~~~ May 16, 2009 ~~~ Western Magic ~~~
Hey there. I just joined the site a moment ago. I've been reading all sorts of stuff like a madwoman today and I just found this thread. I'll be on this cruise, too! It will be our 1st Disney Cruise. 3rd Cruise ever. We'll be celebrating our Anniversary & my Birthday that week. We don't have children, so we'll be cruising adults only - at least chronologically speaking. :P We booked it not even 24 hours ago so I have a lot of catching up to do now! :woohoo:
:welcome: littlespark
:dance3::dance3::dance3:HAPPY BIRTHDAY JANE!!!:dance3::dance3::dance3:
Ditto!!!:dance3:
.....Oh, btw. My birthday is on the 21st of May (35 - ugh! :P) and our wedding Anniversary is on the 19th! (Hence the reason we typically make that our vacation week.) To make matters even crazier, my husband's birthday is May 5th and even my father's birthday is May 10th.....
DH and I are also celebrating our anniversary and my birthday the week of the cruise.
::idea: I have an idea for the mini navigators...For those that want to walk...should we maybe put a meeting time on there?? I"m thinking like 7 or 8 AM on the walking deck????:idea:
I can absolutely do that! Maybe make a reminder that for anyone wanting to walk or jog to meet at the elevator lobby on deck 4 at 7:30 am. Any other suggestions for a meeting place?
Hey there. I just joined the site a moment ago. I've been reading all sorts of stuff like a madwoman today and I just found this thread. I'll be on this cruise, too! It will be our 1st Disney Cruise.
Welcome!!!! Wow, I've been obsessed with the cuise for at least 6 months, I couldn't even imagine how crazy excited I would be if I just booked!
Great idea JorDan! I hope to get up and walk too! Also, we should add the tastings. I will post that again but let me see if I can get some more recent navigators to double check on the times. Also, I think a few of us may try to have tea at Palo. Lynsey -- what is the best way to get this information to you?
You can e-mail me tigers_01@hotmail.com and I'll add the tasting times. Do you want me to list those that think they are going to be at each tasting or just the days/times?
For those that asked, I bought the signature mats at Walmart--$3.50 for the 11x14 (with 5x7 opening) and then I got another one that was $2.50 for an 8x10 (with 4x6 opening)
I'm in love with the signature mats, I'm adding this to my "to do" list!
(insert mom brag moment) Jake is majoring at Physics at Purdue (I'm the Math one in the family, I think he got the Science bug from Brian :)).
Congrats for your son's accomplishments. I was always very grade/achievement oriented so I can definately related to your son. I was 5th in my high school, had a 3.97 GPA for my undergrad (so I slacked a little one semester), a 4.0 GPA in grad school for my GPA, and passed my CPA last year in my first sitting. Shew, now I'm done with school finally! But definately kudos to Jake! :thumbsup2
I must be lucking out with the laminate and gluing on magnets. I had laminated several signs at work. Yesterday I got out the hot glue gun. I cut magnet strips about 1/3 the size of a business card. I glued it center top. I used a pencil to roll over the magnet, because it got so hot. I put them up on the regfrig and they were still up this morning. It seems like it is going to work.
Hot glue! Why didn't that cross my mind, I'll definately do that since it seems to be working!
I had bought Jim tickets to see Jeff Dunham (ventrilaquist/comedian) for his birthday in January and the show was last night.
Jeff fa fa DUNHAM dot com, lol! I love watching the dvds. Actually evertime I talk to someone about the frozen key lime on a stick I can't stop thinking about Jose Jalapeno. My husband is a fan of Achmed and I think I lean more towards Peanut.
I just got back from Menards and picked up some more MagTabs. Does anyone want me to send them to you? :goodvibes
5509..what's SPH?
Well, SPH is "secret porthole room," meaning it's classified as an inside room (and priced as such) but actually has a porthole with an obstructed view from equipment. There's 3 on each side of the ship on deck 5 (right next to my room actually). They go fast since they're cheaper than a porthole room. But 5509 is not one of them. They are 5020, 5022, 5024, 5520, 5522, and 5524 (do you have a deck map?).
Big FANS here.
For my husband's 27th Birthday, I planned this huge thing with our friends months in advance. We all went out to dinner for his birthday, but what he didn't know was when we walked out of the restaurant two of our friends who had excused themselves earlier were waiting by the car to "jump" him. LOL:rotfl2: We "kidnapped" him (I'm talking blindfold, handcuffs, earmuffs, & a sequined HAPPY BIRTHDAY top hat) We tossed him in the car are left him that way for the hour drive to Baltimore to see Jeff Dunham. The best part was with all the 100's of people outside & along the way getting to the seat NO ONE dropped a hint! Whenever they saw us coming, the quickly stopped talking and started laughing (the hat gave it away)... We didn't take the blindfold off until we were seated! So much fun & he was SUPER excited!
