so I'm joining into this a little late, but my husband and I are booked in a deluxe inside room on this sailing. We are DVC members, and this will be our first trip "home" using our points and also our first time on DCL. We're super excited! We will be flying into Vancouver at 12:43 am on sunday May 20 so we can explore Vancouver and so I can get my Timmy Ho's fix (Tim Horton's to those who don't know). After the cruise we'll be staying in Seattle for about 2 days to explore there as well. I can't wait! 18 days until I fly out of the desert!

What are all you ladies planning to wear to dinner? Normally I would wear capris and nice sandals, but is that going to be appropriate in Alaska?

Hi Leslie,
We have not been to Alaska before, so I don't know if it is different, but on our other cruises we have worn dress slacks or skirts for regular dining and a little bit nicer dresses for formal and semi-formal night. We're not really formal people, so distinguishing between formal and semi-formal for us could mean using eyeshadow :-) We plan to use this scheme for the Alaska trip.

Welcome!! We are getting very excited too. All of a sudden 2.5 weeks doesn't seem like long enough to get ready! :-) We are flying into Vancouver on the 19th and out of Seattle on the 29th, so you are going in a day after and leaving out a day after we do. Our flight into Vancouver is an American Airlines flight that gets us in about the same time as you get in, but a day earlier :-) What is Tim Hortons? :-) I've been to Vancouver only once and that was about 10 years ago, so I don't remember very much about it. Basically all I remember was that I loved buying things because everything was on sale and when they did the currency conversion at about 66%, it was REALLY on sale! That will NOT be the case now :-(

I read a TR from last year, the Disser said that she had heard that Alaska was more casual but didn't find that on the cruise.

As I don't get to dress up much I will put on a dress most nights on the cruise.

I was thinking more in terms of too chilly for capris and sandals as opposed to dressy v. non-dressy.

I think Disney will keep the cruise ship at a nice temperature, at least I hope so.

I've read a couple of trip reports that said inside the ship is almost short-sleeve comfortable (although the staterooms tend towards chilly), but that you want to carry a jacket because if you step outside it's cold.

We're planning on jeans for daytime and slacks for in the evening and lots of layers!! ::yes::

I talked to a friend of mine yesterday who went on an Alaskan cruise last year in early June. She said to be sure to take lots of layers and not to forget the rain coats! :-)

Do we need to have Canadian currency for Vancouver and Victoria? Our daughters are flying in seperately and need to buy train tickets & taxi rides.

Yeah I'm planning on jeans or REI zip off hiking shorts (maybe with long undies underneath) for during the day. Once I get cold, I will never get warm so I'm going to the warmer side of clothes. As for at night... I don't know yet. I have 2 dresses that I think look OK and uhm maybe the shorts with the legs attached for dinner on the non formal nights? I just don't want to (nor have time to) go buy a bunch of new clothes that won't fit for very long as I lose the baby weight again!

Hey This is our first cruise and first DCL so we are way behind the cursive. Is it possible to join the FE group? If not I understand it is really late.

Thanks Heather

If you want to send me your info - I can add it to the add-on list. We can not guarantee who still has extras but you might be surprised :)

I know you can't send PMs yet but you can post the info here. Check out the first page.

Welcome!

Just got off the phone w/DCL and her the list of movies she gave me:

Toy Story 3
African Cats
Pirates of the C: OST
Cars 2
Winnie the Pooh
Real Steel
The Muppets
War Horse
John Carter Chimpanzee
The Avengers
and one other...can't read my own writing!

Contrary to what others have been told by DCL this CM said that there won't be a Pirate Night on any AK trip this season. Just repeating what I was told:confused:

See ya real soon!! :yay:

Thanks for the film list :thumbsup2

I'm not actually bothered if there is a pirate night.

I'm looking at the absence of a Pirate Night as an opportunity to pack less....or maybe I'll bring more shoes ;)

I just hope that if there really isn't PN no one planned their FE gift around it.

Hi Heather-

A Lil Pixie Dust is right - we can add you, but I know some people have been working on their projects for a while and may not have extras. Others will, though, and will be happy to share - so if you're ok with that, we'll add you to the FE list! If you'd like you can e-mail me your info at mrp4352@yahoo.com since you can't send PMs yet...

Oh, and welcome to the Disboards! :cool1:

We did :rotfl2: but that's okay - we can eat the evidence if need be. Actually - since I haven't made them yet - I probably won't. We were making chocolate pirate suckers. I have all the chocolate but I can always use it for something else and go with plan B. no sense bringing them if there is a chance there is no PN.

We were told that there just isn't fireworks. I am fine either way... I don't really dress up - just a pirate t-shirt and jeans.
