We still haven't worked out all our plans yet!

For Naples:
We're going to get to Pompeii on our own. Right now I am thinking we'll take the train from Naples to Pompeii and then continue on the train to Sorrento and then take a ferry or hydrofoil back to Naples.

For Palermo:
Still pretty clueless. Nothing in the excursions jumped out at me and I just don't have a feel for how well you can get around on your own. Some of the ports in the Caribbean let you off right near a decent shopping area and in others you are out in the middle of no-where. It might be nice to just walk around in Palermo and do some shopping since there are no "must see" things for me right now.

Cell phone:
I just bought one of those $49 Mobal cell phones for Europe. I now need to figure out how to use it! Lots of numbers are involved. I'm probably just better off handing it to my 13 year old daughter who will be text messaging Italians in no time.

I haven't really even looked at what we'll really do in Barcelona. We're getting there the 24th so have a little time to settle in and not feel in a rush to see 3000 years of history in 8 hours like everywhere else we're going.

Once we head out for the airport I'm going to try desparately to relax, enjoy and go with the flow.

Kim,
I wrote you this huge post regarding pompeii and then the dis server must have gone down and poof :wizard: it was gone. :rotfl:

One of our fellow cruisers sent me a very nice PM that suggested an idea for our sail away party. (That is at 9 or 10pm, right?)

As we are in Rome, why not do as the Romans do and wear togas at our sail away?

As this is a family cruise, you must be dressed under your toga- this is not DCL goes swinger style! :scared1: You also probably should not steal sheets from your room, unless you ask your room steward. Our fellow cruiser suggested we wear them to dinner, but dinner will be presail away. Another option would be toga for anther event.....any suggestions? Anyone have a new or different idea?

I'm already looking into dye after I could not find lime green sheets...

Cute idea but we won't be in Rome for sailaway. I'm going to be a party pooper and opt out of anything that causes me to pack extra stuff! Still not sure what the weight restrictions are for Iberia.

Oh, good morning.....welcome to another day closer to our cruise!

Rather than the Barcelona sailaway how about the night we sail away from Civitavecchia, after seeing the ruins of Rome?

I had thought about a toga party before, but then thought about luggage restrictions. I'm not sure if I'm going to bring pirate gear (if they have a pirate night) and may go with one versatile dress for both formal and semi formal nights. Don't know yet.

I'm with you there! I have a long black dress with a jacket. I thought of just switching the jacket for the few nights. But I may forgo the dress altogether and use a long length black skirt with dress or non-dressy tops.

We, too, will not be bringing pirate gear. Christina has finally outgrown the pirate dress we've been using for THREE cruises. I think I've outgrown mine too! :lmao:

They have them on Ebay :rotfl2:

That too is another late night and I bet there will be many tired people after running all around Rome. Just tell you steward you need an extra sheet and that you will give it back.....

Maybe for the wine & cheese party?? That could be kind of fun since it is our only official get together. Thoughts, comments? Everyone already knows I would show up in a sheet to meet total strangers.... It does seem kind of fitting though- as it is the only get together and we will be partaking of the drink of the gods.

Also, you could tell yourself that the weight of the sheet would probably be equal to the t-shirt you know you are going to buy....just toss the cheap sheet. Unless you are using on from DCL, then kindly give it back.

It would be fun to dress up - except I'm totally USELESS with a sheet. I always wore clothes under a toga - since no matter what I did, it would fall off.

How about a pre-party toga tying lesson??? :rotfl:

Togas can be readily made with the assistance of safety pins and cording so that wouldn't take up much space/weight in luggage.

If you start looking now you can probably find a sheet on a clearance rack so your investment in the costume would be minimal if you decide to bring it from home. Then leave it behind for the next group to use for their toga party. Heck, if you are leaving it for someone specific on the next cruise they may split the cost with you - lol.

Thanks for the memories from college.

I am just crazy enough to do this - my father on the other hand - I will not be telling.

Sweetsue: Thanks for all the great info about the luggage. It looks like we can bring 2 bags each as long as they are not over 51 pounds apiece.

OK, so now in addition to the sheets, I'm going to have to bring a strapless bra as I am not letting the "girls" go unfettered. And I have no idea how to make a toga, so someone's gonna have to help me. See all the trouble you started ;)

We will be too busy chasing around a toddler to join the toga fun. I have a feeling we will be the strangers with lanyards! :) Just like we were on our last cruise! :(

Oh well, we joined the board to learn about cruise stuff.

PS: someone asked about the private spa rooms. I found this wedsite:

http://www.disneycruiser.info/surialreport.htm

Interesting info on this page for first and veteran cruisers :)

Well, just remember that when you see someone with one of our lanyards - you can always start a conversation by saying "hey, nice lanyard" - that's all the ice breaker you need. :lmao:

Rent Animal House (I dodn't remember it as R rated though)- they have a great toga party in that movie.:rotfl:

Also if you google Toga Party you will be surprised at the amount of info and pictures there

Thanks for the link of the private spa rooms- it was me asking. I'm really tempted, but the price is SO high. I look at cost- as to how many hours do I have to work to do that?? :lmao:

Sure, you can join the toga party....either stick said toddler in flounders for a little while or depending on how the party works out- stick said toddler in a diaper and attach wings!

I am not a crazy as I appear....atleast until I am comfortable with the people to be so. :3dglasses I don't even need the alcohol to be crazy:laughing: (Traditionally, I don't drink.)

Peter & Ken- want to judge who has the best toga?:woohoo:

I better get back to the books....

I have done the Rasul with Robb, that was fun. :)

Here is the link to the photos of the private villas- http://www.disneycruiser.info/spavillas.htm

Wow, those look really, really great. I could really enjoy that. Makes me sad that I won't be doing it with Robb though, with the hot tube and lounge on the deck. Wow, maybe I'll pick up some OT and do it....
