May 18, 2013 Magic EBTA Part Two - From Tejas to España

Confirmation from Alma as to why we can't get a Mojito tasting - apparently the "Powers that Be" at DCL had a major meeting and decided for consistency between the ships, that there would be nine different PRIVATE tastings that they'd be allowed to offer. They are as follows:
Champagne
Martini
Beer
Mixology
Tequila and Margarita
Cognac
Whiskey
Wine
Chocolate - BRAND NEW - this is something that DCL has just started offering as a private class - woowoo!

We are trying to get together enough people to schedule the Chocolate class - if you are interested, please sign up on this form - this is only a tentative, as we will need 25 to participate before we can make this a GO! Form is here:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/19Mtvsw38uKxUpgBvQ8hoIOOH8ICDx-UZ7EJlnPK6QxY/viewform

We also received confirmation of our second Mixology class - it is scheduled for May 22nd at 2 PM in Sessions...........I will update my post in the thread here - there is still time for you to sign up, we've only got 19 spots left between the two classes.....

Thanks - if you need to touch base with me, please read my post above as I don't check these posts very often :goodvibes

Well at least we have some clarification on it at last.

She could have added that info in the original email she sent me or even the
2nd email, instead Of "sorry, not offering mojito tasting" lol.

I see lots of disappointed future cruisers with the news of no mojitos

They certainly know how to draw us ladies in, chocolate and alcohol, all signed up

:yay: Just making sure you guys see this!!:cheer2:

BTW - It would really be an added bonus if they had an appetizer-size of chocolate souffle :rolleyes1 You know, so we are not drinking on an empty stomach.

Mandy,

I tried again today and I was on hold for a long time whilst they contacted the Magic at sea, although the CM was not able to confirm the non Disney entertainment at this time. Just to say that DCL Orlando wanted to give the "Ents" program, however it was the CM Navigator editor on board that was unwilling or unable to diseminate the program. I will try again closer to the departure date.

I hope it's something new:thumbsup2

Thanks, Stevie! It will be interesting to see what it will be for the non Disney entertainment.

The DCL shows -- I am always finding myself watching the kids' eyes and holding back my tears. Love seeing the joy on their faces!

A review of chocolate tasting from fellow diser

I did the chocolate tasting in December and it was divine!!

We had a selection of white, milk and dark chocolate (dark 62%, darker 72% and darkest 85%!) and a shot glass of melted white, milk and dark chocolate. We tasted the different chocolates with a variety of wines as well as a glass of whiskey. I was sure those very dark and bitter chocolates would be yucky, but when paired with the different drinks, they were transformed!

It was all amazing and took us all a lot longer to consume than I expected. The flavour combinations were delicious and interesting.

I ate every bite, drank every drop (we even got refills) and even licked out my shot glasses!

I have some photos I'd be happy to share if I had the the faintest idea how to post them!!

That sounds divine!! :cloud9:

I used my Chase Disney Visa to purchase a variety of currency from Wells Fargo online and it was treated as a regular charge. I know NancyIL used another bank's card at Wells Fargo(can't recall which one) and it was treated as a cash advance.
It was Citibank that treated my Wells Fargo foreign currency purchase as a cash advance.
So I have been in contact with this tour company but hadn't booked anything yet (I was still holding out on my sister coming) but realize I need to book it. I was looking at the costs for a group vs. private tour for the
http://www.barcelonadaytours.com/barcelona-montserat/ tour on June 1st.

1. I remember someone mentioning this, is anyone doing it and are you doing private or the group?

2. I was quoted 775 Euro for 9 of us for a private tour, since only 5 of us are going plus the baby now, if we decide to go the private route, would anyone with kids want to join us? We would have a 3 yo and 4 month old on the tour.

3. What is everyone doing in Barcelona? I kinda dropped the ball on this tour....
Vicki and I will spend 4 nights in Barcelona post-cruise. We are doing the half-day Barcelona tour on June 1st as a group tour, so I imagine we will be in the same van as others on our ship. We will go to Montserrat on our own on our last full day in Barcelona.

Which day are you going to Montserrat? We are going on that Monday morning (on our own - no tour).

Oh - to answer Barcelona question from above -- we are DIY post-cruise. Can't check into apartment until 2:00 but can do a bag drop. We are meeting some folks around 10:00 for late breakfast or coffee who are embarking the Magic when we disembark. Hitting the major sights through the weekend, and I have to find about 6 hours to focus on work for month-end (sigh).

We will go to Montserrat on Tuesday, June 4. Maybe we will run into you and your family over the weekend! :)

Be sure to sign up if you're interested.....this class will be a go.....we've already got 19 signed up......yummy.......and fun! Although I'll probably have to pass off the whiskey to DH, I'm just not a whiskey kind of girl....Lol

Montserrat--
A couple of years ago my husband and I went to Montserrat for the day. We took the train and had a grand time. Be sure to arrive in time to hear the boys' choir.

This time we will be in Barcelona for only one day with our grandson (8), so we are doing a walking tour designed for families with Runner Bean Tours.

Barcelona is an easy place to navigate on your own. We used Spain Day Tours (Barcelona Day Tours is part of this company) for tours in Seville and Granada and were pleased with them.

Planning on Magic Fountain on Saturday night and Picasso/Chocolate museums on Sunday. Other major tourist attractions sprinkled throughout. :thumbsup2

That's our definitely plan! :) Now if I am sure to get the other four out of bed early enough.....

Documents came for the cruise!

Yay!! No docs here for us yet.

DH was also interested in the chocolate alcohol tastings!:goodvibes. He really enjoyed the Grand Marnier tasting session at Epcot, so he thought he would give this a try! I go for most things chocolate!:goodvibes

Planning on Magic Fountain on Saturday night . . .
I was pleased seeing the Magic Fountain. It was more impressive than I expected.

It gets crowded, so be sure to take the usual precautions against pickpockets.

Just a little word of warning for those who are heading to Paris after the cruise.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-22098102

Also beware around the Las Ramblas area, it's "gangs" of eastern europeans migrants and they are expert in removing items from you. It happens all over the world, however I had a friend who managed to catch them at it on the Paris metro from robbing her father, however they got away with the lot.

Some tips given to me were, when on a bus or tube was to take a seat, it's harder to take wallets etc whilst seated and keep any bag or wallet away from the people standing in the open bus/tube.

Hope this doesn't happen to you, however I have seen an upset traveller explaining it to DCL at Barcelona. Forewarned is forearmed.:crowded:

no docs for me in Chi today..:worried:

As far as Spain, after the cruise...we have 4 days in Spain..
Since we did HOHO last time, I missed the Magic Fountain, Picasso museum, chocolate museum. I want to go to Girona, and Dali Museum - Figueres.. I am going on the train and on our own..

I've signed up. I mean chocolate and alcohol - what more can you want? :rotfl:

Well, it IS a go - I just got home from work and checked - we've got 28 people signed up - I will get with Alma tomorrow about the date/time/place, but won't hear back for a few days, I am sure.

Great job y'all! :dance3::dance3:
