May 26, 2010--5/26/2010 10 Night Mediterranean

We booked Iberia Airlines for our flight from Barcelona to Venice after the cruise. The rate was $77 per person and the cheapest we found.

My daughter was five during our last Disney Cruise and she ate dinner in the kid's club several nights instead of with us. We found that after the first few nights, our kids lost interest in dining with us and enjoyed hanging out with other kids in the club. One of the best things about the Disney cruise with young kids ----- the waiter will cut up your kids food every night at dinner so you will get to sit and enjoy your meal. Ahhhh, the little things!

Sharon

Sharon,
I knew Disney went out of their way to accommodate you but this will be nice :woohoo:

We found the fares through Kayak right after Christmas. Once we've booked the cruise, we checked everyday for low fares and everything was running over $1200/person so we kept waiting and it paid off. When we saw it, we waited to book thinking the other airlines would drop their prices too but none did so we went ahead through Iberia. We tried numerous times because the site kept crashing so we went through Expedia and was able to book. A few days later we received an email from Expedia that the flight was cancelled and they can book us the the higher rate. We rechecked flights at Kayak again and the flight and same rates were still there so we called Iberia directly, they confirmed that it wasn't canceled and gave us a confirmation directly with them. So what's up with Expedia?
Long story short we got good deals after days and days of checking. BA came out with their sales 2 weeks later but still was in the $900 and up. We've always use Kayak to check airfares when we travel - I think they're one of the better sites out there.

Welcome. We have a 6 year old daughter that will be on the cruise. She would love to meet your daughters.

speakupj,
that will be super! Grace is 6 years old and quite a talker once she meets and becomes comfortable with that person. Do you have a 3 yo girl too:teeth::teeth:

Good Morning all! Just a few spots left on the second list for the private Palos brunch. Remember, Palos brunch is only offered on the 2 sea days, whereas Palos dinner is offered every night, so it is one of the most coveted ressies to get! And my favorite meal on the whole cruise! :cloud9: If you have not already emailed me your full names and DCL ressie # and would like to be added to the list, please do so soon! You can PM me or my email is:

Hi - I just found this post on a different thread posted by leelee9878 - they are doing the cruise the week before us. The group she is going with has reviews on trip adviser

This is the link for his reviews on Tripadvisor

This is her post (post 277), which includes their itinerary and price on the following thread:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=35282602#post35282602

I have inquired about booking private excursions for pisa/florence and rome with romeinlimo. They are highly recommended on cruise critic. I have not heard from them yet as I just sent the inquiry. We have three in our group. If there is another group of 5 or less who would like to share this private excursion, let me know. Send me an email or pm me and if it is suitable to you to share, we could cut down on our costs.

Collierville is near Memphis, TN. I just have the one 6 year old, however, she enjoys playing with children of all ages. We have a 2 year old neighbor and she actually asks to go over there and play so I know she will enjoy playing with all of your children regardless of age.

We also have a DD 6 who will be very happy to know there are other girls her age!!

I want to do a meet and greet in the promenade lounge on the first day around 2-4 so people can stop by and say hi and get their lanyards. That sound ok as the first one?

I also would like to get a group picture, they did it for our last group but not sure how i go about it.It would have to be first or last sea day probably since we have so many port days.

I was trying to figure out how to do dis board navigators with meeting times and everyones special days but I dont know as its kind of time consuming and then trying to print them out.Myabe thats something I need hubby to do hmmmmmmmm LOL

When everyone knows there cabin that will be great too because I can make the sheet of where everyones at.

Where is the promenade Lounge please?
Tracey from UK

Heather - TraceyJane tipped me off to this DISBoard. I am Julie the Cruise Director from Cruise Critic and Mucho Magico on the Med. Real name is Jennifer, and we are traveling on our first trip to Europe and 3rd Disney cruise with my husband Rob, and daughters Georgia, 12, and Olivia, 9. We're very excited as everyone. Some of our planning that has worked out for budget-conscious traveling even with this extravagent vacation:

1) Flying from O'hare to BCN on Saturday before (arrives on Sunday). Did queries on Kayak and set up alerts. Eventual tickets were $874RT with British Airways. They still have that pricing yesterday, for a return on Sunday, June 6th (couldn't find a flight that left after 11:00 Am to Chicago, and was cheaper to stay one more night).

2) Staying at Novetel, a brand new (smoke free, which is unusual in Barcelona) hotel that will open in Barcelona off Avenue Diagonal on March 1st. Rooms with a queen and sleeper sofa accomodate 4, and if you book 2 nights get some discount. Pricing for 3 nights pre-cruise was $400 USD. Kids eat breakfast free and adults are $20 USD each, so we'll see when we get there if worth it.

3) Cruise excursions - we are only going on 2 all day excursions, both through Driver Guide Services (Ivano) in Naples and Rome. Cost is high at $500 Euro/day for up to 7 when book 2 excursions (otherwise $550/day), with a few additional costs (lunch, gratuities, and some site admission) but these are two ports we are determined to see the sights in case our only trip there. Driver Guide tours include more stuff than others (Pompeii tour and Vatican Tour), and are a responsive but small, family run business with good reviews on TripAdvisor and Cruise Critic. We are sharing with TraceyJane's family.

