We arrived home a week ago on Saturday from a long WDW trip.

Cast of characters: me, DH, my youngest DD (my wheelchair user with multiple disabilities), my mom
My yougest sister and her daughter joined us for the first 5 days, then had to get back to reality while the rest of us stayed at WDW.

Our home for our stay: OKW, which is our DVC home resort. We were in a 2 bedroom lock off unit for the first 5 days, then downsized to a 1 bedroom for the rest of our stay. Both rooms had roll
in showers.

First time renting a Rehab rolling shower chair from Care Medical for our stay. While it was not as nice as DD's own shower chair, it did do the job and was much easier to shower her than the 2 person situation we need if we are just using the fold down bench that is standard in roll in showers.

Found out 2 things I didn't know.
1) OKW had a minor renovation to the main feature pool in February and now has a handicapped lift for getting guests with disabilities in and out of the pool. If you need it, ask at Hanks and they will get it out and set it ip for you. The weight limit for the lift is 350 pounds. We did not use it, but may next time.
The CM said it is the same as tne one at SSR.

2) Dumbo now has one transfer car (?elephant). A wheelchair dies not fit inside like Aladdin, but the whole side open up for an easier transfer. It's still a low transfer, but at least it is easier than trying to scoot DD in thru the small door opening. I think the last time she rode Dumbo was when she was about 7 and it took 3 of us to get her in. So, this was much improved.
Pictures to follow (would I pass on a chance to take pictures of a ride car?? No way!!)

Best meal was at Tusker House in AK. A buffet with many delicious and unusual choices. I would NOT recommend it for anyone with peanut allergies though. There was a large and messy tub of peanut butter on the kids menu table for make it yourself peanut butter sandwiches.

Sue- can't wait to see your photo of the Dumbo ride car- what a nice enhancement! We'll be checking in at Jambo House next Sunday for 5 nights ( using DVC points- 1 bedroom concierge villa with roll-in shower). I plan on spending lots of time at the Kidani pool- splash/play area and relaxing in the lounge and villa with my grandkids watching the animals as it's so darned hot out right now. With the limited concierge DVC villas at least I know the one with the roll- in shower faces the savannah.---Kathy

Sue--Do you know if any of the other resorts have the lift for the pools?
Also, we just got back from a trip to the ASMu-the roll in showers there do not have a shower bench or shower chair. We found this out the hard way last August. DD wheelchair is not made for the shower-quickie with the 3 inch gel seat. I requested a shower chair for this trip and special needs provided one. She would not be able to sit in her chair for a week if I showered her in it.:rotfl2:

I don’t have time to look right now - have to get DD to bed.

But, there are pools that are zero entry - they have a ramp to get into the pool and have a water wheelchair you can use to go into the pool.
These resorts have zero entry pools:
Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas – Jambo House, Uzima Springs Pool
Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas – Kidani Village, Samawati Springs
Caribbean Beach – Old Port Royale
Contemporary Resort – Bay Lake Tower, Bay Cover
Grand Floridian Resort and Spa – Beach Pool
Disney’s Polynesian Resort – Nanea Volcano Pool
Sarasota Springs Resort and Spa – High Rock Springs

PS - My DD also has a 3 inch gel seat for her wheelchair. We have given her a sort of ‘seated chair bath’ in it and even washed her hair in it (requires strong people, some plastic bags and a LOT of towels!)
If the roll in shower does not have a fold down seat, the resort needs to provide a shower chair or bench.

Was FL cooler then MN? :) Got to love the heat wave (I'm south of the metro area in MN)

I really appreciate your posts. I have found a lot of helpful info.

LOL
Actually, the ‘cold snap’ in FL ended just as we arrived.
We were afraid it would get cold again, so we packed WAY too many clothes (and didn’t need any of the warm things because it got really hot while we were there).
