~~~ May 16, 2009 ~~~ Western Magic ~~~ Part 2 ~~~ Key Lime Pie-rates ~~~
We provide a 1.5 hour tour with on-and-off privileges at 12 stops.
Harry S. Truman
Little White House
From the Southernmost Point to the streets of Old Town, our tour takes you to all the major areas and attractions. See Key West’s first tourist attraction, the Key West Aquarium. Cross the street and you’ll find yourself back in the 1800’s at the Key West Shipwreck Treasures Museum. Stop by the Ernest Hemingway House Museum and don’t forget to look for the 6 or 7 toed cats! Cool off with a drink at the famous Sloppy Joe’s Bar or Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville. There’s no better way to see all of Key West than with Old Town Trolley Tours.
How to get to Old Town Trolley Tours:
There are 3 cruise ship piers in Key West:
• Mallory Square • The Westin ‘Pier B’ • The Navy Mole
think I am going to go ahead and buy tickets online - this trolley lets you get on and off.
That is the one we are going to do. We are going to get off at the last stop and go to the Butterfly place, the name escapes me right now. Then after exploring the butterflys get back on that trolley and venture back up to get some key lime pie.
Wow! I take a day off the boards to go on a field trip with Lennon, and I come back to SEVERAL PAGES! Are we excited or what?!?!
I hope it's not too late to wish Jane safe travels!! :grouphug: Weren't there others leaving on Sat also?
Tiffany--LOVE the pix in your sig line! :thumbsup2
Mati--I think the makeover party sounds fantastic!! I'll bring all my samples! :lmao:
I'll double check with Justin, but I'm thinking we'll do the Monday tequila and...oops! I need to find your post with all the info again. I can't remember what all the options were for days & times!
So all this blonde talk makes me wonder what color my hair really is. :confused3 :rotfl2: I was a toe head when I was a kid, and then it started turning darker in my early 20's. I still consider myself a blonde on my driver's license, even though all but the ends are really too dark to be called blonde anymore! :rotfl2:
Kim--so glad you got your passport! :thumbsup2 That reminds me to dig mine out of the fireproof box & put with all my papers, etc., in my accordian folder of "stuff!"
CONGRATULATIONS, JORDAN!!!! :woohoo: :yay: :thumbsup2 :banana:
We kept our secrets until 12 wks also (from EVERYONE...including our parents!). It took us too long to even get pregnant, so when it finally happened, it was neat to have our "little secret!" :ssst: Oh, and seeing the picture that Belinda posted reminds me to suggest having pregnancy photos taken when you're REALLY far along! I did with both of mine and think they're fantastic! I still can't believe I was THAT BIG with both boys! Yikes!! :scared:
Better get to bed...I've got a busy weekend of packing to do!! :thumbsup2
OK... I am not reading any further until I comment on two miracles that have come upon our group today! I knew you were, JorDan... Even when I told you last night not to have any kids if you wanted them to take all their "stuff" when they left home... I caught that hint you dropped way back about 150 pages ago. I am so pleased for you and Chad this will be one of the very best times of your life! I have to tell you though, that Alison told me the good news when I stopped by there after my final shopping marathon tonight so I already knew before I logged on.
Wow Kim... They actually did what they said they would in Washington. That is one for the books. So glad you are good to go!
Now, I will continue reading...
I think each person has to go to guest services and sign themselves up....
I think we are buying the trolley tour tickets in Key West.....not sure though.
That is the one we are going to do. We are going to get off at the last stop and go to the Butterfly place, the name escapes me right now. Then after exploring the butterflys get back on that trolley and venture back up to get some key lime pie.
We are talking about going on the trolley, too. Anyon else having a hard time sleeping? I keep a note pad and pen on the night stand and write down things I remember to throw in the suitcase.:idea: I end up getting up for an hour or so. This week will probably be worse.
Hi everyone,
I'm finally all packed - whew! I sure hope Jim can lift the bag into the overhead compartment.
Thanks for all the well wishes for safe travels. Normally I'm not a nervous nellie, but since we are leaving the boys home alone for the first time I'm getting more and more anxious about what could go wrong.
We are taking the laptop with us and since our favorite evening entertainment is gone (and we get free internet access) we'll try checking in every day or so. I can't miss all the last minute info - just think of all the stuff that just happened today:
Kim - I'm so glad your passport arrived in time!
