May 26, 2010--5/26/2010 10 Night Mediterranean

Hi everyone, I already have 6 adults signed up for the 2nd Palo brunch list. As soon as I get 6 more adults interested in participating, I will send it in. For all of you interested in doing the Private palo brunch, I will need from you ASAP the following: your first and last names and your reservation #. You can either PM me with the info or email me directly at: tainapo@comcast.net
You can only sign up one time so if you already emailed me your info, its already sent in with the first list. Or I emailed you to let you know you are on the 2nd list. Remember, nothing is guarenteed and it is possible that we will get neither dates for the private brunch, or we could get both dates! The sooner I can send in this second list, the better. DCL processes these requests by date of when they are received. But they will only let me know about 25-30 days prior to sailing if we got it or not. So its important that if you really, really want to do the brunch, that you also try to book it when your booking window opens up. If you get the private brunch, DCL will cancel out your other brunch (they will only let you have one). Hope this makes sense! Here is the other info that is good to know:

Here's how the private brunch works: the room holds up to 14 people in a private dining area. The last time we did it, our time was around 10am. I think they only book one group per brunch. This is an adults only dining and there is a dress code (no shorts). Capris are fine but men will need to wear slacks and nice shirt (no tie required for brunch). Cost is $15 pp plus tip.

As soon as I get 12-14 people, I will send the info in. I will also start a waitlist in case we have any drop outs. I am going to request the 2nd sea day (June 4th) as the first choice (by then we will know each other from the Dismeets and sharing excursions - we'll be old friends by then! ) The 2nd choice will be the 1st sea day (May 27th). For the 2nd list, I will be putting May 27th as first choice.
Just some things to consider: there will also be a character brunch on this cruise (usually offered on 3 different sea days on cruises of 7 days or longer).
DCL could not tell me which day the third day might be. If you are 1st dining, your character breakfast will be early, but if you are 2nd dining, it may conflict with the Palo brunch time if you have kids that want to go to the character breakfast. Of course, if your kids are older, they could go on their own, or you could have one spouse go to the character breakfast and the other to Palo if there is a conflict. However, you will not know your dining rotation until you board the ship. Our last brunch, several of the husbands did not come (they didn't want to dress up!, No, really!)

Keep in mind that if we get the Private palo brunch, if you have made another Palo brunch reservation, that other reservation will cancel out. DCL will contact me 25-30 days prior to sail date. Their rule is that you can only have one Palo brunch, one high tea and one dinner per cruise pre-booked. Of course you can always try for a second one after you board.

In addition the Palo's brunches, will there be any other opportunity to meet? Has somebody set up a Meet & Greet?

I want to do a meet and greet in the promenade lounge on the first day around 2-4 so people can stop by and say hi and get their lanyards. That sound ok as the first one?

I also would like to get a group picture, they did it for our last group but not sure how i go about it.It would have to be first or last sea day probably since we have so many port days.

I was trying to figure out how to do dis board navigators with meeting times and everyones special days but I dont know as its kind of time consuming and then trying to print them out.Myabe thats something I need hubby to do hmmmmmmmm LOL

When everyone knows there cabin that will be great too because I can make the sheet of where everyones at.

I believe Sinnika is working on at least on DisMeet. Is that right Taina??

Yes, I thought it would be fun to meet the first sea day. I am also working on the 2nd list for the Palo brunch and there could possibly be a group of us dining that morning. Won't know for sure until about 30 days out. Since you need to dress for brunch, the am would not be good for doing a group photo if everyone wants to do wear their t-shirts. Maybe an afternoon Dismeet? Around 2pm? If the weather is good and warm, we could plan a meet up by the Mickey pool on Deck 9 or better yet, the secret deck on 7 aft. :goodvibes
Heather, thanks for offering to make the lanyards and planning a sail day meet for those that stay on board. We can start recognizing each other right away! :dance3:

We ordered our tshirts but im not sure who else is getting them so we could just wear anything for the pic but that time sounds good. Im up for whenever, just thought it a nice thing to do and I dont want people pressured into buying shirts so just anything ( no birthday suits) would be fine.
Do you know how to get a photographer? I think all we have to do is ask and give them time and place? Anyone know?

