May 14, 2012 - Va-moose-ing to Vancouver!

We live in Seattle and just booked the LA to Vancouver cruise in May. My husband and I have a very social ( and VERY ACTIVE) almost 3 year old :). Her potty training goal is this trip :). We are hoping to sneak her into the 3-10 year old program, but they are more likely (I hear) to do it if she has an older playmate. As a family we are VERY social and would LOVE to meet up with another family in the Seattle area before the trip!

That's what we're hoping as well! So far mommy's not doing well with potty training though. I am horrible at reminding her to go in and go and she's not at a point to go on her own yet. We do have a 5yr old so we are hoping that our almost 3 (July 7 b-day) can go with our 5 at least sometimes. I think otherwise, she might just sit with our baby in the nursery hehe. But I really don't know what she'd do in either place.

I totally agree with Disneyland as a fun Sunday activity. But if that would be "too much" Disney (if that's even possible), then there are a lot of fun activities a DS would enjoy. In May it should be warm enough to go to one of the many beaches, but might not be warm enough to go into the water. The LA Zoo is wonderful. There's also the El Capitan Theatre, which I believe has a Disney Store and Soda Shop right next door. Long Beach has a wonderful aquarium. I grew up in LA, so if there is a specific interest your son has please feel free to send me a PM and I'll see if I can come up with something that he'd like.

That's the number I have. Do you think we could discuss a "close date" for the FE again?

I think we had agreed on Feb. 29 as the new close date but that may have just been a dream. I seem to be having a lot of vacation/cruise related dreams lately!

We had agreed on February 29th so I had closed it then. With only 10 weeks left to go - I want to make sure everyone has enough time to do what they would like for the FE items. And I have added everyone in who wanted to join so I think we are good to go.

Wow, only 10 cabins on the FE list I need to get something for? I am not sure what to do! I am so used to 40 or 50 cabins. LOL. I guess I am going to have to step up my FE items so that the 10 really get to enjoy!:rotfl:

With only 11 cabins participating, do we want to assign specific days or just days at sea, or leave it to everyone's own choice of what day to deliver? I would also plan to bring a bit extra as there are usually additional FE's hanging out by other groups, just in case you want to make a new friend.

If anyone needs some thoughts about what to do in Los Angeles, let me know, as this is our home base.

See everyone soon.

I don't think we need to assign days but will go with the group decision if others want to be more "scheduled" than "free range".

Like you I am thinking about how I can step up my game to maybe do a bit more since the group is a bit smaller. Last cruise I had extra little things to put in random FE's or hand to kids in the hallways if they see you passing out the goodies! Of course that was in October and I had sacks of candy from the Halloween party to hand out. I was the most popular adult in the group with all the kids cause I always had candy on me :lmao:

I'm still trying to decide whether or not to attempt to get to an LA Dodgers game on the Sunday before the cruise. We would have to take the train from Anaheim and that makes me a bit nervous. Plus who doesn't want an extra day in Disneyland...

Is anyone driving and dropping off a rental car? Enterprise is the only company with a drop off location at the port with a free shuttle but they are not allowing me to book the one way from Phoenix. I called the location directly and they said there would be a $40 drop fee if we wanted to leave the car there instead of LGB. Just a heads up if anyone was interested. We think this is the route were going to take.

Can't wait! :cool1:

I think we should just go with when you feel like it - with only 10 cabins on this one (plus what I have on the 2nd cruise) I think I will drop off two things during the week. I dislike being assigned days because you never know when someone has the time to do it. That's my 2 cents :) but of course I will go with what everyone wants.

Just curious - how were you planning to get from the train to the stadium? It's not a bad trip to the stadium but to my knowledge, the train doesn't have a stop super close (but then again - I have never taken the train to the stadium) If you need me to look anything up - just let me know.

I had read that the Dodgers run a shuttle from Union Station to the ballpark. Maybe that is old info? I'm thinking to maybe save that for another trip so I don't stress out trying to do to many things.

You are correct - I never knew that. You learn new things every day :)

As long as you are alotting the day for it - you should be fine. If you really want to go - you should!

I was just working on my FEs, which I love to do.....so let's see...

98 rooms for Hawaii  and the pile on my bed is enormous!!!!! And, now, on to.....10 for Vancouver repo.....! :hippie:

Too funny but I'm so happy to be doing both!
I like the 'no rules' way of distributing too....in case we haven't already decided that one. "Free range" is a good description!!

Does anyone have any allergies we need to be aware of? In case something may be edible?

Interesting about the shuttle to the stadium. That is our stop for DL anytime we go with Amtrak to get down there (living on the central coast, there is no good way to drive!), and I know I have seen several types of shuttles there, gathered at the station, among the taxis. But didn't know really where they started....in fact, one of them is the local Anaheim transit & one is a regular local bus! Seems like Super shuttle may be an option too, since they will pick up just about anywhere...??

Well, hope everyone is having fun planning. They started assigning the GTYs for Hawaii last week, so hoping for this cruise it starts that early too - it was just at about 60 days.

No allergies for us either. We think no rules too. I hope the girls will help take them around the ship too. I also worked on FE gifts all weekend. It makes the waiting for the cruise even harder. Patty :rolleyes1

No allergies for us. We like to hand out our Fe gifts when we have time but we will go with what everyone wants to do. We're getting excited! All of our stops will be new to us. It will be our 9th and 10th cruise(taking the next one to Alaska) on Disney.

We just found out about the Fish Extender exchange but see it's been closed for our sailing. Is there any way we can still sign up?

Is anyone purchasing the Vancouver Island Entertainment Book? We are looking to see if we can exchange a coupon from the Vancouver book for the Cycle Treks coupon.

Thanks!

:welcome: to the cruise...and welcome to the DIS, since it looks like your first post!!

The FE list is very short, so I would not mind adding another...anyone else??
(I was a bit late, myself! :rolleyes1)

60 days out today!

Oh, I got so excited when I read this & rushed over to see if I had my room assignment yet...but no. :sad2:

Any day now, I'm thinking though! Just need to find out if I'm going to need to rush out into the terminal between cruises & beg for an upgrade or not... :cool1:

Sorry, can't help with that...we just catch a plane in Vancouver, so nothing planned but an exciting transfer! Good luck!!

Does anyone know what I could do with my luggage when we leave the ship on the 21st? Our flight does not leave until 330 pm so I figured we would hang around the Stanley park area until it is time to go to the airport.
