I found this forum while trying to find dining info for this cruise. My list of questions is growing, so I'm so glad to have found you all! We are a military family living in Germany, and this is our first cruise. We have 2 boys who are 7 and 2. My husband gets home from a 4 month deployment soon, and this cruise is our reward! We are so excited!

I'm going to do some more searching before asking my questions, but I wanted to introduce myself first!

When I was on the Gem in 2007, the Euro was $1.44, and today it's about $1.29. Bad for them, but so good for us Yankees! Woohoo!

I saw earlier this morning it was $1.27 (dollar per euro)! That's the best it's been in years!
Now it'll be even easier to go shopping while on the cruise.

I will try to be happy for you guys--but it DOES ruin my chance to shop for bargains. Some of us are paying in Euros

Seriously though I am very happy for those of you helped by this (and relieved that I paid for the cruise when the Euro was strong). In less than 3 weeks we will all be on board!

Yeah the euro rate might be great for you lot but us poor british who have to convert pounds to euros are suffering It plummeting by the hour here as is the pound to dollar rate...Oh well hopefully once we get our national election and new prime minister sorted out tomorrow the rate might recover a bit? I can but hope

Hello Cruisers!

Just returned from our cruise 4/24-5/5. It was wonderful!!!

A note though for anyone with the Pompei/Amalfi excursion.

This was a fantastic excursion, however, if you are on it be sure to sit on the right side of the bus. The right side enjoys the beautiful sea views, while the left views mainly consist of a rock wall and other tour busses.

Hope your cruise is as magical as ours was!

This trip will be a great way to celebrate the end of your husband's deployment! I'm traveling with my son Caleb (age 6) but my husband can't join us because of a work trip he has to take. We are Americans living in Athens, Greece. Welcome to the board!

PS Have you all seen the terrible riots and protest that are going on here in Athens? Greece is one of the reasons the Euro is tanking. I promise it's not my fault to those of you who are not happy about it.

We are thankful that we live in the suburbs away from where the demonstrations are being held.
I'm so sorry for the three bank workers that were killed by the mob. What a tragedy! Today was a big funeral for them and it was on TV.
Greece is still a beautiful country with many wonderful people. I feel bad that the world is seeing a group of angry, violent people as a representation of this country. I know so many terrific Greeks. From the kind bus drivers that take Caleb to and from school, to the nice fruit and vegetable vendors I see every Friday at the open market, to the wonderful people I've met at church. Don't let this keep you from Greece if you are planning to visit.
It is already hot here. I have the AC going. I bet Malta and Tunis will be sizzlin by the time we're there.
Jocjarmom- I saw a very amazing video on Youtube of your son and his broken arm. It was touching. My husband liked it too. It just popped up one day on Youtube and I said I recognize the name Jocjarmom from the disboard. Small world.

Glad to hear you are OK, Jennifer! Greece is on our list of places we want to visit. DD really wants to go there after seeing the movies Mama Mia and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 1 and 2. One day! It is hot in Southeast Houston too. Supposed to get in the 90's with increasing humidity. Time to start using the pool!
Your piano playing was simply amazing! Hope you will consider entertaining us in the club that has the piano - its either Sessions or Diversions.

Thanks for the update Dance! I like this show schedule much better as it looks like the variety entertainment will be on those longer port days (Rome and Florence) and the shows will be on the shorter ports of call. I do suspect they wil premiere the movie Prince of Persia on the 3rd night since it comes out May 28th. Just my guess though.
Keep me posted about the wine tasting. I have a long spa appointment booked on June 4th starting at 2:30pm. If the wine tasting is at 1pm, will be OK. Otherwise, I may have to pass. Doubt that I could find another sea day spa appointment time in the spa villas.