Hi y'all. We too will join you on may 26: me,DH, DD (age 3 and 5, turning 6 in May). I stumble onto this forum today and read thru 29 pages of posts :) and wow! what a plethora of information and wow! do I feel soooo behind in planning. Just finish planning our spring break trip. This is my first time posting on a travel forum so I'm a very new newbie. Be patient with the many questions I will probably post. We weren't sure at first if we were going to go with our daughters being so young but when DCL had the kids cruise free,we jumped on board and found great airfares thru Iberia airline, BA partners (580/person Houston-Madrid-Barcelona). This will be our first Disney cruise and first trip to Europe so we're all excited!! Does anyone else have kids this young going? Have always wanted to travel to Europe and Disney cruise so killing 2 birds with 1 stone on this trip. I'm sure we'll be back to Europe because with young kids, there is only so much you can see before they get tired and cranky.
Would love to do the lanyard, FE and Palo brunch. I know DCL has great kids club on board that our 5 yo will enjoy but not sure if our 3yo will go willingly without a familiar face. Any suggestions about keeping a 3yo occupy while we enjoy a nice meal sans kids? :):)

Welcome to our cruise meet and the Dis boards!:welcome: I'm sure there will be other young kids on the cruise. There are always kids of all ages. In fact, I'll bet there will be more younger kids than teens as it is during the school year and harder to miss esp once you hit high school! Your 3 and 5 yr old can be in the same club together (as long as your 3 yr old is potty trained). Mine stayed together in the same club when they were younger. It is probably wise to pace yourself and do shorter (1/2 day) DCL excursions, or do private excursions where you can be flexible.
Those are great airfares! Is that including tax? Are you from Houston? There are 3 families including me from the Houston area.
Email me your info: full names and DCL ressie # and I will add you to the Palo brunch list. My email is: tainapo@comcast.net Once you have 10 posts, you will be able to PM (private message). So start posting lots of questions! Or just post a "hello!" :goodvibes

You cant go wrong with DCL for your first cruise, we started with DCL and tried to go to RCL twice just because they can be cheaper but nope we come right back to DCL, especially with kids!

Hello to you too!
I am another family of this cruise and I am unusually from the UK with my 9 yr old son.
There are a couple of other places to get tips etc from that have helped me already that I thought I would let you know about!

There is a Facebook page just for us that was started by JOCJARMOM

call the page up on the search with title

Disney Magic May 26 - June 5, 2010 Mediteranean Cruise
On there you can chat very easily and also read some of the discussions.

Another place is the website that MARLOWER has set up

http://muchomagico.weebly.com

Good luck and hope to see you on board!!

sinnika, yes we're from houston (spring, tx actually). I will email you our info when I get home from work since I don't have that info with me. We''ll be doing 3 days pre-cruise in BCN and have booked at Fira Palace - has anyone heard anything about this hotel? It's a block from Las Ramblas. It's one of the few hotels that accommodates 4/room. Thanks to this thread we've also booked at Novotel :yay:. We're looking at tours/excursions at each port. For those that have already booked tours/private drivers etc, could you post which company you used. Thanks.

Did you get some "special deal" with Iberia. I was just searching, because that is the best rate I have heard of yet..., but I can not find anything close to $580.

Welcome. We have a 6 year old daughter that will be on the cruise. She would love to meet your daughters.

We booked Iberia Airlines for our flight from Barcelona to Venice after the cruise. The rate was $77 per person and the cheapest we found.

My daughter was five during our last Disney Cruise and she ate dinner in the kid's club several nights instead of with us. We found that after the first few nights, our kids lost interest in dining with us and enjoyed hanging out with other kids in the club. One of the best things about the Disney cruise with young kids ----- the waiter will cut up your kids food every night at dinner so you will get to sit and enjoy your meal. Ahhhh, the little things!

I have inquired about booking private excursions for pisa/florence and rome with romeinlimo. They are highly recommended on cruise critic. I have not heard from them yet as I just sent the inquiry. We have three in our group. If there is another group of 5 or less who would like to share this private excursion, let me know. Send me an email or pm me and if it is suitable to you to share, we could cut down on our costs.

We used them a couple of years ago in Florence, and we are using them again this year in Rome. (Don't worry, they have a lot of guides... we didn't book them up!) Our guide in Florence was a real gentleman named Lorenzo.

My one tip about them is that their website tells you how long the tour is, but if you go over, then they charge you extra and it wasn't going to be cheap. That happened to us in Florence (even though it wasn't our fault), and my husband got into a shouting match over the phone with our guide's boss (although it wasn't Duman) at the end of the day. We got our way, but it was a bit unpleasant.

My point is be sure that when they quote you a price, you know what you're getting so at the end of the day, you don't get a surprise when they tack on extra Euros.

Oh, and my personal favorite for Rome is Fabrizio with AllAroundItaly. He is adorable and very fun... the kids will love him. We aren't using him this time because we needed a bus that could hold 11 of us and he didn't have it. But I wouldn't hesitate for even a moment to use him. He's not the most cerebral tour guide you've ever had, but probably the most fun. You'll spend the whole day laughing.
