May 18, 2013 Magic EBTA Part Two - From Tejas to España

Hi everyone,

I've come to a bit of a difficult decision today, I'm stepping away from this thread. I don't want to start anything else again but having read what was said over the weekend and what I've heard about what happened on FB a while back it is just a decision I have come too. I'm sorry to do this as I know I was arranging the PJ breakfast and pin trading events which I was SO excited about but my heart is not in anymore. I've been thinking about this since I read the posts from the weekend and wanted to post it before binkytell gets the FE groups sorted again.

Goofynewie, if you need my access back for the events I created on the website please PM me and let me know.

Please can you also remove my name and stateroom number from all events?

Thanks very much and enjoy the cruise everyone.

Sorry to see you go. :sad1: Enjoy your cruise.

Morning Everyone,

Whilst looking out of the garden this morning on the snow, this cruise and my trip to Venice can't come quick enough. I was wondering given the popularity of the events in which alcohol plays a part in:rotfl2:, who are looking to buy the DCL wines packages, on some occasions I love the wines and on others it was dire.

I am currently swithering as I normally do buy the package, however I might buy a seven day package and then bring some wine bought in Madeira for other nights. Or was suggested to me just arrive with a glass.

I hear ya stevie:worried:

No snow down here in glasgow but I've been stuck inside with a sick child
Last few days and I'm going stir crazy:crazy2: holiday planning keeping me occupied.

We haven't done wine package before but I'm thinking about it for this cruise, I've no idea how it works, if you like a particular wine can you choose that one again? I like a glass :scratchin wine with my dinner but I don't want to lug bottles of wine on ship, I need my bottles of spirits to keep me going for the 2 weeks.

The wine packages are just that - you prepurchase wines from a specific list (premium or regular) you can choose the same bottle every day if you wish! You can use more than one bottle in a day, or carry the remainder to the next day. They will move the bottle to the next dining room (or Palo if you tell them the night before). You can NOT use wine at lunch however. The bottles are for dining rooms only. (I have been able to take a partial bottle back to the cabin, I just asked really nicely!)

I have the list and prices - if anyone wants it - post here and I will see if I can figure out a way to cut and paste it.

Cayla

PS: as a comparison I use Conundrum on DCL it is 50.00 at CostCo it is 21.00. Banfi Rosa Regala is 55.00 on DCL and 23.00 at a local wine shop and as low as 12.00 online occasionally.

Thanks cayla, I would like to see prices if you have them.

Do you go with wine package?? Is it recommended or would you bring your own.

I'm no wine connoisseur but I do enjoy a glass of red, if its bleurghhh I can't drink it just because its paid for !!

Morning All,

Cayla is exactly right the wine package is totally flexible, if you have one glass out of the bottle each night until it's finished then thats fine. You can have 2 bottles open at the same time. One thing I would say is that I have used a bottle in the theatre during the show, for medicinal purposes only. In fact on one cruise, our server told us we had run out of bottles, strange I thought, only to find out our tablemates and very good friends were drinking our package.

Sarah, A word of worning: DCL does not stock Buckfast Tonic Wine, which people from Glasgow are known too drink:rotfl2: (local joke)

Afternoon Everyone,

Is anyone doing the Blandy's winelodge tour on Madeira on the EBTA, I have walked past the door a couple of times before, however I was think that I might go straight to the Monte via the cable car, a great ride if you haven't done it before, then stop for a coffee then back down to surf at the great wifi spots on the high street and then something else, which I was thinking maybe Blandy's Winelodge tour?

Does anyone have any other suggestions or info about Blandy's. I do like a glass of port.pirate:

All the prices and wines included inthe packages you can gind it under gifts section on the DCL website.

I think we are just going to be bringing our wine onboard instead of buying a package. I am not a big wine drinker and don't need a glass with dinner so I am guessing we will bring a few bottles onboard and have a glass before dinner with our cheese platter.

not that were alcoholics :rolleyes1 at all, we just know to not pass up a bargain :cool1:
:rotfl:

We are using Disney Air and got our air info today!!! If you are using them you may want to call.
I am so glad you posted that on FB! I got our info today :cool1:

Oh no!! So sad. :( I am out of the country right now but will update post one when back to a computer on Sunday. Too difficult to update with all the HTML from a cell phone. (Def don't want to come across as ignoring a post)

I know firsthand when I felt the same way last July ... Lost my enthusiasm after some incidents on Dis. Hopefully after time your heart will heal. I would still love to meet you onboard. :)

Hi All,

Been a while since I popped by and it's getting close now and I thought I would put a request in.

I'm a major trivia freak - I will do all the trivia quizes on the cruise (although I only do the Disney ones for a laugh, compared to some of you I know NOTHING!). Are there any other trivia freaks out there that would like to join me in making a team bigger than 2 :)

Obviously will have to see the navigators to find out specific times on the days but would be good to know if anyone else if up for it.

Hi! There have been a flurry of posts on Facebook this week concerning the necessity of cards using pin and chip technology. Apparently European credit cards have mostly all gone to a more secure technology, and there was a media report that American Visa and MasterCard credit cards would fail to work or have failed recently in shops, kiosks, and ATMs. :scared1: Concerned, I asked at our bank and they gave me the current scoop. Here is what I posted for the Facebook contingent of our cruise boards:

For all our North American friends: I met with our banking firm here in Chicago and asked about the chip in Master Card or Visa Credit Cards. After doing some sleuthing, they told me the following: Currently, in the USA, neither Visa nor Master Card has any chip technology in the works or plans. They are taking a wait and see attitude as it plays out in European banks, with possible chip introduction here in two to three years. American Express has already has had the chip technology in select cards for a couple of years; our card already has it (I wondered what that funky square was...) She assured me that US bank debit cards will continue to work in Europe, but to take care of shielding your hand when putting in the pin number both here and abroad; they sweep their ATM machines every morning for possibility of tiny cameras added overnite. Hope that helps.

We have had chip and pin for a while, but I can tell you sometimes they don't work, some times you forget your pin and in my experience you can sign in these cases. I really wouldn't worry about it.
