May 2016 Car Rentals

Just paid $87 for a 7 day compact rental MCO-MCO with the $50 coupon and AS1. May 12-18.

Until this week rates I was getting were like $283. Don't know why they dropped so much, but cancelled our reservation we had through undercover tourist for that amount.

Take a look at this post. The TB1 code is related to Vegas Brazil and AS1 with Global Business Travel Service. Both are South American travel companies.

YOu are getting the CDW because of the Product Code, not because of your affiliation with Alamo Insiders.

Thank you. I redid the booking without the tb1 and the CDW was removed with the price difference only $6 more. I did log in with Alamo INsider but used my annual passholder contract code. Can I still use the kiosk and go straight to the car or will I have to visit the counter? (Have used National in the past because I really liked the straight to the car option but prices are too high)

You should be able to use the kiosk or even checkin online and then go straight to the car.

I'm sorry. I am so behind in posts. I read back through many but not sure what the AS1 code is???

All I know, is combined with my Alamo Insiders log in, WDW AP discount code, plus the $50 coupon code......and the AS1 code brought me down from $215 with Dollar to $128 with Alamo (standard car) from May 18-25. WOW!!!! What is the AS1? Will I have any issues booking with it?

AS1 seems to be associated with a South American travel agency Global Business Travel Service. Like TB1 is associated with Vegas Brazil.

Just a warning....I belong to the April rental thread too (picking up in April returning in May) and someone just posted that upon returning her car the $50 coupon was not included in her final receipt. She had to pursue the coupon fee by calling and Alamo said they would credit her. This is worth mentioning since many of us are using it. I had managed to rebook and got rid of the $35 coupon since it now shows it expired in March (after I booked my reservation in April). I replaced it with the $50 one and was uncertain about that one too....seems too good to be true because we don't generally see $50 coupons. I pick up next Saturday the 30th. I'm still on the fence whether I'll pay extra for my favorite National or go with the discount price of Alamo (I'm only using the AP code and the $50 coupon--I passed on the So. Am. product codes and actually got a cheaper price not using them.)

Oh ok....got ya. Sounds a bit risky then? The AS1 REALLLLLY brought price down........has anyone heard if this code has been successful? IOW, not requiring any further requirements at check-in? Thank you

Do you know if that person in the April thread actually had a weekly rental or was trying to use the $50 coupon on a rental of only a few days? It seems that the coupon is for $50 off weekly rentals, but the system allows you to book it for rentals of less than a week.

Did they try to do online check in via the website with Alamo? In March, I was using a coupon ($30 off) that I found here and when I went on the website to online check in to skip the line - it stopped me and told me that I needed to contact Alamo. I did so, and they told me that the coupon that I was using had expired. I just took the coupon off and everything went through. I have a car rented in May using the $50.00 off coupon and have already checked in online and everything has gone through - I have printed the skip the line voucher and I am good to go.

We just got back. We had a standard size booked at Alamo with vegas brazil and $50 insider coupon. Our est rate was $121. We did online check in and picked a malibu from the full size aisle. They handed us a receipt for $180. The $50 coupon was not included. I emailed them and gave them our reservation number and they refunded the $50 to us (to-day) so our total was $130.

UPDATE: I picked up a compact car - Chevy Cruze - which was listed on the rental agreement as an intermediate btw on 4/11 @ 11:30pm. I checked in online and bypassed the counter and went right to the garage, there were tons of cars. I asked the lady that directed me what I would have gotten with the "drive happy deal" she said whatever they have an excess off, ie vans or pick up trucks.... Since I was exhausted and never looked at the rental agreement I got at the exit window.... I had $59 in "savings" that was never taken off my total. So instead of $75 I was being "charged" $134. I dropped the car off yesterday around 6pm and was directed to a manager, who "fixed it" and said I would only be charged $75. As of this morning, my credit card was only charged $58! I am going to keep an eye on it.

I had 2 friends this same week use the above codes in anyway that would get them a cheaper rate (I dont know which exact ones they used). Most used the $50 off, which was not deducted at time of pick up (I had pre warned them about my situation). Everyone was able to get the rate that they were quoted when they booked.

Stand your ground when you pick up your car.

As of this morning, there are more messages arriving. I'm not sure now if I want to hassle with the coupon....

Here's another first hand report.....the coupon for $50 is causing alot of issues.....

Well I used the $50 off coupon a few times this past week with no issues at all but now it seems to be expired. The website will still take the coupon but when you go to the exit booth it will get kicked off the reservation. Even if you did the online check-in and printed your paperwork. I had this happen yesterday at MCO & today at another location. The reservation at MCO was only for 1 day but once I saw it was not on the paperwork and I showed the agent it was on my check-in paper she took the $50 off the reservation for me. Now today I had a reservation for 1 week but the agent at this location would not do anything and just said the coupon was expired & that there was nothing she could do. She even showed me in the system that it said expired but she refused to do any kind of discount & wanted to charge me full price. She said the rates can change all the time & even if the confirmation shows one price that could change by pickup time. Needless to say I took my business to another rental company & got a better rate. So be warned if you still do try to use the coupon it will be expired for sure but depending on the agent they might take the $50 off anyways or you might have to pay full price if you don't have a backup plan.

What a pain! Of course, I cancelled all of my other reservations so the only current one I have uses that coupon. It's weird that they say it is expired because you can still book a new reservation with it. I guess I will start searching for another coupon code just to be safe.

I have a $25 one that seems to be good. I just modified my reservation and replaced the $50 coupon that is causing folks issues and even a report of not being honored with the $25 coupon.

That one is a specialty coupon so doesn't work on all vehicles. Its' AD3868JST. So my rates went up $25+ tax, but if it keeps me from going to the counter and disputing it, especially when one agent even told the renter it expired in 2011, it's worth not spending any vacation time stressing about it. I was happy that I was able to modify and keep the rate I have since the exact rental now is much higher for me. I only used the AP discount and this $25 coupon and got a minivan for 15 days for $403. Still a good deal.

Thanks for the info. I am going to give it a couple of days to see if others have any success using the $50 coupon. If not, I will be modifying to use the $25 as well.

Looking at this from their angle, I know when a banking, insurance or retirement system gives a bad quotes to people they have every right to go back and fix it and even ask for over-payments back. Although the dollar amount for a car rental is significantly less than what we're talking, I imagine car rental companies are no different in that they can zap off bad codes that were applied. It's their car, they can choose who gets it for what price. What they cannot do is quote us a price and then change it just because they don't like the color of the shirt we chose to wear.

However, as a developer, the fact that their system has been accepting old codes is truly unacceptable and indicates how they feel about keeping their systems updated in general.
Any good Hertz codes out there? Been awhile since I've heard them mentioned.

Thanks for the code, do you know the source. I booked a second reservation for a mini van with the $25 coupon. The original rate didn't change, so I didn't have to modify the original. I will cancel out that old reservation with the $50 coupon code if more reports continue to flow in.

When I googled it, it appears to be from carrental website?

I'm not very happy with Alamo tonight and it's probably my own fault. I had modified a rental last week: added 2 days to the reservation and upgraded the car from economy to midsize and was still able to drop $35 off the price. Our flight schedule was changed slightly and I thought I'd check to see what would happen if I changed my drop -off time to 1/2 hr earlier. Since it didn't change at all, I just "cancelled" the changes. My total is now $12 more. :-( I didn't received a new confirmation email either.

I'm getting the error code "Invalid Coupon for the Location" for reservations at SFB with the $50 coupon AD4004JDK. I've never seen that before!

That's strange, it's been working fine for me at Sanford. I just tried it again and it let me.
