May 24, 2014 Alaskan 9 night Wonder

Ok.... I am caught up, you people are fun!!!

I should have been taking notes, but just a few thoughts while it is all fresh in my mind.

Sorry for those that will miss pirates night, we will join your private pirate party if you want to dress up anyway. I will say, on our last Alaska cruise, I heard lots of rumblings of guests not liking pirates in Alaska : (

To those with little ones wondering what you were thinking cruising with a toddler or small child? I say brilliant move! DCL has amazing kids clubs, you will have a great trip. (With or without the clubs really, but kids tend to love the clubs)

I am both a FB and DIS user and really hope we can keep the group together. Especially for FE and the meet. I know my Fantasy cruise in October seems to be keeping the peace, so far at least...

I see a few couples from our September cruise on this one as well... Alaska was THAT great!!!!!

To the poster that is worried about not seeing bears.... Sign up for the hike with the bears! lol We did it with our then 10 year old and it was amazing, best photos of the trip. We saw dozens, mamas and cubs.

Anyone worried about packing and the cold, drop me a line. We travel a lot and I am usually obsessed with fairly light packing. Alaska and a cruise worried me as I run cold in winter. (Auto immune thing) I got it down to a science, not much different from how I stay warm while outside at home, but packing it gets creative. No stress, just fun.

Lastly, to the poster whose daughter wants to work for Disney as a performer, I worked at Disneyland as a parade dancer and character for years. I still have friends working there. We will seem ancient to your daughter, but I could likely put her in contact with someone "young."

See why I like DIS boards? All these distractions and rambling switching of topics.... :goodvibes

That's so nice to hear! I must admit I breathed a small sigh of relief when I read that you had cruised to Alaska before and are planning on going back with a 20 month old! Welcome to the group!

Hello everyone. I was booked on the first day but didn't decide to look at the meet threads till today. And whoa! We're on page 27 already?! :cool1:

It is going to be me and my husband. We were supposed to go this May. Cancelled that as it was more important for us to go vacation with family this year. We are going to Orlando and going on the Dream this November, treating my parents and aunt.

I am also contemplating on booking the California Coast cruise before this one. That would be exciting. But also dependent on whether I keep my second job and husband finds another job that is more flexible.

We are joining the FE for sure though! :cool1:

Thank you!

Btw, it's going to be me, Alexandria (26) and my husband, Ranuel (29) at the time of sailing.

:cool1::cool1::cool1:

You and I need to have a chat :lmao:

First I agree the kid's club rock. Mine did not want to come out. Not sure how the 16yr will do this time :confused3

Packing for the cold, yeah, I'm alittle stressed over it. I don't have cold weather stuff. I'm from FL and DH somehow has convinced Unlce Sam to keep us in warm weather climates:upsidedow Somehow, I'll figure it out. Probably take DH shopping or go thru his gear. IF you see someone with green underarmour on :wave2:

Parade dancer :scratchin Yes, we need to meet up. I think my DD needs to have a chat with you and anyone else you would be willing to put her in touch with. DD and her best friend's goal in life is to work for Disney :cool1:

The only reason I'm not on FB cause DD does not know we are going on said cruise. I just love planning surprises for kiddos.

My motto: I'm certifiable :rotfl:

Back to drinking my morning coffee and getting chores done, eye dr appointments today

:offtopic:;)Totally off subject but I wanted to say Thank You :worship: for the thread about fav souviners from Alaska cruise. I have some great ideas for shops and things to buy::yes::

You are most welcome. I am always worried I will miss out on something and since Alaska isn't someplace I get to often (never before) I figure that I better make the most of my shopping time while I am there.

Maybe we will get some more ideas from those that are sailing to Alaska this summer. :goodvibes

I hope so. I am a sucker for Christmas ornaments or anything Christmas:rolleyes1 We need, more like want to, bring something back for our landlord. Being a good visitor in Japan type thing;) He and his wife are super sweet and loves the kids.

:welcome:Better late than never, I always say!

Hi All!! We are on the May27 Alaska cruise leaving in a couple of weeks. Just got my May issue of Sunset magazine and on page 32 is a beautiful four page article about [you guessed it!] SITKA! I am so excited for all of you that will get to visit this charming place. Be sure and check out this article by a native of Sitka and happy dreams of a fun cruise! Aloha, Karen and Ron:cheer2:

Ooo cool! Thanks! I think my parents still get Sunset!

Enjoy your trip. I can't wait for ours. Seems so far away! I have 3 days until our 3 nighter but I've been dreaming of the Alaska trip for awhile now!

Well, we've "downgraded" from deck 6 to deck 2, I happened to check the DCL site the other day and noticed a cheaper price for a category 11C vs the 11B we had already booked and our TA changed our reservations so now we're saving $$$!! Hopefully being under the night clubs doesn't keep us up but DH and DS like to sleep with background noise, and I might sleep better knowing what we saved covered the cost of at least one of our Vancouver flights, lol!

Anyways, I had already signed up for the FE how do I change my room #? I figured out (I think) how to do this on the roll call but I'm not sure if that goes for the FE as well? We are 2513 now. Thanks!

We're back! Had a bit of excitement with 2 tornado's in New Orleans and torrential rain and flooding in Key West, but all in all a GREAT time was had by all.

I have a question about Paid in Full date. I booked this cruise online and my PIF date was originally March 10th. After booking online (to get the discount and OBC) my PIF is now Jan 24th. When I asked my TA why the change, she said she asked DCL and they said when DCL sails from a foreign port (Vancouver) the PIF date is 120 days. So my question is, does everyone have Jan 24th as their PIF? Does anyone know if this is some new rule that was implemented?

:scratchin Interesting. My paperwork (I booked via phone with DCL and transferred to TA) shows March 10, 2014 as my PIF date. However, cruise cancellation fees begin on January 25, 2014.

Since we're Silver CC members, we will be paying in full before March 10th. However, my AAA paperwork has a March 4th PIF date and my DCL paperwork still has March 24th. But, as I mentioned, cancellation fees start 120 days out on January 25th.

We also booked back in February, if that makes a difference.

MouseauMob and Katiefried, are you Platinum CC members?

I've sailed with DCL almost 40 days, half of which in suites, but I'm a Silver CC member just like if I had sailed a single 3 day. I would have done better to book 2 connecting cabins rather than the suites, since then they would have given me double credits, even though price and space of a suite is more than two cabins. :furious:
But it's not like that's a sore subject with me or anything :lmao: I should probably give warning before I go off venting :duck: - sorry about that.

:duck: Sorry I asked? Seriously, I was just curious because January 24th is the 120 day mark for Platinum members to check in and book stuff.

Our PIF is 1/24 also with cancellations fees on 1/25. We can book things at 2/23.

I thought the PIF was tied to when you booked, had a year to pay off the cruise :confused3

:cool1:376 days :cool1:

Well, I'm not going to risk it and will have my cruise paid off by 1/24. Even though I can't book anything until 2/24 as well. :goodvibes

PIF date is set to number of days before your cruise, not when you booked. Contrary to popular belief, not everybody books their cruises more than a year out. ;)
