May 25, 2012 - Magical 8-night cruise - NYC to the Bahamas!

Hi everyone!

I'm going to be ordering the LIME GREEN LEIS next weekend. Please be sure that your name and the names of everyone in party is listed in the Roll Call on Post #1 to make sure that I order enough for everyone! :grouphug:

The leis are a part of my FE gift, but I'll be giving them out to everyone who is on our Roll Call, even if you're not participating in the actual FE exchange or not. I will be giving them out at the Meet & Greet on embarkating day. :sunny: Sorry but I had to add a cut-off date for the leis of March 25th so that I have enough time to place the order and get them back.

Hi all!

Can you please add us to FE and Roll Call?

Jill
Thea (DD turning 11 during cruise)

Cabin 5524

Celebrating birthdays...my actual before we sail May 22 and my daughter's 11th brithday is May 30th Disney Day! This will be her 8th consecutive birthday celebration in the Magic Kingdom and our first Disney Cruise!

there are just the two of you traveling? I will add your celebrations to the list on the FE page, but want to be sure I have everyone who is in the cabin that is participating in the FE exchange

Cayla

Just a reminder - the FE list will be closing on March 25 -

if you would like to be added and participate please PM me the information listed on the link in my signature!

Hi everyone - Guess it's time to get serious! I can't believe how close the cruise is:yay: I have a couple of questions. #1 - Do you get a boarding # when you get to the port? We have never cruised and I saw a post about it but have no idea what they were talking about. #2 - Is everyone here participating in formal / semi-formal night? Would you look out of place if you didn't?

@Georgette - where on LI are you? I saw your post about the GS and the Cradle of Aviation so I am guessing you're in Nassau.

I just caught up on the posts I missed. You all reminded me to order our FE! That would not have been good.

Looking forward to the meet-and-greet as well. Great idea!

Jenn:)

Hey Jenn - a couple of answers for you!!
1: the boarding numbers are assigned by time slot/cruise status. Kinda confusing, so here we go...there are four levels of cruise status:
newbie - never cruised with DCL in the past
Silver - 1 to 5 cruises
Gold - 6 to 10 cruises
Platinum - more than 10 cruises

the Platinum folks do not pick a boarding time, we and all concierge guests can arrive when ever we want and are given the "lowest" number card available to board.

ALL others have to pick an arrival time, this is done when your online check in stuff is completed. If you arrive before your chosen/assigned time then you may or may not be allowed to enter the terminal. If you are allowed to enter, you will be given a boarding card with a number appropriate to your time window. That is confusing...so here is an example. If you are Silver, and choose 2pm as your arrival time and your flight/transportation gets you to the port at noon - you may be cooling your heals outside. If you are allowed to enter - once you check in at the desk the boarding card you are given will have the highest number available at the time - since you are super early! They know how many folks are supposed to be there at noon, 1pm, and 2pm - you will get a 2pm number. NO MATTER WHAT TIME YOU CHECK IN.

The reason this is being done is because the Dream and Fantasy are SO big that the terminal can not handle all the people trying to get onboard. DCL had to figure out a way to stagger folks. Platinums are exempt as a perk. I personally tend to get to the port at 9am. This is before the ship has completely disembarked. I wait until I am allowed to board at 10:30 or 11am. then I am off and running. No one has access to their cabin until after 1:30pm.

A few hints here -

1. make sure your carryon luggage is on wheels or comfortable to carry. You will have it with you until after 130pm at the very least.
2. don't bother eating lunch before you board - the buffet line is open with loads of food until almost 4pm
3. make sure you have that nights clothing in your carryon - your luggage may not show up until after 8pm
4. have a light sweater or jacket with you - sail away is breezy and the dining rooms chilly
5. ALL luggage goes through a TSA check point, like at the airports. The difference is they don't care about liquids. (this is my experience from Florida, California, and Barcelona)
6. if you are bringing wine, liquor, soda, water etc - YOU HAVE TO CARRY IT the porters are NOT ALLOWED TO MOVE FOOD PRODUCTS.
7. if you are a "hat" person - make sure it has a way of being secured to your head!!

I hope this all helps.

I was at the NYC terminal when the Fantasy came into port there. I was happy to see that the security system is set up to handle a large crowd. In Florida there are 2 screening machines, California had 3 the last time I was there. They had 5 in NYC. The area behind the machines (where I was not allowed to go) was much smaller than in Florida or California - so I am guessing folks will be held outside of security.

As far as formal - yep - we are all out! Michael always has a tux, and hunny and I are planning on fancy dresses and serious heals! And no you would not be out of place, many people choose not to be "formal" simple cruise casual is acceptable as well.

Keep asking questions - someone else might want the same info and be lurking!!

djm24309???

Looking for djm24309????

DeAna - where are you???? I need your cabin number for the FE list please!!! It closes next week!!

We've sailed out of NY on Carnival (2 times), Norwegian (2 times), and Celebrity (1 time) and boarding has always been handled very well! So, I'm hopefully that with Disney it will be the same!

