Hey... add me in on that! I love chocolate covered strawberries....I'll bring the wine!

Can I be your partner in crime? If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life, it would be chocolate covered strawberries....dark chocolate of course!

how do i find out if our room has the bed that pulls out of the ceiling or not? DD is really looking forward to sleeping on that type of bed again :confused3

They put you in an 11C (old cat. 12), right? I think those only sleep 3. Sorry to have to report bad news.

Love your user name...purple is my favorite color! :thumbsup2

Ahhhh the life on deck 1 & 2 14 days of chocolate covered strawberries with a group of great people :cool1: I'll need to walk those steps! My home away from home will be poolside on a lounger and DD will be in the pool or Oceaneers Lab, DH will be in the theater watching movies or exploring the ship. Of course if we get some great parties planned on deck 1 & 2 the halls might be happening! :cheer2:

I was upgraded from an 11C to a 10B. I'm going to have the room to myself anyway, but I am oddly excited about having the split bath! :woohoo:

Hello all -- my family is sailing this cruise and we are so happy to meet you all! We've signed up for a bunch of DIS activities already and are super excited for the Fish Extenders fun. :D

If anyone has a young teen who would like to "meet" another young teen (13-1/2 year old) before sailing, my daughter is eager to make friends before we get on board. Just drop me a line!

:welcome: To our fun group !

I just joined the Transatlantic Eastbound thread this morning. It'll be my family's second cruise and we're SO excited. Anyway, I noticed the tipping note on the first page of this thread:

Suggested tipping per person for 14 days:
$168 (Server $56, Assistant Server $42, Head Server $14, Stateroom $56)

I'm embarrassed to admit but I have a question: Is that total tip for the entire 14 days? Or tip per day per person? I'm confused as I remember the guidelines Disney gave us on our first cruise as being much higher and that was only a 7-night cruise. I would *love* to save the gratuity money but I don't want any of the Disney crew to get slighted.

Itt is per person per 14 day trip.

Thanks, Jill -- I figured out why I'm remembering a much higher number. I forgot to multiply those tips by the number of people in my family! That makes more sense now although I still think we overtipped last time. :confused3

This is just an FYI for those who may not be aware.

I know that tipping is an added expence but one that the American owned cruiselines have inflicted on us.
But please remember that other than a monthly amount for expenses of about 60pp, tips are all that these people earn!
I wish that they would get a salary and let us tip above and beyond, but alas that is not the way it is!
I would never say that any of you do not tip, but I have met some clients who have told me that they do not pay tips, and I have to tell them that their servers are working for free!:sad2:

Just wanted to ask if there would be a group meet up during the cruise? Any room tours scheduled? Is it too late to buy lanyards?

Thanks!

No need to buy lanyards - just make sure you are on the roll call! Lanyards will be handed out at the DIS meet

has anyone who booked the gty with restrictions gotten assigned or upgraded?

my MIL did and was assigned - not upgraded but did get her assignment.

So true! We tip at least the min - and for our favorite server who we hope to have again this time we tip extra.

Speaking of tips, what do you veteran cruisers suggest for tipping room service? Without having an actual bill to base a percentage off of it is difficult to know what the standard guidelines are. I read a blog that suggested $2, but that seems rather low. Thoughts? Thanks!

Disney suggest the following guideline for tipping on the TA cruise. This is per person... I usually tip extra and I like to tip my stateroom host the first day too. You will be surprised at how much they can do for you.

Suggested tipping per person for 14 days:
$168 (Server $56, Assistant Server $42, Head Server $14, Stateroom $56)

Room service tips--I base it a bit on the amount ordered. Usually somewhere in the $2-5 range, $5 being a full meal for the 2 of us. Consider that your server, who works his/her tail off all day gets $4 per guest assigned to him/her per day. Your room service person could deliver 50+ orders in an 8 hour shift!

I tend to be more generous with my regularly assigned people.

Unfortunately, tips are a hot topic on the boards......

Better than the split bath, you have the sea chest storage cabinet (at least in most cat 10s!) On a 14 nighter, storage space is a very good thing!
