May 28, 2011 - 11 Night Mediterranean Sailing from Barcelona

I will get you the info later today. We are taking the train to Cinque Terre. It's a 30 min walk from the ship OR you can take a taxi to the train station.

The boats sounded like fun, and I've heard the scenery around the coastline is beautiful. We may change our mind and do the boats.
We'll probably have to wait until that day . If the water is rough the boats won't run. So it would be good to have a back up plan.:rolleyes1

Anyway, I'll research this and get back to you with the info !:surfweb:

Thank you! There is an interesting thread on the subject on the main cruise forum currently as well, although unfortunately nobody has had much to say about the boats yet:

Cinque Terre on your own

If anyone is interested in taking a half day private tour to Monreale in Palermo, this is the description of the tour I am booking:

This excursion is a must for anyone who travels to Palermo. Don't miss one of the most superb churches in the world. The story begins in 1174 when King William claimed that the Virgin revealed to him in a dream the location of a great treasure... We will drive to the hill town of Monreale, just outside Palermo, and visit the famous twelfth century Cathedral. Founded by the Norman King William II, this monumental church puts together the best efforts of Norman, Byzantine and Arab artists and architects. The interior walls are decorated with 6,340 square meters (almost 70,000 square feet) of gold and polychrome mosaics! Inside the adjacent Benedictine Abbey, we will visit the Cloister, which reflects the Sicilian Norman kings' tendency towards Arab culture.
At the nearby belvedere, the view overlooking Palermo is truly spectacular.
Up to 6 people is Euro 280 for a half day tour including a van, driver and licensed guide. From 6 to 13 people Euro 360 for a half day tour.

Let me know if anyone is interested. We already have 4 people (and maybe 2 more). If we can fill the van with 13 people, it will only be 27.69 euro per person, which is pretty good. Admission fees are not included.

My husband I will be joining you guys on this cruise to celebrate my 40th bday. I am so excited!! We have late seating and a cat 9 guarantee cabin. This is my third DCL cruise and my husband's second. I am working on scheduling some private tours if people are interested in joining us. I already have on scheduled for Naples (details will come soon) and I am looking for others in Rome, Florence and Villefranche. Are there any spaces available in any of these destinations? I look forward to catching up with everyone here and on board the Magic

Sorry, I don't know how to do it. I just know that after we get off the tender boat we can get on another boat right at the same spot to go over to Cinque Terra and it doesn't cost that much.

A lot of people last year did the same thing.

Cindy

Hello, this is what I found on the internet for Cinque Terre. Hope it helps.

navigazionegolfodeipoeti.it (I don't have enough posts, to post the actual link, but hopefully you can find it from what I can post!) Boat from LeSpezia to Cirre Terre
For the line Cinque Terre you can choose between two possibilities:
• Full-Day Excursion with at pleasure stop in the towns of Cinque Terre (not in Corniglia) with other stop in Portovenere for the ones coming from La Spezia or Lerici.
In that case the price of the ticket is between Euro 11,00 and Euro 22,00 per person.
• Half-Day Excursion with one-hour stop in the Cinque Terre (Vernazza or Monterosso) and return to Portovenere or La Spezia/Lerici in the late afternoon.
The price of this ticket is between Euro 12,00 and Euro 16,00 per person.

For the Portofino line you can do the same thing: you can decide to leave from La Spezia, Levanto, Portovenere, Lerici or one of the Cinque Terre (not in Corniglia). Also in that case there are departures from Deiva marina but only in summer season.
The costs are Euro 25,00 (Return Ticket from La Spezia, Lerici or Portovenere), Euro 20,00 (Return Ticket from Cinque Terre), Euro 18,00 (Return Ticket from Levanto or Bonassola) or Euro 16,00 (Return Ticket from Deiva Marina or Moneglia

As this is our first trip to Europe, I was wondering if anyone had any tips on exchanging money once in Barcelona. Also, what if I don't bring enough cash, will banks cash a check, or how would I get more? We are spending 4 days in Barcelona before boarding and want to make sure we are not stuck with no money!! thanks for any help.

Rachelle

Rachelle,

If you look at my website, one of the tabs lists information about check cashing on the boat. Most of Europe does not use checks anymore. I've been over here for 2 years and I've never seen a check. Everyone uses bank cards and the internet.

I don't remember Disney's rules, but they are on my website. You should be able to use your ATM card anywhere, just make sure you bank knows that you will be using it in Europe so they don't block it.

If anyone is interested in doing the half-day Palermo private tour that I posted about, please let me know. We have six people already, but can accommodate up to 13. Thanks!

Karen, My husband and I would like to participate in your Palermo tour. I think that your other ones are filled, am I correct? Please let me know. Thanks, Kim

Hi Kimberley,
I just sent you a PM regarding our private tours.
We have 2 spaces left on the Naples tour. Rome is full and we only have 1 spot for LaSpezia.

Welcome aboard!

Shirley

Thanks, Shirley.
Does anyone have any space on a private tour in Villefranche? We would like to go to Monte Carlo, Monaco and Eze. Please let me know.

Hi Kim! I just sent your a private message.

Hello All!
I found this group when doing some research on Med cruises. We will be joining you as well and are sooooo excited. It is our first Med cruise, and third Disnay Cruise. We wanted to do one last large vacation before my daughter starts school.
It will be my husband, Randy, daughters K(4) and A (3 at time of cruise).
We would be interested in a tour in Rome if anyone starts anything new. Also, is anyone planning on any diving excursions? DH and I are certified divers. I'm just starting out looking at things to do, so I am open to any options.
Also, does anyone know if they will let us "dump" our kids in Kid's club while we spend the day away in Rome? I'm not overly interested in carting two little ones around on a whirl-wind tour if you know what I mean!
I also wanted to add - thanks DopeyFan1966 your website is awesome!! So helpful - I've been on it all day.

:welcome:
We are on this Med cruise as well as our son & his family. They have a 6 yo and an 18 mo. We were also on the Baltic cruise last summer on DCL.
They put their baby in the nursery ( Flounders) on the ship while we were in Russia. You certainly can do that, however ,Rome is an hour away, so you may want to consider that.
I will say that Flounders' staff is wonderful !! I believe you pay $6/ hour and you need to make reservations . Our dil never had a problem getting her son in. :flower3:

I am so happy to finally find this board! I will be on this cruise with my DH and son (14) and daughter (11). We are in cabin 6532. This is our 4th Disney Cruise. My main question at this point is about transportation in Barcelona. What is the best way to get a family of 4 and all our luggage to our hotel and then to the port?
I guess we also want to know what people think are worthwhile things to see in Barcelona. We are coming from Canada and will have 2 days before and 2 days afterward.
See you all VERY soon!:goodvibes