Jenn:)

Hi Jenn: This is open to much discussion, and everyone has their own personal way of handling it. We've cruised often, and the more we cruise, the less we take. So, DH and I tend to make it special without making it fancy. For instance, he'll wear khakis or trousers with a nice shirt: no tie, no coat. I'll wear a simple dress, or skirt/top. Nothing fancy. Easily packable. You can feel fee to dress up as much as you like or as little. Definitely no shorts, though. There will be a couple of people with tuxes, some with suits, but mostly just nice shirt (and some ties) for the guys. We like to be comfortable, and keep it simple, while making is special too. (and easily packable!!) :flower3:

We have a celebration for the celebration list. My daughter, Emma, is turning 7 during the cruise on May 31st.

Thank you so much for all of that info. We are newbies to cruising in general. I appreciate the tips about what to have in our carry-ons because I didn't know that the luggage might be that late! Thinking we will go cruise casual for the formal nights. My DH & DS are not going to be interested in suiting up!

Mornin' everyone!!

Wow!! What a crazy weekend..

I had my first Tastefully Simple hosted party, was a good turnout, few more orders would have been nice, hehe..

Saturday was a lot of running around and yesterday was a 3 1/2 hour cookie booth for girl scouts plus softball practice for Caitlin for almost 2 1/2 hours.

I'm shot, I'm surprised I'm awake right now...

On happier notes, it's getting close!! :woohoo:

I made a ressie for Atlantis with Phyllis, but still deciding if we want to go, i'm not cancelling the ressie just yet. I have the Sheraton/Wyndham option which I can fall back on.

Spening $625.00 isn't in the cards right this second for Atlantis, esp when my daughter probably won't do the slides .. dont think I will either.. but I'm still open to go.

Okay - off to get Cate up for school.

Have a good day!

Thanks for the input. I ran it by my husband and I got a look of death when I suggested he and my 5 y/o son might need to wear suits. They will both be in khakis. I am going to try my hardest to pack light so I don't want to pack suits and fancy dresses anyway. Maybe next cruise!

Just happen to check out this thread...Haven't done it in quite a while. This is looking to be a very full cruise ship.::yay:

I have a few questions for all of you who have cruised before - #1 - how soundproof are the rooms? I was away a couple weekends ago and had to have my room changed at 2am due to really thin hotel walls and really loud, drunk neighbors. #2 - How do you pack light for a 9-day cruise with formalwear, semi-formalwear AND Pirate night AND the FE gifts???? There are 4 of us and I feel like I would be lugging 3 XL suitcases and carry-ons with all of that stuff! How much luggage do you use? And is there enough storage in the staterooms for all the empty luggage?

Not too bad - I have heard my neighbors only a few times. The hallways can be a little noisy if you are near the elevators. The laundry rooms can also cause some minor issues (deck 2 & 6). I understand the worst place on the ship is aft - the galley's are all back there and they start chopping and cooking at 2am! I know one person who changed her cabin because of it - she is a very light sleeper and was pretty annoyed.

LOL - 9 days is easy - try 23 or more!!! That being said - every piece of clothing multitasks. I take ONE nice dress with a couple of wraps to change it up also LOTS of jewelry to make it different. I use slacks and tops to fill it out. For my 15 day Hawaii cruise I am taking:

9 unmentionable tops
2 dresses (one fancy, one simple)
1 jammie set
20 unmentionable bottoms
pirate costume (jewelry weighs 4 pounds :scared1:)
6 pr shoes (crocs, dressy, flip flops, sneakers, ankle boots that double for pirate gear)
2 pr shorts
2 pr capri
2 dressy slacks
2 casual slacks
3 pr trouser socks
4 pr regular socks
1 bathing suit & coverup
2 t-shirts
2 collared shirts
1 polo shirt
2 fancy tops
1 undershirt (for pirate costume as well)

plus the usual stuff - my oops bag (contains all the tiny things one needs), medications, toiletries (no soap or shampoo or lotion - they give us that)

that about covers it. I can get all that in one checked bag with a small bit in the carryon bag. I have decided to NOT take my computer for the first time...so that is a bit easier!

Does that help?

I use one checked, one carryon and a small bag to carry my bear in. When traveling with my computer - that has it's own bag. Yes, luggage fits under the bed without issue. There is space for about 6 bags if you nest them into 3 sets. If not - you can most likely get 3 or 4 under the bed, and two in the closet.

My traveling buddy Michael brings NO LESS THAN 6 bags for all his clothing...I have to grab the hangers before he does!!! We didn't have any issues in the Baltic or Alaska with the luggage...it works out. We have used the balcony for storage of all the other stuff he brings as well.

That certainly does! I can't believe you get all of that (6 pairs of shoes?!) into one checked bag. I have to learn how to pack properly. I am leaving my laptop home too - my goal is to make this trip electronic-free. Do they supply the normal hotel size shampoo and conditioner? I like my brand and was wondering if I should bring it or not. Decisions, decisions!

Ick!! Went bathing suit shopping, 3 stores, didn't like anything.

I have 2 bathing suits from over the years, they'll have to do .. this is too stressful! LMAO!!

Maybe if I was able to stick to my diet for the next 8 weeks :D
