May 2, 2014 - A WONDERous trip through the Locks WBPC

What is a roamin' Mickey?

I have a big magnet. We sign it and pass it room to room... Signing and moving it around after you sign it. It's fun to see where it goes. Doesn't cost anything, requires one drop off and watching for it In the hallway!

I'm game!:)

Just keeping it "out here!"

You can send me Cabin numbers if you haven't done so. I will send the full list to participants via private messages by April 2nd. That gives everyone a full month to organize their

PS. Is anyone else waiting impatiently for the rest of 2015's schedule to come out? We really want to do a WBTA cruise in 2015!

As ImDMous said, the Airport is so close to the port that I would not pay for "one stop service" of $49 that someone mentioned for a shuttle. I would and have walked that far just for fun. That walk would take you about 45 minutes I'm guessing though. We often park across the street from the airport and walk downtown to the Port area just because it's such a nice walk. However I enjoy walking long distances and I don't usually do it with a suitcase unless I'm walking home from the airport, which I have also done, so I know I'm unusual :) $14 for two people sounds very reasonable but I do think you could get away with a cab if you don't want to commit to a shuttle, it's very close.

I am getting impatient. I am really hoping for a Baltic cruise. If this does not happen, then I would really like to do both EBTA and WBTA to save on airfare.

I can tick off something else from the list. I managed to book our hotel in Miami this evening. We are staying at the Holiday Inn Port of Miami/ Downtown. We stayed there before our cruise in December and really liked the hotel. I managed to book this with our points. I have requested a high floor with a view of the port. We are normally wide awake at 5:00 AM the first night in the USA and at least this way we can watch the Wonder come into port. We managed to see the Magic come into port in December and that was pretty amazing.

Now I just have to get DH to have a look at excursions and we need to make a decision about our hotel in San Diego. In 2006 we stayed at the Handlery on Hotel Circle and I really liked this hotel. They also offer a shuttle to Seaworld, which is a distinct bonus. I really would like to stay there again. If he does not get involved in the planning process soon I may just go and book this.

If the rumors about Hawaii are true, as long as it's not two one ways from Vancouver. If it's a round trip, or if it doesn't violate the that's stupid US law and can go from Vancouver to Hawaii and then drop off here in CA I am going back on the Wonder to Hawaii.

Ih the rumor of the Wonder going into dry dock this year is true, and becoming too big for the old canal, I don't see the west coast in the near future.pirate:

The Wonder just completed a minor two week dry dock. There will not be another for a bit. So that rumor is not true.

I can't PM until I get more posts with my updated user name (sigh) and I don't have a cabin number yet, but count me in for the candy exchange - I love candy! :)

OMG the Wonder is coming back to Hawaii???? I totally hope so. We will do it, and as I've said before, I'll make the boys go to school the day we're on O'ahu haha.

Well it's not for sure but the signs are there. The Wonder, for a day, appeared in Honolulu on 9/17/15. Then later that night she was gone. That excel spreadsheet was replaced with one titled Honolulu 2015 without Disney. Two days later a Inchscape special was showing on 9/17/15. Well Inchscape is what DCL used for a port agent while in the islands. Then. Week or so ago the same Inchscape Special now appears in the Hilo schedule for 9/13 and 9/20. Hilo lists the length of the ship, passenger capacity and crew. All match the Wonder. Now nothing is set in stone yet but I say there is a good chance it's happening. Still only time will tell

Glad to hear it is a nice hotel. My daughter and I are staying there as well. I booked it on Entertainment hotel bucks, if you have an Entertainment book.

I heard they were putting off the big re-fit till(or just before) the new canal opened. Hence the short dry dock recently in the meantime. Trouble is I think I would prefer the old locks to the new ones but would like to see the new route.

You are correct. They are not going to give the Wonder the major upgrades until they get official Confermation from the canal authority that the new route will be ready to go. I would like I night transit. After six transits in the day I would love to see it all lit up. From what I understand, and I may have heard wrong as I normally do, a ship the Wonders size can not transit in the night time. Still I can wish.

We've book a few and are still looking in Key West. Here is the info, in case others might be interested.

Miami

We're doing the food tour we did back in 2012 of South Beach with Miami Culinary Tours. We loved it so much we're doing it again. This is a great way to see South Beach and learn about its history and architecture, as well as eat some great food.

Key West
We've done the touristy stuff in Key West. Looking for something more off the beaten path. What attracts me about this charter is that they have 65 out of 66 comments on Tripadvisor that are "excellent". Cost of a half day tour is $135/person for up to 6 people. Tour is 9 to 12:30 pm.

Charter Description: Ever wonder where Key West natives go on the water, what they see that the average visitor does not, where all those breathtaking images are shot? Well, Mellow Ventures will take you there. See the most beautiful and remote locations, private beaches, traverse mangrove lined passages through hammocks Where birds and fish abound, fish, snorkel, paddle board, kayak and more. With Mellow Ventures you van create your own experience of a life time.

Cozumel

We've been here several times. We decided to simply go with a relaxing day on the beach. There are several choices - we picked Mr. Sanchos All-Inclusive. I booked through Johann and Sandra, which included the waterpark area (normally $12/person extra/person) for $57/person (versus $67/person booked directly).

Cartagena

Booked the Segway and Culinary Tour with Segway of Cartagena. The cost of the tour is $90 if we can get two more people (otherwise it is $100/person). The tour combines 1.5 hour Segway tour with a two hour culinary experience. Pickup at the pier is at 9:30 am and goes through 1:30 pm.

Puerto Vallarta

We've also been to PV several times and were looking for something different. We decided to do a food and cultural tour with Vallarta Food Tours. We chose the "Tastes of Pitillal" tour as it seems to be more off the beaten path and more authentic. The tour is $49/person for a 3.5 hour walking tour of the Pitillal.
