May 18, 2013 Magic EBTA Part Two - From Tejas to España

Hi, All!

Just booked the EBTA! Yay! Me, DH, DS (6), DS (5), and DD (3) are not at all prepared. Need to catch up on the DIS posts. We are moving to Switzerland and this is how we are getting there so we are very busy. Looking forward to the FE. I'm not sure what our item will be but the kids love giving and receiving.

Wow! Now that's cruisin' in style!!! Welcome!:wave2:

Well, it turns out that by changing our dining from late to early we will no longer be linked with DISers :guilty:. All the names had already been turned in to DCL. We switched from late to main and our reservation became unlinked (which totally makes sense) but since the other names have already been turned in it's too late to add us to the early linking

I'm bummed that we won't be with anyone, but at least i know I enjoy my family :goodvibes. We really just felt that late dining wouldn't work for us. I wish we'd figured it out before the names had all been submitted.

I know we'll still see you all and still ahve a fantastic time, I just blew it on this part of the planning.

Post # 1 calendar updated to include Stateroom Tour date and time :)

Thanks, MandyGirl!:littleangel:
For all of you great souls who have agreed to show your category of cabins aboard, or for those who have asked to be included, we will be Cabin Cruising on Friday, pirate: 10AM (Pirate's night), the seventh day at sea. That will give y'all another week to be better informed should you wish to book a cabin category on a new cruise. We will be gathering just outside of Quiet Cove on Deck 9, forward at 10 sharp and walking down the levels from there. LMK if you need more info. Thanks!

Okay, okay. I *know* the Til We Meet Again Luncheon isn't the most exciting event (and as was mentioned previously, is actually a sad thing to have to organize haha), but I only have 14 adults and 7 children signed up so far, and four of those people are my family!

I know there are more SM folks out there at least!

Yvette, how many SM in all?

Could you please add our family as well!! 2 adults, 2 children!!

John and I have been numerous cruise with other lines but this will be our 8th cruise with DCL. I love the longer cruises so it is taking us FOREVER to become platinum!!

What other cruise lines you been on? I think the rating of gold/platinum etc should be done on the number of nights rather than number of cruises even if the days are higher. Means people who do the longer ones are not penalised

I hear ya! At the end of this cruise, I will have 50 nights on DCL and will just be Gold but what can I say, I love the longer cruises so it is worth it to me.

I agree; it is totally worth it. I wold keep going. Regardless of rating xx

I'm throwing myself into the debate ;-)

I would say don't base it on how many cruises:
Because of what was said eatlier 99 nights and 30 nighs...

I also would say don't base it on nights:
Because i did 3 night cruises for the same amount what i paid for the EBTA 14 nighter.
If you do it by nights then i can get 14 nights for the same money, not fair either.

My suggestion and also the most honost one is:
Base it on $ amount spend for the cruise.
Every $ is a point or whatever so that way if you do cheap cruises or always discounted cruises you get what you paid fir and if you always cruise suites you get earlier what you paid for...

I like this idea; seems fair

I'm just doing the final list for the candyswap - if anyone else would like to join in could you send me a PM ASAP.

Thanks

Paul

Welcome aboard!! :thumbsup2 I believe we have another family onboard who is in the process of moving to Europe as well. On our WBTA in 2011 we had a couple moving from Europe back to the DC area while all of their belongings were in transit -- definitely the way to go! Please be sure to add to the rollcall link found in post one, as well as any other info you need to see on the first page. :)

I was a little disappointed to see that the EBTA is likely to have the Villains Tonight show. Is it only me that doesn't like this show?

It's not my favorite, but since one in our family cruising with us has never been on DCL, I appreciate she will have the chance to see it on one of our 14 nights onboard. When there is a show for the main show I don't think will appeal to our family, we just find something else onboard to do during that time. We skipped several shows on our 14-night cruise previously. Being during dinner/show we have less people roaming the ship at that time. :goodvibes

Well, it turns out that by changing our dining from late to early we will no longer be linked with DISers :guilty:.

Once you embark in Galveston, go to deck 3 forward if that is where they have dining request changes. Get a few names/cabins in advance to see if you can put in an onboard request. I have changed once onboard and been accommodated. :thumbsup2

Thanks, MandyGirl!:littleangel:

No problemo!! :)

Well, I gave up on Air Canada replacing that flight they cancelled on me. I had "temporarily" settled for a 5am departure on the 17th from here to Toronto but that's such a yucky flight. Done it all too often. Ruins you for days.

I just called them up and got them to change me to a evening flight to Toronto on May 16th. Now we'll overnight in Toronto and catch our 8:30am flight AC8109 in the morning feeling nice and rested.

Anyone else in Toronto on the evening on the 16th?

Aww... Or perhaps you just didn't want to sit next to me (just kidding of course). I swear I wasn't going to steal your desert more than once. :lmao:

Perhaps you'll be able to do something on board. Maybe the boat won't be very full and we can sit wherever we want? (Kidding, I assume that never happens)

That would make me feel better as well (if it were me flying). Just in case of having a backup plan on your shorthaul flight if it got cancelled or something, you have the AM flight as a backup. :goodvibes

I got a PM from another cruiser who hadn't gotten around to signing up for the linked dining. We're trying to figure out how are families will mesh. So we might have a family to link with :thumbsup2

::rotfl:

We might need to see if we have the same rotation at the very least ::yes::

Yay! :cool1: For 14 nights, it's a gamble, but we were happy with our gamble in the past linking with two other families we had never met. :thumbsup2

On the Hawaii cruise that I took with my BFF Nancy, we had signed up to be linked with DISers but we were not seated with ANYONE else but she and I at a table for 8l Never did figure out why but we people watched all through dinner and it was quite interesting.
