May 25th, 2008 West Coast - Mexico

I believe that it was about 10 am in 2005. Hopefully we'll have that confirmed soon.
We were on the second West Coast cruise in 2005 and we were turned away to kill a couple of hours when we arrived 10:30. Considering it's not their home port where the process runs like clockwork, I think it's possible we may see this again. Especially since we'll be boarding after the 14 day Repo and it will be the first disembarkation in this port. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up, just in case.

There's a nice little Maritime Museum just down the road that we killed some time in. I can't remember the name of it now, but the security guard that turned us around (he was SO nice and helpful) suggested it.

After having to kill HOURS at the San Diego Convention Center for our Hawaii cruise and then not boarding until almost 10:00pm, I'll take spending an hour or so in a nice little Maritime Museum anytime! ;)

:surfweb:

P.S.

Thanks for the tips MousseauMob. We will be arriving early, only because we will be exchanging cars with friends who will disembarking. I wasn't sure what we would do for a bit. DH will love this:love:

Can you believe how close it's getting!

We leave for a road trip tomorrow, so I'm excited for that now. Heading to Sacramento, San Francisco, Big Sur and then home.

Jrp
What kind of door signs and magnets do you have?? If you don't mind sharing. I need to get started!
Mary:dance3:

Hey fellow cruisers - I can't believe we are less than 2 months and counting, we're getting very excited! In just over a month we'll be able to see the Magic set sail for her journey to us - YEAH! I remember in 2005, the Disboards were hopping with all of us watching and commenting, as well as we watched her go through the Panama Canal which was awesome - I wish I could have been on her, but it was still thrilling to watch. We could see Captain Mickey on deck.

I haven't been posting much, mostly because I've been so busy, I have a huge project at work we're trying to wrap up and it's been 60++ hours a week on the darn thing, so I don't have much available time.

I found the links for that Maritime Museum - which now reading the description it apparently is larger than I remembered! There also is an Aquarium which is a bit further down the road from the museum, I think we may end up here if we have to this time since we've already been to the Museum and we LOVE Aquariums. Here's the links.

MaryAZ and jrp - please don't remind me about the door magnent, I had such high expectations of making us all t-shirts and door magnets, and.... I'm not getting any of it done. :scared: As well as I keep thinking what I need to do is get all our links and post them on the first page of the thread so they are easy to find...

Speaking of that - I saw on other meet threads where they are actually posting the stateroom numbers? How do you all feel about that? I have kind of mixed feelings, as I worry about security, on the other hand, I'm totally confused on how we are ever going to hook up or meet or anything. On our Celebrity cruise the cruise critic hosted a party if you had more than 25 people sign up - so we all just showed up for the party, exchanged our gifts, and got to meet face to face so we knew each other on the ship. Additionally, I hosted the volcano viewing party as we sailed by Mt. Kilauea - but again, it was a set time and place so easy to do. I'm SO confused about how to make this work on DCL. I considered hosting a party early in the cruise - first sea day - but I only received 2 people's response. I totally understand not wanting to commit because we're not sure what else will be scheduled for that time, but I'm afraid if we just leave this to chance and not actually plan something it won't happen. So please, does anyone have good ideas on what to do or how to make it work.

On my 2005 DCL cruise we bought gifts for every dis-member cabin, and then went cabin to cabin and delivered them. It was a fairly small group - and the cabin numbers were only PM'd so kept confidential. I have to say, this method, while fun would be impossible for a larger group and it was very stressful when you have all your gifts bought and start packing and a new member would join, and you don't want to leave them out. Not to mention it increased the packing needs a great deal more than a single gift exchange, which insures everyone bringing a gift receives a gift, and those that didn't want to participate didn't have to. But, you really need a place and time for the group to get together to do this type of exchange... :confused3

I pulled out my old navigators from 2005, and I can't find the Castaway Club party posted. I found the DVC party, and all the presentations. ;) But I am missing the last navigator or 2, I only have the first 5, but I can't find it. Additionally the schedule is SO different this time. We sailed on Saturday in 2005 and had two sea days to Puerto Vallarta. This year it's reversed going to Cabo first and we sail on Sunday.

Ellen"MousseauMob" - I really wish that I had some ideas for you but I don't. I am really looking forward to meeting everyone and if we decide on a gift then it wouldn't be a problem and would love to participate. I wouldn't mind giving out my cabin number but still don't have it and probably won't until I get on the ship so I am not sure how that would work for us. I hope that we can have something planned, it would be a bummer if we didn't.
I know that I haven't been posting that much either. My whole family has had a run with being ill. My ds is trying so hard to get potty trained. I am very stressed out since we have two huge vacations going on this year and didn't realize how much harder it is with the kids being 6 and 4. Ok, enough complaining for now. I will try and help think of some ideas if I can.

Ellen The Long Beach aquarium is awesome. Really fun. My inlaws live in LB so we have been there a few times. I am interested in a meetup and gift exchange. Not sure about giving out my cabin # though. I hope we can work something out.
Nicole Good luck on the potty training and hope everyone feels better. My husband is getting over the flu-the one the shot did not protect against.

Hi All:goodvibes
Hi Mary AZ.. I have Mickey heads in all the colors available from the Home Depot and I scanned them into the computer for our last cruise in 2005. I then use Print Shop to add graphics and text to make the heads more interesting ( the color for the Diser's is the Lime Green heads).. I purchase magnetic sheetss from Walmart and then print them up with whatever design I have done and then cut them out .. I put them all over the door as they are metal and then give a lot them away as we leave the ship(except the ones with our names on them.. I went to Michaels and got the large felt (legal size) pads, I then take a clear plastic sheet protector and staple it on the felt. I pick ups several stickons from Michaels and put them all over the felt .. I then make posters on glossy print paper in reference to the welcome aboard, days at sea, and the various nights and events on the ship.. I have 4made up that I replace the posters in them every day.. I can send you one if you want to pm me with your web address and I can send you the colored Mickey heads, you will only need the print shop program to see them as they are in psd format.. I don't look at this site every night but as we get closer I wil be on it more.. I am also interested in the get together, on the last cruise in 2005 I helped coordinate the DISer's meet and greet and we had about 25 total. It was a great time and we made some new friends throughout the cruise, so I hope more people will do this.. Is anyone else stayin at DL prior to the cruise? If so we are staying 3 days prior to and the day after the cruise before flying back home..
Boy am I getting long winded.. Bye for now jrp:surfweb:

I'm sorry to hear about the family being sick - I hope everyone gets better soon, and good luck with DS. Two big vacations in one year is rough, but just think of how much fun!

Mary, you're right, the Long Beach Aquarium is awesome - it's the Aquarium of the Pacific, and we're going to it on Saturday before we cruise. We can't wait, we did it in 2005 also. I didn't realize there was also an Aquarium in San Pedro just down the road from the pier and the Maritime Museum we went to - so if we have to kill some time before they let us on (like we did last time - although I'm crossing my fingers we won't) we'll probably head there and check it out. Monterey Bay Aquarium is still our favorite so far, but we're going to do the one in Chicago this fall also - so we'll have to see if it stays our favorite. ;) - I hope DH is feeling better soon!

Long winded... you did read my novel sized post right? Now THAT was long winded! :lmao: Speaking of the Home Depot lime green heads - I do stick one of these in my lanyard pounch - that way other Dis'ers can tell I'm a fellow Dis'er. Do you put the posters on your door? Do you by chance have any pictures, it would be awesome to see? Also, would you be interested in coordinating a Dis'er meet and greet for us this time? If possible it would be good to have one that includes the kids so they can meet also, but if not - then maybe we can do the kids meet the first day (boarding) by the Mickey Pool - I'll be the one with the Lime Green Mickey Head in my lanyard looking ecstatic and frazzled at the same time. :rotfl:

Hi guys,

I'm on the 6/8 cruise and have a big favor to ask - can someone bring back navigators? You are the first west coast cruise this year and we're counting on a lot of info from you (no pressure or anything).

I plan on being at the port to send you guys off on the 25th. I'll make sure to post any pictures I take that day.

Hi All:goodvibes
All of my door magnets are in .psd format (print shop deluxe. I will try to convert one to word and put it on a post today.. I line the back of the foam posters with magnetic tape bought in a roll from the craft store or walmart.. The offer for the mickey heads is still open as they just are inserted as clipart in word or print shop and I can send you all I have through an e-mail attachment..As far as the get together for all that wish to attend ==3:00 pm of boarding day by the mickey pool on deck 9 would be a good time before the boat drill and would allow anyone getting on board late to attend.. I could ask for a list of names and I will make up a quesi roll of those in attendance and we could go from there. We could schedule another meeting etc.. and it would give the kids and parents a quick hello while the kids jump in the pool. What is a DIS'er? Huh lets see-- A person or persons who post on this board and enjoy the company of other DIS'ers. Usually a mickey fanatic with OCD for Lime Green Mickey heads and all things Disney:rotfl: Nicole keep us appraise of the adventures of potty man, and may the force be with you.:tinker:

Thanks, I'd love to see the pictures from our sail away. I will try to remember to bring back the Navigators - although apparently I'm not the best at this, since I totally forgot 2 days worth on the last cruise! :sad2:

Ok I am slow, what is a dis'er??

jrp, you ROCK! Love your door decorations and you made me laugh out loud with "adventures of potty man" - good thing I wasn't drinking my coffee at the time, or I would have spewed it all over keyboard! :rotfl: 3:00pm by the Mickey Pool sounds perfect. I'll be there with my lime (dis) green Mickey head/paint chip in my lanyard! Should we try to do a gift exchange at this time, or is that too hectic for first day and carry-on?

BTW - wanted to share this thread for everyone, if you aren't already aware of it. The designers are great and happy to assist in making signs and things.

I updated the first post of the thread to include all the helpful information gathered so far. Please let me know if I missed anything that would be good to have there.

Hi Everyone!!
3 o'clock meet sounds good to me!:cool1:
Also, I'm willing to organize the fish extender exchange for those that want to participate. We can use the 3 o'clock meet up to verify room numbers for those of with GTY rooms and pass out the final list.:grouphug: You can just PM me if interested
Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Hi all our fellow May 25th cruisers :) Our family group is from Arizona, Hawaii and Maryland. My niece is going to make our fish extenders, so I'm really getting excited about all the exchanges. We were hoping to get on the ship early, so maybe we'll see you at the pool. Hopefully we'll be able to meet some of our Arizona cruisers.

BTW....I love the signs that were just posted. They are awesome.

Thanks
Margaret