I'm definitely a Peanut fan, but have to say that Melvin the Superhero is pretty cute as well (especially in the episode where he loses his hair)...:rotfl2:
Adam does great Walter impressions (probably because he's getting old and crotchedy himself), but he'd probably be pretty shy about it at first!
We were really bummed that he never came to Vegas the entire year that we lived there...then he came 3 months after we left!:confused3 We are in withdrawal since it's been 2 years since we last saw him! Up until then, we saw him 4 years in a row in FL!
Interesting enough, Jeff was doing gigs on cruise ships several years ago (before his DVDs came out on Comedy Central). My parents saw him on the Caribbean Princess. He'll do a private function for $12k plus first class travel and accomodations! Adam actually called and looked into having him at our rehearsal dinner, but I felt that paying more for the comedian than the wedding itself was a little nuts! Adam's still pouting...:laughing:
Hi Vanessa . .. is it possible to have your mum and sisters names for the fish extenders?? No probs if not!
is this Vanessa, me??
(so not used to someone calling me Vanessa!!)
if so - Karen and Amber are my mom and sister.....
welcome to the newcomers! Happy happy wishes to all celebrating....still no DOCS here - really odd they are going out this early....
fyi- I have 37 lime green hawaiian leis and lots of princess crowns and sashes....I will order more if everyone is interested - I need a boy idea though. Will hand them out at the port.
Amanda--sounds like a great surprise for Jason! I'm sure it was a blast "kidnapping" him!! :rotfl2:
*sigh* I think Lennon might have an inguinal hernia. :scared: I noticed it the other day but didn't check it out like I should have (bad mommy, I know). Justin was trying to reassure me that night that nothing was out of the ordinary just by looking at him. But tonight after shower, I checked, and something is definitely not right. I'm going to try to get him in to see his pediatrician tomorrow (fingers crossed that she's not too busy). It's so close to the cruise that if surgery is recommended, I hope it can be done ASAP so he's as close to normal as possible by cruise time...or do we wait until after the cruise? Cinda--what would you suggest? I'm wanting to go into the doc with somewhat of a plan so it's not all just a quick decision if it does end up being a hernia. Also, Cinda, do you personally perform hernia repairs on children? I'm only wondering because I have a neighbor who is a general surgeon (but don't know if generals operate on kids), and I also have a classmate from high school who is a gastroenterologist (100 miles away, though), so I'm already trying to think everything through and trying to decide whom I would want him to be referred to...or would a pediatric gastroenterologist be the best choice. (The closest is 150 miles away.) I'd really appreciate some info/input on this, if you don't mind. PM me if you prefer. This is not what I'm wanting to be thinking about right now. :sad2: I'm hoping I'm just totally overreacting and that in all actuality it's really just nothing, but I tend to know too much since I'm in the medical field. :worried:
Oh no --- that is terrible. I am sure it is nothing but you must be so stressed right now. Hopefully they will get you in right away. You never know -- maybe it is nothing. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
Happy Birthday (sorry I'm so late in posting)!!! Jeff Dunham is amazing! We've seen him 3 or 4 times now and always enjoy his shows! (Adam REALLY loves him so much that we have every DVD and even a stuffed talking Walter in his office!) We are hoping he'll come around our area soon...
I have a 30 GB IPOD and have downloaded videos before (whole movies in fact). As far as I'm aware, you pretty much have to buy them from iTunes. I paid $5 each for the ones I bought, but lost them when I changed computers. I hardly ever use mine, but do find it kind of nice for travelling. I'll probably bring mine with it's little speakers for our room just to have some nice "tunes" while getting dressed!
The show was fantastic!!! He tried out some new jokes that he's considering doing on Letterman on Monday night. At the end of the show they brought out a big cake with Walter, Peanut and Achmed (like the Ace of Cakes would do) it was Jeff's birthday yesterday. Just found out last night that he graduated the same year as me so unless he skipped a grade or was held back we're the same age!
I got an iTunes gift card so I can download some stuff for the cruise. Now I just have to decide what to download - something I haven't seen or an old favorite??? We went to a used bookstore today and I found a couple of new CDs. I have a very eclectic musical collection - I was thrilled to find the Best of the Partridge Family and the complete collection of the Sid & Marty Kroft theme songs (yup, its my birthday and I'm reliving my childhood) I also got an old CD of Eddie Izzard. Going to save that for the plane trip.