JorDan - Congratulations to you and Chad - I love how you are going to tell your mother. Just try and get a video of it to remember exactly how she reacts.
V & Laura - we are going to do the trolley bus as well. We figured it was the best way to get to see the area. I still have to purchase the tickets (guess I better do that tonight).
I'm sure there were other things I wanted to respond to, but I need to go jump in the shower (not getting up at 3:00am to do it in the morning). The next time you hear from me I'll be in Florida!!!!:banana::banana:
Sue - just finished posting my message and then read yours. I can tell you I've been awaking up before 4:00am since Wednesday. I kept a notepad by the bed, but by the time I write something down my brain is fully awake. I'm hoping I'll be able to sleep on the plane.
As long as you have your cruise docs, your passport and any personal meds, you can purchase anything you forget on board, or ask one of us. I know I've packed a medicine cabinate full of stuff and after reading all the packing lists I've got a good supply of misc stuff as well.
Ok really logging off to take the shower and pack up the laptop.
We are leaving for our farm either tomorrow or Sunday and will leave from there to Florida by Thursday at the latest. You would think we could all get down the road to gether but 2 are flying next Friday morning and the others will have already left on Thursday evening.
I am pretty sur Bob and I will be also taking the trolley in Key West. Not sure yet about the others. :cool1:
Can't wait to sail away with all of you. Drive, fly, ride safely everyone!
I am confused :confused3 about Palo tea also... Do I need to make a reservation? You make them at Rockin Bar D.
Carole
Wow! So much good news on here! Congratulations! :goodvibes
I'm in Orlando now and thought I'd send out a heads up. It's really hot here! I grew up here, so I'm used to it and I know the weather is usually hot this time of year, but it's been in the 90's lately. Just make sure to bring sunscreen and drink plenty of water!
We're also thinking of doing the trolley tour, it seems to the places we wanted to go.
Safe Travels everyone!
WOW - so much going on here. Just checking in. Congrats to the new mom to be. I was skiing when I was 3 mos pregnant with my first - you will be fine. Had my nails and toes done yesterday - yippee. One week from today we will all be getting ready to board the MAGIC. Hope you all have a great mom's day - oh, and by the way, my "real" name is Mary. I guess I need to start thinking about packing soon....
morning all....had a horrible dream last night, that we missed the boat and had to meet up with it in Key West!
ugh......need to do lots of shopping and have to go to the Outlawz tonight...shopping with 2 little ones is no fun!
Finally!!! I came home from the gym last night and got on the internet for my nightly rountine and after just a few minutes no internet!!! :confused3 We've been having really bad thunder storms and even had tornado watches last night which is EXTREMELY rare for us. Soo I had to get on this morning to get my DIS-fix before Zumba! And JorDan I'm glad I warned you about the internet situation last night on facebook. I was soo mad I kept complaining to Jason and said I have to get back on I just found out the greatest news from JorDan! :cutie:
Mati- I'm trying to jot these down as back up, but whenever you want to e-mail me a new copy go right ahead! And your comment about the alocohol coordinator cracked me up!
For everyone that's finished with their college semesters, congratulations!!! What a relief.
Probably no curling iron for me. It would just take too long and curls fall out of my hair super fast anyways so I think I will just be go au naturel (well concerning my hair, that is)
Kim- Yay for getting your passport!
Jane- I'm also trying to follow up with the new room changes everyone lists and celebrations since you are already starting your vacation (jealous)! So for all you out there please send any additions or changes to either Jane or I (tigers_01@hotmail). I think I'm going to print them on Wednesday so any changes after that we all will just have to write in!
Bill- The personal "mini-navigator" is something that I'm putting together for all the DISers. It will include times for our meets (just to get together and socialize), information on the FE exchange (for those that are participating-I think our cutoff on this was April 1) and a list of everyone that has popped in here and said hello that will be on the cruise. I will be having this with me at the terminal and 3:00 pm Promenade Lounge meet on Saturday to hand out. If you don't receive on then I'm room 2530 so you should be able to get ahold of me with no problem at some point to get one.
