I will not pack "formal" clothes. I wore black dress pants and a nice top on formal night on the Fantasy, and it will work for the Magic as well.

That qualifies as formal! Of course, there will be others who will wear dressier clothes ... some specific clothing items are suggested ... others are not permitted. So far, the ship has not sunk because of what someone wore to dinner ... but their always seems to be heated discussions.

I've trolled the Disney website, our reservation website, and that pre-arrival-guide that Mandy remembered. There's no mention about transfers in Barcelona or hotels.

Has anyone seen Disney information about Barcelona hotels? I seem to recall someone saying that they had not announced them yet. Maybe it's come out by now? I need to book...

Check out The "W" hotel ... visible from the Barcelona port. Not sure if it is on DCL's list ... but it's a nice sight! Prices start at 325 Euros for a standard room for June 1st.

No clue on transfers. Depending on your budget, there are lots of choices. We stayed at Acta Atrium Palace last year, which was near transportation and in a great area. They also offered a cruise discount for those who were cruising. One bed plus sofa bed. Booked an apartment for this year since five of us.

In my opinion, Pirate night on that night is the perfect spot. A way to help people forget we're in the middle of the Atlantic ocean!

this was already answered - but yes all restaurants do formal night on the same night.

It just hit me.... Binkytell had shared a while back about something she saw when logging into her reservation - PreArrival Guide (page ten for me), so I just took a peek:

Saturday - embarkation
Sunday - first formal night (??)
Monday -
Tuesday - Castaway Cay
Wed - at sea
Thurs - at sea
Fri - at sea - PIRATE NIGHT (on my Pre-Arrival Guide)

I am pretty sure they have to do pirate night while near land. They have always been on a port day, in my experience. Something to do with safety!



About dress codes - DCL does have one - they are not militant about it,but will ask folks to change if in inappropriate attire (slogans etc), if the clothing is ripped or torn they may ask the person to change. I have seen the DR manager speak to folks about their clothing choices. I have also seen folks asked to change (the only restaurant I haven't seen this for was Parrot Cay). In Palo, women are not allowed to wear t-shirts either.

On the Podcast cruise, my roommate and I had planned to eat dinner in Cabanas on formal night with other DISers. However, when we informed our server that we wouldn't be eating in the dining room the next evening, she practically begged us to eat there - no matter what we wore!

That had surprised me seeing that as well. Odd they have it in the Pre-Arrival Guide like that, but I'm sure the "subject to change" covers all bases. I saw on a previous EBTA they were the night the ship left Madeira. I'm like you... that safety thing... kind of a little priority!

OMG Pat, we were at that show! SO incredibly funny!! You were famous My DH was pulled up during one of the Alfred and Seymore shows and people were talking to him wherever we went LOL

we (dh Jim and myself Vicky) will be joining you all on the 14 day transatlantic and then 7 day med.... looking forward to meeting new friends. This will be our 6th Disney cruise. We did the Transatlantic back in 2009 to celebrate or 40th Anniversary and this time to celebrate another year and retirement (YEAH) we don't have a cabin assignment yet, because we just booked with a GTY when we were on the Fantasy in Oct. .... looking forward to the R&R... is . there a FE list anywhere.? would like to participate if so. I have a little reading to do...yikes!

The very first fireworks were launched while the Magic was in port at Nassau ... not much *flare* ... only one shot was launched. At the time, DCL wanted the other ships to watch ... in an attempt to entice them to book a future cruise on DCL.

DCL is the only cruise line permitted to launch fireworks. DCL is required to notify all ships within a 200 mile radius of the impending fireworks (flares are an international sign of distress). Sometimes, special cruises will launch fireworks while sitting idle just off port (ie: arrival in Barcelona) ... to garner interest from the locals). Any way ... from what I understand, there is no requirement of being near a port.

Typically, fireworks / pirate night are held on non-formal nights. Since most formal nights are held during sea days ... it's just a coincidence that fireworks are held after departing a port.

Yes, DCL servers want their guests to be happy! If you are wearing something other than jeans, shorts (etc) ... and look presentable ... your should be fine. As you've noted, a pair of black pants and a nice top is an excellent choice for women on formal or semi formal night (s). It's the guys who have far fewer options! Then again, I picked up an inexpensive tuxedo ... bought a few different color ties and cummerbunds (including a Disney cummerbund) ... and feel great. Earlier this year, I picked up a pair of "morning pants" from an online auction, and use them for Brunch at Palo and/or Remy (with a tuxedo vest, and without a tuxedo jacket). I usually get several compliments ... including from the cast members!

We booked the transfers with our travel agent when originally booking the cruise, but after reading your comments we decided to call them to confirm that we did have them - yes no problem.
