~~~ May 16, 2009 ~~~ Western Magic ~~~
We have a ton of snow!! It's very cold too - must say a White Christmas is nice but I wouldn't mind being on a lounger on DCL.
Happy Holidays!!!
Merry Christmas everyone! :santa: I just signed up for DIS boards but have been a long-time lurker.
My name is Tim and me, my wife and daughter are booked on the May 16, 2009 cruise.
We live in Lake Ridge, Virginia. I run several Disney-related websites and my wife is a travel agent specializing primarily in Disney World and Disney Cruises. I think this will be my 11th DCL cruise, daughter's 12th and wife's 13th. We recently took the Magic W Halloween cruise and loved it!
On this cruise we will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary on May 20, 2009. We will be joined by 8+ additional cabins full of family and friends - mostly first-time cruisers.
If any of you out there have a little pirate pirate: (or wench) in you, I am trying to organize a pre-Pirates In the Caribbean deck party gathering. I am also doing a special Pirate lunch gathering in Key West with a real-life, professional pirate, Timothy Stitch. Everyone is welcome to join us, let me know if you are interested.
Best Wishes,
Tim, We are interested in the pirate meeting at Key West and perhaps the pre-party meet as well. Last time, we just were not able to get into the pirate thing because we had just finished dinner at Palo and were stuffed! This time, we have late dining, so I'm not sure how we'll handle a pre-party greet if we are still at dinner??? Until March 1 though, I cannot commit as we still are not certain we'll make the cruise... (My DH may get a new job and we aren't sure how vacation times willbe handled...)
Hi Tim,
Welcome to the cruise!! The pre-pirates party gathering sounds like a great idea. We'd also love to do the lunch in Key West.
Since you all have been on so many cruises, what are your best cruise tips?
Now that the holiday's are I'm going to be able to focus more time on planning our trip.
I wish everyone a calm last week of 2008.
Jane
hello all - we are swimming here in sunny Sarasota - no snow!
We'd be interested in anything pirate!!
been having a great xmas....back to work tomorrow for a few days.
Welcome Tim! We would be interested in getting together as well. Thanks for offering!
What a great holiday season, I am back to work on Mon Dec 29th but enjoyed my time off. Hope everyone here did as well.
Guess we have until Feb 15th to sort out what we are doing on our excursions....what typically fills up first- I guess Palo....but not sure if we will even go there. Still hoping that we can get moved onto the first seating for dinner.
I am off to lose the 5 lbs that I gained on our 4 night cruise....will have to do some kind of exercise in May on this cruise...
KLP on a stick, here we come!!
Happy New Year everyone, Indigo:banana: :banana:
.
We will be on the May 16th Magic cruise. Our first cruise. My kids are a little older but they still love Disney plus the great deal in May for cat. 12.
I have seen a lot of people who have booked the cat. 12 staterooms for this cruise. Where are they going to put us all? There are just a few cat. 12 rooms. Maybe we will all be upgraded!!
Cool... We live in Alcoa and my medical practice is in Maryville (5 minutes away). For those who aren't familiar with these towns, they are within 30 minutes of Knoxville and 70 minutes of Pigeon Forge/Gatlinberg.
Welcome! Assuming things work out with Adam's job situation, this cruise will be our second Disney cruise and 4th cruise overall. I'm really getting excited and hoping that we get to go! (But, his job is more important than a vacation at this point... Since I own my practice, I can go essentially anytime!)
In terms of where they are putting us... I'm hoping for a small upgrade! The pics of our balcony above are of a handicapped Cat. 6 that we received on our first cruise, obviously a BIG upgrade! We had booked and paid for a Cat. 10! I've decided that I need a vacation really bad (as does my husband) and therefore we'll take the Cat. 12 risk as opposed to waiting a few more months for my practice to become more profitable! Even in the 12, we are still on the ship and enjoying all it has to offer!
I know we will at least be in an 11 since we are a party of 4 and the 12's only sleep 3!
Hope everyone had a great Christmas. I can't believe it's almost a New Year! It's getting soo close to the cruise, it will be here before we know it!:woohoo: We are in southern WV so we are only about 3 1/2 hours away from Knoxville.
I'm also very relieved! The day after Christmas I received my final CPA score so now I'm officially a CPA (well once the paper work goes through) :thumbsup2 Now all my focus can be on cruise planning and not studying all night.
We are thinking about doing Palo for brunch instead of dinner. I'm one of those people that doesn't want to miss all the theme nights. How is the brunch for those of you who have done it?
We'd also like to book something at the spa, maybe the Rasul or a couple's massage? Anybody have any suggestions?
I like the fish extender, very pretty! I need to get on that and find something that will work!
Disgirl 83 - congratulations on being a CPA!!
I have only heard good things about brunch...I really enjoy eating my meals with my daughter so it will be hard to tear myself away from her to book Palo...we didn't go on the 4night cruise at all.
I went into the rainforest room it was packed on the day at sea but looked very nice....I would like to book the spa for our cruise in May too - we shall see when we get closer. the villas look so relaxing.
Happy New Year!!
Congratulations on becoming an official CPA (just in time for tax season I might add)! I remember my BIL going through that process a couple of years ago, and it's a long one!
As for Palo, I'm having the same issues. On our first cruise, we went on Pirate night. By the time we finished dinner, we were way to full to enjoy the pirate buffet and desserts! However, with late dining we could find ourselves in a similar predicament...(too full to want to eat more)! I'm considering booking Palo for Tuesday night (since that isn't a formal night or Pirate night) and then cancelling it if we decide we'd rather be in the dining room.
On another Palo subject, the brunch is AMAZING! I fully intend to book this on Feb. 15, and probably do it on the Key West day of it's offered. (That's when we did it last time and we really enjoyed it!) I'd like to go to the tea as well (missed it last time), though DH isn't really interested in it...
As for the spa, we'll probably do a "villa" experience at some point. We normally do couples massages, but I think the villa would be extra special. Since we've been to several of these ports before, I'll probably be on the look-out for port day specials as well!
Once we make our final decision as to whether or not we are sure about making this trip, I'm hoping to order my FE from a lady online. I know what I want, I just have to have someone "crafty" enough to make it for me.
Anyway, I'm REALLY hoping we get to go on the cruise as I am very excited to finally take a vacation! (Our last vacation was the same week in 2007, so we are definitely overdue!)
Palo brunch is awesome, but the dinner is as well. You can always double dip....go to your rotation dinner first and maybe have a drink and an appetizer and then make your reservation for Palo a little later.
I think on our second cruise we dined there three nights! I would eat there every night if I could.
The brunch is great as well. The crab legs, shrimp, the made to order entrees.....mmmmm!
When is Pirate Night?
Which night is best for Palo? I have read that it is best if you are in port when eating at Palo. When in port you actually have something to see when dinning at Palo, not just open sea, plus the ship is not moving.
I think this depends on what you like. We love eating dinner out in the open sea watching the sunset. :love2: (As a result, we always book the supper club-type restaurants just before sunset and try to get them on sea days or port days with early departure.) We aren't fans of looking at a dingy port area while "fine" dining. The ship moves every night, so motion isn't too much of a problem for us. (My husband was in the Navy for 8 years, so he doesn't get sea sick!) I can see the points of others as well though...it just depends on what YOU like!
We should know in the next few days if we are able to make the trip... I'm praying we do, because I've already got this one planned!:yay:
