i am sure this question has come up before i found the thread what are people doing about cell phones. cindy p.s. even though most of the family is traveling with us have to be able to check on our 4 legged friends hahahaha:lmao:

:hourglass
My DW, Becky and I, Ron have the following itenerary:
Delta 114 dep ATL 22 May at 0800 PM and arrive Barcelona 1105 AM

Dep Barcelona Air France 1149 1030 AM 06 June arrive Paris Chas de Gaul 1225 PM

Dep Paris 06 June 0150 PM and arrive ATL 0500 PM

Looks like you'll beat us by a half hour! You and Becky are now the official First - First Med Cruise arrivals. If you happen to see three generations of women looking completely jet-lagged (well, except for the youngest who will be bouncing off of the walls) - say HI!

It was discussed about a month or two back - maybe around page 160 or so? Just guessing. I should have added it to the FAQs but didn't....

I'll summarize very, very briefly in order of cost.

1) Don't call home - email.
2) Try skype or some other VOIP service. May or may not work on cruise ship depending on satellite bandwidth and the whims of DCL management.
3) Calling card.
4) Purchase pre-paid SIM from countries we are visiting. Cheapest in country. Need a GSM-based phone with SIM unlocked. Available for purchase or rent both in the US or in country. Cheapest in country.
5) Use existing cell-phone service with international. Cheapest for GSM-based providers like TMobile. Need GSM-based phone with SIM unlocked. Greatest advantage - you keep your existing phone number and can receive incoming calls. Not all service providers can do this.
6) Get international roaming on provider that allows this (like Sprint/Nextel). Also need GSM-based phone (which is NOT the phone they sell you). Greatest advantage - you keep your existing phone number and can receive incoming calls. This works for those that don't have international plans listed in item #5. Still - not all service providers can do this.
7) Use ship-to-shore rates and call from your room.

HTH!

Sue

Sounds like you already have the trip covered!

As for the airline power adapter, just be cautious. One time we lost power to our seat overhead lights and our seats. It wasn't anything serious enough to force a landing anywhere - they just rerouted power and the lights/seats lost out. Make sure you do bring at least one battery - and that it is full just in case!

Sue

We are getting all set. Tonight we worked on refreshing some Spanish with the tyke. More like we worked on it and he giggled at us and layed on his back and pretended he was a beetle! *shrug*

We have battery power too for the laptop. If the power fails we have enough stuff to do. Hopefully SLEEP!

I spent the kiddos nap working on my fish extenders. Ahhh, they are coming out so cool. Can't wait to hang them up! :) Gotta make one for the in-laws too! :)

we arrive barcelona 5/23 0735 does that make us first?
also anyone needing to kill time in ny send pm to me and i'll send air train and lirr links and info, air train is how we will be getting to jfk from lirr

Thank you for the low down, Skype doesn't work on the ship Disney blocked it when the found crew using it Have a friend who works from home and bought it. Went on a 3 day cruise last month to try it out and it was blocked. I have sprint going to call them tomorrow about the international plan. So are you saying cheaper to by the sims card in italy than here. cindy

Let us know about Sprint. We have Sprint, they don't take SIM Cards. They do however have a new phone that is a Tri-band. It can call from Italy, but is more expensive. I don't know the rate for sure.

I think some get there on the 22nd. We also get in on the 23rd at 7:30 am.

Everyone wear their Dis' bracelets!!!:cool1:

Gary,

We have about a 7 hr layover when we get back to JFK before flying home. I know others do too. Is there anything we can do in that amount of time and still be back to get through security on time? Is there a train we can take? A place to leave luggage? Any advice would help.

Will post a picture hopefully tomorrow night when I finish them off. No real pattern, I fly by the seat of my pants when I sew. I would sell them but I really just don't have enough time to do all the things I need to do, let alone sew more stuff! :) But thanks for thinking of a new business for me when I return from the cruise! :)

I already sell custom kids clothing on eBay but have put that on hold til after the mega-vacation! :) YIPPIE!

OKay, it isn't done yet. Still need to put the hanging bar on top and finish the "please don't steal me" personalization! :)

Hope the idea helps those who are still looking for ideas.

It took about 30 mintues to make... it isn't THAT great... but it works! :)

I am adding a top pocket that will be black and have "The Reeds" written on it. At least that is the plan as of right now! :)

I noticed at least one group is catching a flight out of BCN at 10:00 and others at 10:30 on 6/6

I was wondering if DCL has a suggested (or guaranteed) earliest time to make a flight connection after disembarking the ship?

Thanks

You are very talented! It turned out very cute!
By the way did you remember the coloring books/pages and an extra box of crayons? And a package of pipecleaners works well too!
Does DCL do anything special for your sons b-day?
I think you are very brave! I didnt travel with my son until his first Dland trip at 3 and1/2!

Crayons, pens and coloring books in the box too! :)

We took a road trip from Florida to Ohio when he was 5 months old. He is great in the car. We take nearly bi-weekly trips to Orlando to Disney and he does great with that too. We actually aren't too worried about the travel with him. It will be his first plane trip.

As for his B-day... I have NO idea. We are going to order birthday package for him..(cake, banner and a few other things). I just want him to have a good time...

Me, DH and kiddo all have b-days the same week so it is kinda neat for all of us anyway.

Was anyone watching The Amazing Race tonight and noticed the mouse ears on the road sign in Hong Kong. Very Cool!

My friend went on the Magic recently and said that the shampoos etc. have all been upgraded. They are no longer in the little foil pouches, they are now in actual tubes. The products are also different than before. She loved the shampoo so much that she is thrilled they are selling it in the gift shops at WDW now. Hope that helps?

You should tell your friend that they make it in Chicago and they have stores and you can purchase it online. If you purchase more than $100 they have free shipping. I have some of the tubes from our stay at the Poly for marathon weekend, but I never used the shampoo or conditioner. However, I love the lotion and carry it in my pocket at work- I smile when I use my mickey hand lotion at work.