Ok, so, went to go see Star Trek with Yoni & my Dad last night (yes, that is the kind of geek that I am) and it seems like I missed a LOT! The movie was fantastic by the way.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
I'm going to do this without quotes to make sure I don't miss anything:
V -- thanks for the info on the trolley. It sounds like a good idea. I love the idea of giving the kids something to do. We have brunch at Palo at 11 so figured to walk our brunch off in KW but now thinking I may ride my brunch off! :rotfl:
JorDan -- I am so so excited about the baby! I knew you were trying and so glad it happened so fast for you! I ditto what Alison said, take Dramamine with you BUT get the less-drowsy version. You will be tired your first trimester (I used to sneak home from work and nap at lunch time) and the last thing you want is a pill to make you even more tired. I didn't know there was a less drowsy version when I cruised pregnant with Kai and I slept the whole time. We don't want you sleeping the cruise away!!!! I can't wait to see you and give you a big hug in person -- WOO HOO!
Barbara is right -- the minor inconvenience of the pregnancy is minor. The blessings are worth it all. You will meet my cruise baby (Kai) and see that even though I slept through my cruise, I don't regret a single second. You may not get to drink or dive BUT you will be surrounded by friends and we will have a BLAST! :banana:
Kathy, Carole -- I don't know if I can add you guys to my reservation. I think that would be the right way to go but not sure how that works. When I get there I am going straight to Rockin' Bar D(I think that is right) and will see if I can up my tea reservation to 4 to add you 2. Anyone else want to join in? If you aren't getting on board around the same time (we plan to be at the port @10:15) then go make a reservation and if I have too many, will cancel a few by then. We will be up in the Mickey pool after we get on the ship.
Val -- we certainly miss you when you are gone! Too much excitement to share!!! I can always use pointers on makeup and think, hmmmm, if we buy something from you, can you write off part of your trip????
I got you down for the Monday tequila at 2. The other one I had you guys down for was the Martini tasting at 3. Let me know if you are still planning to go (and then kareoke after! ;) )
Ok, so my hair has calmed down. It isn't that blonde, just kind of freaked me at first. Now, I think my blonde streaks will just bring out the DIVA in me. :lmao:
Sue -- I can barely sleep too. If I wake up for ANY reason, my head starts spinning with things to do. I am hoping to get a lot done this weekend so I can get some rest next week!
Jane -- I hope you have a fabulous time and selfishly am so grateful that you will bring your laptop with you and stay in touch. Let us know if you need anything and HAVE fun!
Carole -- if you are leaving this weekend, will you still have internet access?
Everafter1 -- thanks for the update on the weather in Orlando. It is that hot here in Austin now too -- unusually warm. Is it like the summer where we can expect a rain storm or 2 during the day? Not sure if I should pack rain panchos? :confused3
Mary -- it is GREAT to have a name to put on the DIS login! Now if I can find a way to remember it....
V -- you had better not have such bad dreams. We want you on that boat nice safe and sound. Do we need to all call you at various times on Saturday morning to make sure you are awake? ;)
Lynsey -- can't imagine not having internet right now! That would be terrifying! :scared1:
I'll mail you the copy of the reservations later today so if anyone else has a preference for time.
Everyone -- If you told me you are interested in a tasting but didn't decide on a time, will just list you as a possible participant.
Yup, that is me, your trusty alcohol coordinator. The sad thing is I am a bit out of practice so may embaress myself (by falling asleep after 2 drinks) if I am not careful!
Ok, so yesterday I finished Sabrina's and my Pirate costumes! :dance3: I also printed most of my magnets so just have to laminate them and put magnets on the back. Today want to finish FE gifts and do some last minute shopping so I can enjoy tomorrow a bit more.
I hope you all have a FABULOUS Saturday!!!!
Ok -- one more question. For those of you who have stayed in both (Cat 4 & Cat 6), assuming it is $400 to upgrade at the port from a 6 to a 4 -- is it worth it??????
Thanks!!!!
Mati,
I would love to have tea with you ladies. Do i still need to go to Rocking bar D myself or how does that work?
My husband also went to see Star Trek and thought it was awesome.
JorDan - Congrats! The last time I was on DCL I was pregnant and didn't know it. That was in 2002. Time flies!
Mati - The Sookie books are definitely worth it, and the cruise would help you get a jump-start on the series. I might need to buy season 1 of True Blood when we come back from the cruise. I don't have HBO so I haven't seen it but I hear it's really good. I know shows usually aren't the same as the book, but I always enjoy seeing the director's take on it. On that vein, I too need to re-read HP6. When you're done with those, move to the Percy Jackson series. The movie will be out next February and the books are fabulous. I will be bringing the last book, the Last Olympian, with me on the cruise.
