2) Learn to SMILE at everyone's stares
3) Relax. It's only going to get worse.

Okay - now for some real advice. Christina has logged quite a few frequent flier miles since birth.

1) Run around the airport as much as possible. Do NOT make your child sit quietly while you are waiting to board.
2) Have one person board earlier with most of the junk to get the overhead space. Have another stay with the kid until the last possible minute to board. Refer to #1.
3) Fill your entire carry-on with toys for the kid. Don't bother to bring a book - you won't have time to read it.
4) Try Benadryl BEFORE the flight to make sure nothing bad happens. Christina gets hyper on quite a few "sleepy" medications.
5) Cheerios.
6) Try to stick to normal sleep schedule as much as possible before the flight. Although it might seem good to "keep them up" so they will get sleepy, it doesn't work that way. They just get cranky instead.
7) Give yourself as much time as possible to arrive at the airport early. It can take a long time to go through security and you want time to do item #1.
8) Do the best you can to stay calm. Toddlers pick up on your stress and run with it (literally).
9) Ditch the carseat. Can you imagine trying to sleep sitting upright in a car seat for 8 hours? Check it if you are bringing it.
10) Do laps in the plane.
11) Also pack the regular night-time routine stuff. If you usually bath, brush teeth, read a book - then do those things (except the bath) right before you want to go to sleep.
12) Pre-order a child's meal.
13) Recognize that he is a toddler and you won't be able to control his every moment. There are times he's going to be awful and you won't be able to do anything about it. My cousin's son cried from the time he left LA to the time he arrived in Florida. My own daughter cried from Miami to Atlanta - nonstop. Other times they have both been angels. Mothers, grandmothers, etc. will smile knowingly and want to give you a hug. Everyone else will want to shoot you. When you're stressing, find the mothers and ignore the others!

Okay - that's about all I can think of for now. I think you've already got a great sense of humor about the whole trip - you should be fine.

Sue has great advice as always. I thought I'd add my my two cents; I've had 4 under 5 traveling at one time, and babies traveling since they were a few weeks old.

1. Keep the carseat (IMHO) - My kids rode really well in their car seat for two reasons; A) They were used to it, and when they were put in the carseat they realized that it meant, you weren't going anywhere for a while, chill out. B) If there is that much turbulance (there may be at some point in such a long flight) they will be safe. It is very dangerous for them if a situation like that arrises to be on your lap. Like in a car, no matter how strong you are, you won't be able to hang on to them. ****Nothing says you have to use that carseat if you have it there. Your child can sit on both of your laps, put the top up so he can get in or out, just another seat, right?****

2. Have something for them to suck on! It can be a bottle, it can be a sucker, it can be a pacifier ***ANYTHING***. Their ears will hurt from the pressure, and they don't have the ability to try and pop them like we do. This is one of the biggest causes of kids crying on airplanes. It really hurts, and they have no way to tell you.

3. Benadryl acts like a decongestant, but like Sue said doesn't always work. It hyped my kids out too. You might try dimetapp, any thing that is a decongestant will help keep their sinuses clear.

4. Bring NEW toys! Things he's never seen before and things that will keep him occupied. Have enough to possibly bring one out every hour or so. If he doesn't use them, save them for the trip home.

5. Bring ALL his favorite foods...rofl....I can just see you with 20 suitcases...

Show him some video's, go to a local airport...he's probably old enough to get excited about it.

Yes, she will be on the cruise. I don't know if they have their seat assignments yet. They have a 6 yo, and he's also been flying since he was really little. My sister brings her portable DVD player for him. We use our laptop.

When are you coming back? They're coming back on the 7th.