4) Not a money saving thing, but the fish extenders sold on ebay from ilvdisney are beautiful and clearly sewn by a professional and a good deal at $35 plus tax. She is very willing to customize colors and fabric. I will be bringing lots of small trinkets from Michigan for others that have fish extenders so our girls to go around and place treats at night (they like thinking of themselves as small "tooth fairy-esque" mice).

5) Pin Trading - Our daughters are very into pin trading with cast members, who are always kind and generous and allow children to pick which pin to take and receive. We have found pin sets (doesn't really matter what they are as they are for trading, and often cast members are thrilled to get them as they are special edition) on disneystore.com twice a year pin clearance. We have gotten Jessica Rabbit, Stitch military, and High School Musical sets for about $3-$4 a pin, which for an expensive hobby is cheap. We usually let the girls pick out one special pin from each trip, of which there are of course 1,000s to choose from.

6) Hidden Mickeys - check out a Hidden Mickeys book from the library and photocopy the pages with clues for the Disney Magic. Then if (big if) there is a bored moment, go on a scavenger hunt. We always do one scrapbook page (yes, a cheesy junior league hobby that my liberal, social worker self really enjoys) of pictures of hidden mickeys, which of course once you find it's hard not to notice. There is a wonderful one in rope in the main store on the Magic that Goofy is holding.

7) If you are into characters, purchase a three ring binder of index cards and a sharpie (or several - we prefer the click in/out ones in purple) for the characters at a drug store (Walgreens and Rite Aid have them, and I'm sure many others). Cheaper than the autograph books. You have better and quicker access to characters on the cruise than you ever will at the parks.

8) Not a money saving, but I have made some flashcards with words and phrases in Spanish, Italian, and French for all of us to study. We are trying to use Rosetta Stone for Spanish, but thought knowing a couple of courtesy phrases in each language would be good. Just checked out translation dictionaries from library and the phrases are typically on the inside cover.

I am interested in lanyards if Heather you are still willing to allow people to join your group. Also we'd love to meet and greet on the first day. We are going to try to find/make/print some door signs, and "ears" that go around our cabin number. The planning is half the fun.

Enough for now. Glad to have found this site.

Ok, Huby and I are off tonight so were going to work on the list for what family has what day and will also have ages and a totals, its not to late to get in, if you havent emailed me ages and names of everyone in your group and hopefully cabin number please do so. I will update the cabin list later and have a list of all cabins participating so its easier when passing out on ship.I think since so far there was "families" wanting to do this it would be easier for families just to take a day and get everyones cabin since there might be only 10 or so cabins. If someone doesnt like this let me know but just seems to be the easiest as of now .

Hubby and I will be passing out lanyards on the first day, if you dont want to do the FE but want a lanyard that is fine and dont be shy, just send me everyone in party with first names and they will have your dis name on tag with real name.

Ok bethany and I are going to Animal Kingdom , one benefit of living in Florida :) Going to go to Downtown Disney and see what I can see for gifts too :)
Everyone have a good sunday and be back tonight!

Heather - we are in 5524 with Jennifer, Rob, Georgia, and Olivia. We plan to do FEs, lanyards (if we can), and DISmeets.

Welcome!
Youve got some neat ideas there!
Never thought of the flashcards!
We havent booked our hotel yet, cant decide and its hard to find a place for 5 . We may end up at the Novotel , especially if its smoke free.
Im bringing 2 -12 year olds so maybe they can meet up.
I added you for the lanyards :)

Welcome Julie the Cruise Director! :welcome: I've got spots for 2 people on the 2nd Palo's brunch list if you are interested! Just email me at tainapo@comcast.net
Great planning tips, by the way! We love saving money too, so we can make "other splurges" without the guilt! :goodvibes

Liz and I are also staying at the Novetel, arriving Monday.

We are currently unable to book excurslons. However, since this is likely to be my one and only trip to Italy, I'm not missing Pompeii, Capri, Amalfi Coast, and the Roman structures. These excursions are expensive and certainly more than we expected, but we're going to "gut up" and do 'em.

Has anyone looked into traveling into Rome on their own (by train) and finding any reputable guides once you arrive in the city? :goodvibes

I highly recommend you head over to CruiseCritic and look on their boards. Then go to Ports Of Call, Europe, and then Italy. There are TONS of posts about how to do Rome (or any other port) on your own.

We are doing the train into Rome and using the Gray Line "hop on, Hop off" bus. We figured this would allow us to "see" a lot in one day, even though we probably will not go into may of the places.

If I wasn't sharing that is eactly what we would be doing, I did find somone that sounded good check out

roninrome.com

He has a site full of lots of info includimg details about the train to Rome and he will also act as a guide, he quoted me 140 euros for us three for the day and the train is only 9 euros each so that is very good value
