May 2, 2009~~~Magical MAYniacs!~~~ 7 day Western....Updated, April 3,2009!!

I went ahead and reserved some slots thru DCL, but we can cancel if we figure out a way to accommodate 4 adults in the PPS. :crowded:

Soooo, I booked 3 adults and 1 DS9 for the Push, Pull, Swim at 10:45am; DD6 and myself are scheduled for the Discovery an hour later. This way we can watch the others do the swim, and then DD6 will get her hug/kiss a little while later.

 Ashlotte - we'll probably see you at the park. :wave2:

Unfortunately, I drew the short straw and will not be able to swim with the dolphins. One adult needs to stay with the 6 year old on the platform, while the others are in the water - She is not mature enough to stand by herself. :hyper:

(((( hello )))) (((( echo ))))
Hmmm.. The last 4 posts are from me. Is there anyone else here?

Good morning Magical Mayniacs
We sail in just Lucky 13 weeks!

:dance3: :cool1: :yay: :upsidedow :yay: :cool1: :dance3:

We're almost to single digit weeks!
Reality ought to be setting in - we are going on a Disney Cruise!!!

That is probably where everyone is....working on their cruise stuff!!:confused3

This week has been productive for me, I purchased my underwater camera and received it, and I booked our hotel for the night before the cruise!!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I also have our car rental figured out and our limo rental after the cruise, just need to book them. Perhaps I will do that during the Superbowl tomorrow.

Trip delayed to rescue lost Cubans

Elbert and Audrey Heath were cruising aboard the Carnival Glory when the ship made a three-hour detour and rescued nine Cuban refugees. Someone spotted the Cubans' deflating green raft about a mile from the ship.

The 110,000-ton, 953-foot-long ship then stopped so the crew could throw the Cubans water, food and life jackets. The men had been lost for 10 days, Elbert Heath said Saturday.

Their raft was found late last week about 50 miles west of the tip of Cuba, so they were farther from Florida than when they began their trek.

"We heard them yelling 'agua, agua,' " Heath said.

The Carnival Glory, based at Port Canaveral, then waited for the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Knight Island to take the refugees aboard. The Coast Guard had instructed the cruise ship captain not to bring the men aboard.

That's when the Heaths, snowbirds who spend winters in Cape Canaveral, snapped some photos of the incident.

Once the men were rescued, the Glory's passengers applauded, Elbert Heath said.

"Everyone felt like they had done a good job," he said. "They were meant to be saved by that ship."

The Cubans will likely return to their country, but U.S. Coast Guard petty officer Nick Aveen said that the incident is still under investigation.

Since we cruised once before with DCL, we were able to book some things. We booked Palo brunch for Sunday at 10:30 AM. Grand Cayman, I booked the island tour and butterfly farm, DW is doing the shipwreck and reek snorkeling. Cozumel, I booked the Cozumel highlights and Mayan ruins tour, DW is doing the dolphin push, pull and swim. Castaway Cay DW is doing the extreme getaway package, I will probably rent a bike with her and just check other things out. I forgot to put we are in cabin 2100. SO WE HAVE 90 DAYS!!!!:cool1: pirate:

DW is doing the dolphin push, pull and swim.

I forgot to put we are in cabin 2100.

I updated the list with your cabin number. There are a number of Magical Mayniacs on Deck 2; you are almost directly across from us, but on the other side of the ship (Portside?).

What time is your DW doing the PPS? I signed up for the 10:45am slot.

Oh my Gosh!!! I found our thread way back on Page 3 :rotfl:

Ok..........I can knock two more things off of my list! :cool1: I have our car rental booked (used Dollar) and also our limo back to WDW (with a quick grocery stop) (used Happy Limo)

With only about 87 more days till the cruise, now may be a good time to start thinking about a ...

Seasickness plan. For myself, I have a doctor who will prescribe the Transderm Scope, active ingredient Scopolamine (i.e., a patch). This medicine affects people in different ways; I think it makes me tired :faint: but I can't be too sure because I usually don't sleep well the nite before the cruise (too much anxiety :hyper: ). Nonetheless, I would much rather deal with being a little drowsy than laying in the room throwing up!!!! Others have mentioned that they plan to take Dramamine or Bonine. These also have various affects on people.

Once the ship sets sail, if you start feeling nauseous it may be too late to take your medicine.

I would like to recommend that if you have a chance, find an open day to "TEST" the affect of the medicine of your choice. I know many of us don't have much free time, that is why I am bringing this up now. Try to find a day you can lay down in case the medication makes you very tired.

I can't emphasize this enough - on our first cruise, I saw 2 people who were sick on the first day. On day two, I overheard a lot of people talking about their friends and family who got sick. Last cruise, some Dis'ers spent the first day and a half in their room. I've been seasick before (deep sea fishing) and trust me, it is an awful awful feeling.