Jane--so Justin says that you can go online for help since there's no manual that comes with the ipod--the manual is all online (I asked him to dig his out so I could look at it for you, and he said he didn't get one with it, but I know he has found answers to other Q's that he has had before). He wasn't sure, but he thought if you open itunes and then put a DVD in your DVD drive (must have a DVD drive), it should pop up & ask if you want to download to the ipod (this must be how it works for CD's, which he has downloaded hundreds of). He wasn't sure about rentals, though. Maybe kind of spendy? HTH!
I look it up tomorrow and see if I can figure it out. Found out that this computer doesn't have a DVD player so we'll have to see if Jim can load one on.
DH and I are also celebrating our anniversary and my birthday the week of the cruise.
Ok, I have your anniversary down on the 17th when is your birthday?
we live 5 miles from DC, so we end up at the DC improve a lot.
Another hysterical comedian is John Pinette
Sooooo funny. We've seen him twice live. If you haven't seen him, netflix his dvd. I promise you will laugh so hard you'll cry! I'm pretty sure both my mother & my brother DID when we watched it here.:lmao:
I'll have to check him out.
*sigh* I think Lennon might have an inguinal hernia. :scared:
I'm sure your dr will want to see him. We'll be thinking good thoughts for all of you.:grouphug:
Today was a Good/Bad day. Had my first Blizzard (the Chocolate Truffle one). OMG!!! It was amazing. Didn't eat any lunch, just the blizzard (hey it's my birthday and the kids weren't there) then we went to Cheesecake Factory tonight for dinner - I could only finish part of my Pulled Pork Sandwich (got a side salad instead of fries). Was too full to eat the cheesecake, but brought it home for later or tomorrow. In honor of the cruise I got the Key Lime Cheesecake. I'm really looking forward to it, but I just can't even imagine taking a bite right now.
Ok, off to upload more music!!!
Val: Here's my suggestion. If he's doing fine and seems unbothered by the hernia, I'd leave it alone until after vacation. I would, however, recommend letting his pediatrician or your neighbor just look at him to confirm that it is indeed a hernia and that it is reducible. Assuming it is, waiting shouldn't hurt him!
As for who to see...don't bother with the gastroenterologist as they can't help. I personally would do a hernia repair on a 5 year old, but many general surgeons prefer to send children to a pediatric surgeon. Just know that it may "grow" until it is fixed. Obviously, I'd be happy to help if you run into any problems on the ship though I recommend trip insurance just for safety! (Though the odds of problems are minimal!) Feel free to PM me or call me if you have other questions (my number is on FB)!
IF you decide that you really want this "solved" before going on vacation, I'd get him in and do the procedure as soon as possible. He'll likely be good to go within 2 weeks of surgery, but I wouldn't do it much later than the first of May!
Ok, I have your anniversary down on the 17th when is your birthday?
My birthday is on the 18th...I'll be 25 years old (wink, wink :rolleyes1 Yeah right!)
....still no DOCS here - really odd they are going out this early....
No cruise docs either but I assume that since I booked with DU that my docs will go to them first and then DU will forward them to me so it may take a couple extra days for me to receive them....Does anyone know if that's the way it's handled when you book with a TA?
Thanks for all the well wishes, guys. You're the BEST! :goodvibes And Cinda, a HUGE THANK YOU for your advice!!! :hug: You're such a sweetie! Normally I would not ask for free advice like that, but with the cruise being so close, my head is spinning, and I'm just trying to figure out what our options are. Our pedi is out of the office today and has a full schedule tomorrow, so I'm taking him to see the on-call doc this afternoon @ 1:15. :worried:
BTW, I do have trip ins but am not sure if it covers preexisting conditions, which is what this would be. I guess I better check on that, huh?
Shawan--we use AAA, and last time, the TA got the docs and just called me to pick them up, so DU will probably just mail them out to you as soon as they get them.
Jane--sounds like you had a great day yesterday!! Comedy, good food, lots of sweets! What more could a birthday girl ask for?!?! :laughing: I think I'll have to try the chocolate truffle one!! :cloud9: Have fun downloading all your stuff! :thumbsup2 I hope you get it all figured out. Let us know what movie(s) you decide to go with!
Oh, I keep forgetting to tell you guys this...speaking of Blizzards, we're still on a mint & chocolate kick around our house (we make our own Blizzards with mint chip ice cream & mint oreos & choc syrup), but we stumbled across...okay, Justin did (gotta give him props)...these super yummy Chip & Mint Sundae Cones from the Schwan's man!!! OMG!! TDF!!!
Got the birthday. Ok, I have to fess up, First I have to say I really don't think much about how old I am. Well, Jim and I were talking a while ago (when he started reading this thread) and he burst my bubble. He said "Hon, I hate to tell you but you're not 45 and I'm not 47, your going to be 47 and I'm 49" Opps!! :laughing::rotfl:
