information! I guess I was worried that the staff wouldn't let us be far away. I'm totally fine with the day break from them because I KNOW they will be well taken care of and having much for fun then looking at "old" buildings in Rome :).
Can't wait!:cool1::yay:

If your 3 year old is potty trained then you can drop her off with her older sister and it doesn't cost anything. If she isn't potty trained then you will have to pay the $6 per hour for flounder's reef.

I still have 2 seats left for Rome, we will be going to Vatican City first (Museum, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica) and then over to the Coliseum, Pantheon, Roman Forum and Trevi Fountain. You are more than welcome to join us.

Cruisers,

Please review the website and see if I have everything correct. I think I have everyone's information updated on who wants to participate in the FE, and so far who want's to join us for brunch.

I'm sorry that I haven't kept it up lately.

If you want me to include a picture on the website please email it to me at cindy_perrier@yahoo.com.

I am in the process of booking a tour through Uphotomalta - Malta's most unique photography tour --------- link is on the website (I can't post links yet) (Thanks to Cindy for the link!!)
They said that they can accomadate our ship arrival and start the tour at 9:00. There are three openings - please let me know if you are interested in joining us.

If anyone on this cruise is military, you have 4 days left to call and cancel without penalty and rebook at a cheaper rate.

I just canceled my Cat 9A and rebooked a 5C and got a refund of $1200. We went from large porthole to balcony.

The two available categories are 5C and 9D. Family of 4, for 9D is a little more than $4100, and the Cat 5C is a little more than $4600.

Wow! That's great for you! Congrats!!! :goodvibes

I am so happy to finally find this board! I will be on this cruise with my DH and son (14) and daughter (11). We are in cabin 6532. This is our 4th Disney Cruise. My main question at this point is about transportation in Barcelona. What is the best way to get a family of 4 and all our luggage to our hotel and then to the port?
I guess we also want to know what people think are worthwhile things to see in Barcelona. We are coming from Canada and will have 2 days before and 2 days afterward.
See you all VERY soon!:goodvibes

Here is a list of things that we would like to TRY and fit in while in Barcelona and also some info on metro passes. I can't post links yet, but if you are interested in any of these things, i can PM you the link, just let me know.

Gaudi Buildings
Metro 10 euro ish 2 day pass
Metro Map
Cable Car from port
Cable car/funicular to castle
Amusement Park
The Magic Fountain Show
La Boqueria Market
Gaudi Park

What district is your hotel in?

Rachelle

Thanks for the list!!! I have done a little research, but the main push is on now that we are getting close!!

Our hotel is just off the north end of Las Ramblas. I think we can take a train from the airport to Placa de Catalunya, but I am unsure what the best way is to get from there to the port. Anyone have any ideas?!

Cindy,

Where did you find out about the military rates? I can't find any info on it. My husband is active duty so we would be very interested. I would be excited if we could just move up in room category. Thanks.

Go to:

http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/reservations/booking

in the bottom left corner for special offers type in MTO. There are only a couple categories that are available. I think you only have until Sunday to do this. I don't know if they are open on the weekends.

I did two staterooms, (1 Adult, 2 children and 1 adult and 2 children) in Cat 5C GTY and the total was $7333.46, that does not include transportation and insurance.

Hello! My name is Karen and I am so excited to be sailing with all of you in May! It's just my mom Diane and I and we can't wait! This will be my 8th Disney cruise and my first trip to Europe. I've so enjoyed reading everyone's posts and look forward to meeting you all onboard the beautiful Disney Magic. Just 3 months to go. Woot Woot!

Depending how far you are from Columbus Circle, they have a "blue bus" that will take you the approximate 2 km to the ship. (www) barcelona-tourist-guide.com/en/transport/barcelona-cruise-port (.html) sorry i still can't post links! LOL

I forgot to add to my list La Familia Cathedral. Absolutely beautiful.

Hey everyone,

We are trying to figure out what shore excursions to take on the cruise and I was just wondering what other people were thinking for Corsica. Has any one been there before? We would have no problem wandering around on our own but since we are there on a Sunday I don't think many things will be open. Just thought I'd pick some other brains.

Thanks,
Rachel

We will probably go to the beach. There is one near the ship. But I heard there is a really nice beach with restrooms, bar chairs and umbrellas further down that you can take the public bus to. You might check over at cruisecritic.com boards. Look under Ports of Call , Europe, then Corsica.
Right now we are signed up for the DCL tour Sweet Corsica. You go to a bee farm (honey) , a vineyard , and a place where they make candy (nougat).
I have read good reviews from DCL 2010 Med cruisers.

We just went to the beach last year, which is what we are planning to do again this year.

I still have 6 seats available for the Brunch on 3 June (if I'm able to get the reservation).

If anyone is interested in joining us (DopeyFan1966, htmlkid, nhmomofson) please PM me or email me your reservation number and I will add you to the brunch.

Cindy

I called my travel agent and asked about the military rates. We are in the process of changing my reservation from an inside stateroom 10b to 9c ocean view. 9c is all that is left at the military rate. The downside is that the rooms are GTY and we probably will not be in connecting rooms.

Cindy, if we can get our reservation successfully changed, I will pm you our reservation number for the brunch. Please don't wait for us though. If we miss out on the brunch, we will meet up with the group at Promenade Lounge.

That's great that you were able to change your rooms for the better price. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you will be able to get connecting rooms. If you don't, I hope your savings is worth not being in the connecting rooms.

I will be making the reservations tomorrow and Monday, and the brunch room is not full yet so as soon as you get your new number let me know and I will add the two of you to the reservation.

Looking forward to meeting you and everyone else. I can't believe that we only have 3 months until our cruise......:banana::banana::banana:

As soon as we are able to book our excursions (meaning, in 12 hours' time!! )we will try to get the "Les Calanches" DCL excursion for Corsica. I have read quite a few good things about it, and I don't mind the fact that it seems to be a very relaxing excursion with little walking for a change :rolleyes1.

I was in Corsica once as a little kid with my dad, he had a car and I remember lots of driving along very scenic and beautiful roads in the Corsican countryside, so I'm looking forward to seeing those views again (or whatever is left ofthem several decades later :rotfl2:).

By the way, good luck to all you other Silver CC members out there who will be able to book tonight - I hope everyone gets everything they are looking for! :cheer2:
