I just bought a new camera for myself and was going to pickup one of those Disney princess 35mm cameras for DD. Well - instead I found these really cute Digital mini cameras from Disney. They had about 4 different versions including a pirates one. For just $20, we got the DIGITAL camera AND some neat Disney software for picture editing. Now I don't have to worry about film costs - or xray machines. Christina has already taken over 50 pictures. The camera is supposed to hold 40 pictures although somehow we got it to hold 52. It uses a AAA battery, is extremely lightweight and connects to the computer through USB. Tis cool! The pictures don't seem half bad.

Glad Christina likes her new camera. It is always interesting to see some of the shots that they get from their perspective. Noah gets lots of garbage, but every now and then there are some that I frame because they are very interesting.

Sue, how far is West Palm Beach from where you are? I am trying to decide where & when I want to dive. The first weekend will be busy for me, I will be in a conference all day on Saturday and on Sunday, I'll be heading up to Crystal River for one of the dive shops sales and I might dive up there for the day. The following weekend is pretty open- other than the 15K Minnie on 5/6 and flying home. I have never gone diving in FL- other than at Epcot, so I'm kind of in the dark. My local dive shop recommended some place in West Palm Beach and I have done some business with the Kississimee Dive shop. I've spent so much time working on the cruise, that I havnen't made plans for FL. Any suggestions or 411?

Diving in Florida is best in Key Largo. West Palm Beach is about an hour north of where I live depending on where in West Palm. There are reefs all up and down the Atlantic seaboard. The further north you go, the less visibility you have. We have decent reefs here in Ft. Lauderdale. There is a fair amount of beach diving within walking distance. Not as sure about West Palm but since it's only about 45 miles north it couldn't be that much different.

In Ft. Lauderdale, we have most of the tropical fish that you would see in the Caribbean. The visibility just isn't quite as good. Instead of visibilty measured in miles, you're looking at 50 - 100'. Less if it's been rough.

The waters in West Palm are a bit rougher than those down here. About 5 miles south of me, the water turns to glass if it's calm. Looks like a pond, not the ocean!

This time of year is usually beautiful although the water is a bit "cold" for those of us natives. It's in the mid 70s.

As for who to go through - most of the PADI dive shops are reputable around the area. I tend to prefer smaller boats that cater to 6 or less, but that's me. They also have the standard "dive" boat that would hold 20 or more. That can be nice if you're diving midweek since they won't be as full.
Many of the boats here cross back and forth between diving and fishing depneding on what they charter that day. The dive stores all have local charters that they use. Which basically means that your shop in Kissimmee can just as easily charter in West Palm as you can through a dive shop you don't know.

If you are looking for dive gear, one of the BIGGEST discount dive shops in the US has it's warehosue here.

Whew! If you need more, just PM or email me. This could get long on the list!

Disneyfamilyforever---Mike,Cathy, Allison, Megan and Kelly plan on attending the fountain watching party in Barcelona. We will be getting to our hotel around 7 so we hope to make it to meet everyone.
Mike, Cathy, Allison and Megan (girls age 16) will be attending the sweet dreams party. Unless of course the 16 year olds have other teen plans....and they usually do....but I can dream can't I that they would spend time with us.

Sue,

Do tell! A camera like that would be perfect for my nephew.

I found the port information and how to get there if anyone needs it.

Sue-

I you don't mind my asking, where did you get this? I am interested in the software.

Thanks

Sue,

Do tell! A camera like that would be perfect for my nephew.

I found the port information and how to get there if anyone needs it.

:woohoo:

It's called the Disney pix micro. I bought it at Best Buy. It is NOT on their online site (at least not under cameras). It might be somewhere else (disney kid stuff?). They had 4 when we were there: one of the princesses, Ariel, Pirates and High School Musical. My ever atypical daughter chose the High School Musical one. The Princesses and Ariel look girly. The Pirates and HSM ones look boyish.

It uses one AAA battery (not included). Ours took 63 photos before complaining about being "full". It downloads via an included USB cable. It is strictly point and shoot. It is smaller than a deck of cards (much smaller). It's about half the size of a cellphone. The video editing and downloading software included is designed with a child in mind.

It has a fixed focus on it. We didn't seem to have any problem with things out of focus - except when my DD moved the camera. The camera beeps after taking a picture (it isn't annoying). It beeps when you turn it on and it beeps three times when it is full and can't take any more pictures.

Price was $19.99 plus tax.

I think it's perfect for a child that is just learning to take pictures. It is very simple to use. Kids that already know how to take pictures would probably enjoy the picture editing software. It has Disney backgrounds, stickers, etc. It makes a cool printable photo for you. You can also use the software to create smaller images for emailing to friends.

Hope that helps!

Sue

Sandy,

Best Buy. I just found it online. Search for "Disney pix". It's the 19.99 version, not the more expensive one. You can also search for "Digital Blue" which is the name of the company that makes these.

I'm here. We will have to cut of the lanyard list very soon. So if you are a lurker, you better start posting and sign up on the cruise list, or you will miss out on the free lanyards and name badges.

Hi, y'all,

I, too, bought my granddaugher a Little Mermaid digital camera thru Best Buy, online. It was, I think, around $50 but it holds 200 pix, (I forgot the megapixels) and comes with all the software, cables and even batteries!!! Lauren loves it and has been practicing here at home. My daughter is bringing her laptop to download all the pix from both their cameras.
Good luck on your purchase!
Mari

Jen,

I tried to get room #'s to you, but I didn't think you wanted me to re-register in order to do that. I tried to email through the link, and it dumped me saying I was junk mail.

Here it goes: Scooby3x1y - Bruce & Lori's cabin #5502, Daryl & Ann's #5504, Pat & Marie's #5500

Thanks!