My plans for the cruise - My mother and I plan on doing the wine and tequila tasting on Monday. I'm pretty sure that we have to reserve the tickets individually since we need to pay for them. I also plan on buying in advance the trolley tour for Key West, and probably the Pirate Museu as well.
My niece comes home tomorrow from college, and I hope she's managed to pack what she needs and that she doesn't forget anything. She's leaving the rest of her stuff in storage, so it's not as if we can travel 6 hours to get anything.
I have a busy week at work so I'll probably be exhausted at the end of the day and still able to sleep.
Carissa, however, is already having problems sleeping. I know she's not going to get any sleep Thursday night, and she has school on Friday morning before we leave for the airport.
This is funny: I asked Carissa if she was excited for the cruise. She starts gesturing with her hands saying "I don't know. I don't know what it's about, I've never been on it before."
I do know my husband is excited to be staying home for an entire week, just him and the dog.
2 more working days untill ashley and i leave!!
Its a rainy day today!! We can't wait to get to the Beautiful weather!! :beach:
I've been having wacky nightmares/disturbing dreams all week, but not directly related to the cruise yet, as in forgetting something. At least as far as I remember. One night it was just yet another dream about crocodiles (a common one for me) then another I dreamed that someone somehow had my favorite of the cats and I was trouble getting her back. (I think I was away when this happened) I was so upset in the dream. Then last night, I had a dream that I forgot something or made some crazy error and all my checks/debits etc. were bouncing and I was flipping out. I get dreams like that now and then, too. I hate dreams where you just feel such stress and anxiety. Needless to say this morning I jumped right on my bank accounts and made sure everything was fine, which it was. I'm thinking maybe I'll transfer more into my main checking account just to be sure though. lol Can't check it while away!
Mati - Not that I've ever stayed in either category yet, but I can't fathom it being worth it. I'm in Cat 6 and it seems pretty darn good, to me. Of course that's up to you, but $400 buys a lot of things you can take home. Or even enjoy while on the ship. Ok, it seems a cat 4 is slightly bigger and you are traveling with children, but since you were originally willing to take a 6, I'm not sure I'd throw away extra money. Depending upon where it's located, it also could be noisier than the 6.
I also just read somewhere that higher decks can cause more motion sickness, but that might not be an issue for you guys at all. I just know if it was me and I spent the extra and ended up with the pool crowd pounding on my head and nausea I'd be livid! :)
do you know for 2 of my dogs - who are less than 5 lbs each it will be $299 for boarding while we are gone. yikes!
:surfweb: I should have limited access but will be pretty busy and must go to town to get on unless I can pirate pirate: a signal from one of the neighbors up the hill again... We are pretty much out in the sticks. Just ask my kids, they are not too fond :sad2: of the place, to say the least. My darling :love: Amanda calls nearly every day on her way home from work though so she can pass anything along if need be. Will miss all the action but we'll all be together pretty soon... :dance3:
BTW... There has been discussion in my family about going to Downtown Disney Friday afternoon if anyone else will be around. We will have to go to the airport to pick Kevin and Melissa up and unless the rest of them are still trying to catch up on their sleep from driving all night the whole gang of us should be there. We will be in the Disney store for sure and if I get my way we will head to the place with the kitchen sink (forgot the name) for an early supper. I am thinking everyone will be ready for bed early that night except the boys of course... Maybe we can tire them out in the pool at the house.
I keep asking Amanda to post a photo of all of us from her wedding (except Melissa, she wasn't around yet) so you will know Bob and Kevin when you see them. Come to think of it... Put a mustache on Amanda and make her hair it's natural color (very dark too) and you will know who Bob is! Kevin looks like her too just quite a bit rounder... In her defense...:rolleyes1 I think the photo is locked up in her old laptop that had a little accident and is waiting to be loaded on the new one. Maybe she can get it on before we all leave! :wizard: I hope Sonya and Tony are having great fun... Can't wait to hear about their adventures and all the food they have had this time!
If I don't talk to anyone else before next Saturday, I will definitely be at the boat at 10am (Wow almost exactly 7 days to the hour!) :cheer2: or shortly thereafter and will be at the 3:OO meet to hand out those glowing DIS arm bands! Our best to everyone, see you soon! :thumbsup2 Have a great weekend!
Carole
