~~~ May 16, 2009 ~~~ Western Magic ~~~
Hi everyone,
I finally got caught up on everything that I've missed. We've had a really rough couple of weeks. My Dad was in the hospital for a week at the same time as a HUGE event was going on at work for three days. We took my Dad home from the hospital under hospice care. He passed away on Monday and I've been battling a cold the rest of the week. I guess my body just decided it was time for me to rest and recover. It doesn't feel like I'm ever going to stop coughing.
We hit 90 days for our WDW portion of our trip and I was able to call and make all of our dinning reservations this morning. Good thing I had pre-planned everything so all I needed to do was make the ressies. For some reason we have to wait to tomorrow to book our tour (we want to do the Segway Tour at Epcot). We haven't decided on any excursions for the cruise. I guess we better get out act together and decide before next weekend. I'm still trying to decide if I want to do any spa treatments.
Regarding the FE group. At this time I have 18 rooms with the following names confirmed:
2 Eagle Scout
austin77
briarroselynn
Disgirl83
Hudson5&Lennon3
indigodisney
jhart901 (2 rooms)
krishouse
lucyddr
minniemmom
pwoodson
shasess
tigger2002
Tink113 (4 rooms)
If anyone else would like to be added (or if I missed your request) just let me know.
Looks like the first un-official meet will be on the shuttle from the hotel. Wish we were joining you but we will be driving down from Orlando on Saturday morning. Hopefully we will be arriving right around 10:30am so maybe we will catch you at the port.
I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. Things always seem to happen at bad times and the aftermath is usually some illness of sorts, probably because you just get run-down... Hopefully, things will start looking up and you can get excited about this trip!:cheer2:
I started getting sick just as we were getting Dad out of the hospital, but Mom wanted to take him home and she was not going to be able to take care of him herself. I took time off of work (Fantastic Boss just said to take as long as I needed) and was able to make him as comfortable as possible. We all had time to say our good-bye's. He decided it was time to go and slipped away peacefully. I can say I have no regrets about how it all progressed.
I am SO ready to start planning our vacation. I may even get inspired enough to try making my own FE.
I've added your two rooms!
We are now up to 20 rooms.
Did you ever find out about the custom lanyards? I've seen on other cruise thread that they've done plastic wrist bands or tags to be able to identify each other easier.
well I asked and no one seemed interested!! If you guys want lanyards let me know.
I'm so sorry to hear about your father :hug:
I know that I’m new to this board but 2_Eagle_Mom I am very sorry about your dad.
We would also like to join the FE group. I have to admit that I have been lurking for a while but I was a little shy :wave2: . This seems like a great group of people and I love to meet fellow planners. I’ve been planning my heart out today. DH has a cold and the kids are sleeping over with family so the computer has been my friend for the day. For those of you who are looking for pirates costumes for the kiddos, I found some on the oriental trading website for $10. I think that DH and I will just wear bandanas. Just to add a little bit of info about our family, we are from Houston, Texas and we will be driving to Port Canaveral. It’s about 15 hours but we will leave on Thursday and stay the night in Tallahassee. Believe it or not, I look forward to the drive. We drove to WDW and we had a blast. The kids love staying in hotels.
We’re not really big on excursions. On our previous cruise, we did the stingray excursion in GC and we loved it but we felt like we were being herded around. We are laid back beach kinda people. My DH’s favorite “excursion” on our last cruise was lounging on the beach drinking Dos Equis at Paradise beach in Cozumel. Mine was the message on the beach. It was heavenly and only $30 for 30 minutes. I think I will do a full hour this year. We really love that place. I think that we’ll do Seagrape beach in CG and we may actually stay on the boat in KW. KW doesn’t seem very kid friendly and I figured that would give us some time to really see the boat.
I think that I may try to make my own FE. DisGirl, what did you use to make the pockets on your FE. It looks like they are expandable. I am not artistic by any means but I think this would be a great project for DD and me.
One more thing. What is a LanYard?
NoodlesMom ~ Hi :) and welcome to our group!! So, it sounds like you liked Paradise Beach? We did the DCL western ~ 5 years ago and did a lot of excursions. DH said that he wants to really cut down the excursions and just "chill" this time. I thought Paradise Beach sounded like a good alternative as DS (age 19) is bringing his friend and I'm sure they will want to partake in the $10 funpass wristband (I may join them to prove that I am not THAT old :)!!). Do you rememeber how much the cab ride to/from the beach was? I'm assuming you caught a cab at the dock? Were the food/drinks good? Thanks for your reply :), and again welcome pixiedust: .
The cab drive was $15 each way and it is about a 10-15 minute drive from the port. We bought the wrist bands last year and the trampoline is a blast. I'm not sure if we will get the wrist bands this year because I don't think our little ones can do much with it. The rock climbing was was really hard for me but DH got to the top in less than a minute. I'm sure your 19 year old will enjoy that. The food is really good at paradise beach and reasonably priced. I don't remember anything costing over $10. We usually spend between $70-$80 on food and drink and that includes a few buckets of beer and a few too many pina coladas.
as far as the list for FE gifts does anyone have it by how many people in the cabin and adults/children?
I am still trying to come up with a FE gift.
NoodlesMom ~ Thanks for all the Paradise Beach info :)! it sounds like just what we are looking for.
2-Eagle-Mom, I know you don't know me, but I wanted to say that I am sorry for the loss of your Dad, and happy for you to have had the opportunity to be with him at such an important time. Hospice has made such a difference to so many of us by allowing family to be at home. Hope you get some rest.
Hello everyone. We are almost there. One little trick is I have is dont count days count paychecks its a smaller number and it goes quicker. Anyway I just caled Dolphin discovery and booked my dolphon encounter. DO NOT book through Disney. First you have to wait to book, Second Kids under 7 are free for the encounter. All you have to do is pay for the park entrance. $5.60 for the child. Call 1-866-393-5158 ask for Anna. Anyone else will tell you that promo ends in April she booked it for me. The total cost I was charged was 161 us dillars Disney wants $423 for the same thing. No matter what experiance you are looking for the place itself is alot cheaper. The taxi ride over is between 10 and 15 dollars and takes about 10 minutes. As well that admissin includes the national park which looks beautiful