In my next post, I'll repeat my recommendations - at least they worked for me.

Oh my gosh...........here we go again, I am worried about the sea sickness thing...:sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

I am heading over to the States probably next week and will be buying some Bonine, DH and I will try it to see what it does.

I guess I could ask the Doctor for something just in case, but that would mean a trip to the DR....hmmmmm?????

With the Bonine, I figured DH and I would start it a few days before our cruise and then continue it until a few days after, hoping that that would keep us in one piece. It will be awful if we are sick!

::yes:: SEA SICKNESS GAME PLAN ::yes::

When discussing sea sickness, we should look at an overall game plan (and not just focus on ginger, medications, or wrist bands). So here are my recommendations, that have worked for me:

MEDS: If you've never taken motion sickness medication, experiment before the cruise. Find out how these things affect you before you get on the ship.
They affect different people in different ways.

When do most people begin to feel queasy? My guess is the first evening. This may not be true for everybody, but I think that most folks need to get their 'sea legs.'

T-1 DAY AND COUNTING: The first move is to take a ginger tablet (or chew) the morning and/or evening before your sail date. If you take it in the morning, take another one before bed. Be sure to eat something with these things, because they will leave a bad taste in the back of your throat. Ginger is supposed to be good for you.

SAIL DAY: Start the day with a reasonable breakfast. Try to avoid anything too heavy or greasy. On this day, I stay away from sausage, bacon, and acidic juices (like OJ or grapefruit juice). Take your ginger tablet with breakfast so you don't get that icky taste in your throat. It's said that you don't want to start your cruise with an empty stomach, but you also don't want to start with your stomach stuffed full. Our stomachs will be stuffed later; why rush it! :)

Next, think about getting your body hydrated. I personally start chugging lots of water. Watch out for beverages that dehydrate you like coffee or tea. I mean, drink it but try not to go overboard (pun intended). If possible, drink your cup(s) of coffee early.

MEDS PRIOR TO EMBARKING: This is where I apply the patch - around 11:30am so it has time to kick in before we set sail around 5pm. If you are taking oral meds, follow the directions accordingly. After we set sail, it is probably too late if you begin to feel queasy and nauseous.

EMBARK: Once you've boarded the ship, choose your lunch food carefully. I've heard that bread is good. Now is a good time to take another ginger tablet. Remember to stay hydrated (H20 - wink). Also, think about other remedies for which you have an interest. For me, I pop in an Altoid from time to time because some say peppermint helps. For others, maybe this is a good time to wear that wrist band.

Next, if you are seriously worried (like me) of getting seasick, then drink alcohol with reason or not at all. Don't get me wrong, I love a beer or 6 ;) , but I'm holding back on day 1. pirate:

BED TIME: I take off the patch before bed. If the seas are real rough, maybe leaving it on is the right move. This is a personal decision/risk. If you are feeling fine, then go ahead and remove it.

In conclusion, most people will be fine with the meds and/or ginger and don't need to go thru such preparations. My game plan is to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. After 4 cruises, so far so good! :thumbsup2

Is that what you have done everytime that you have cruised?

Newsflash for our Northern shipmates.....

I would like to clarify a Myth that it doesn't get cold in Florida.......:beach:

Tomorrow it will be 19 degrees (F not C).......

However.... I must admit this is only a temporary condition...

It will be back in the 70's by this weekend....:rotfl2:

P.S. It is NORTH Florida...........;)

I followed these guidelines exactly the last 2 cruises and I didn't feel the least bit queasy. It may seem to some that I am being a bit A-Retentive, but I've been seasick 3x before (never on a cruise ship), and I don't want to go thru that again. Not to mention, those 7 nites go by fast and I want to try to enjoy every minute of it.

The only drawback is that I drank soooo much water I had to run to the little boy's room every 10 minutes. :scared: Ok, it wasn't THAT bad. :upsidedow

One last thing, I posted a "game plan" because I read a lot of Dis'ers who just write about the meds they are going to take. It doesn't make sense to me to bother taking medicine while eating heavy/greasy food with Orange Juice.

Yeah, I saw that they even closed the water park at WDW because of the cold!!! All I know is that it is going to be nice and warm in May!!!:cool1:

Hi all, I saw 2 different blogs on a recent Western Cruise. One is on all ears net, under blog central and then Laura's Disney Lines. The other is at castawayclub dot com at the top is a link to a blog elsewhere. There is also a link to the navigator in the writing at the top also. I found them helpful to see what is coming up.

Thanks for the tip, Dave. :thumbsup2 I need to look over the navigator to review the best possibilities for Palo nights.

Just booked our first DCL trip.:cheer2:
We have cruised once before but need lots of info for our DCL trip. Have stayed at WDW many times (DVC members) but this is so different. I am sooooo anal when I plan our trips that I need lots of input. We will be at WDW before our cruise which I have no problem planning. Thanking everyone for their input.
