May 14, 2011 - Eastbound TransAtlantic

Welcome, Pascaleps!!! I'm a new Disboarder too. Best advice I can give is take the time to go through all the posts if you can. I actually took notes when I originally signed up and read thru, so now I know which posts to go back to as I plan for packing, shore excursions, etc. Everyone has been nice to answer questions and make us newbies feel included, so I'm sure you'll find this fun and easy! Check out the fish extenders - that looks like a lot of fun - a sure source of excitement and boredom buster for the kids onboard.

Cheers!
Susan

Thanks Susan! I really can't wait. I will try to read more posts...now that I got my laptop back I may be able to read them while my son plays! :) Where can I find info on the fish extenders? I really have no idea what they are.

If I were you, I'd click on "search this thread" and search "fish extenders" and "FE" separately to see what everyone says about it. I did put in my notes that "owensjro" posted good ideas for FE gifts on 1/29 (posting #302).

Find the link for the roll call sheet on page one, and if you do nothing else, get your family on the roll call. After that, notice the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet for fish extenders. There are 3 groups and I believe Group 3 is still open for new folks. We're in Group 2. Also look at the tab for "Events" and see if there's anything you'd like to participate in. You will probably want to sign up for DIs Meet, which is a meet and greet for the forum members on the day we set sail. Click on the tab for Event Descriptions if you want more details on a particular event.

Good luck with the learning process!

Susan

I agree on doing it one seaday afternoon. I could join any afternoon except May 17th. That's when we're having brunch at Paolo. Would sure hate to miss the camraderie with you girls!

Thanks for coordinating, Heather!

Susan

We have Palo brunch on the 19th. Not certain when you plan to meet in the afternoon. Assuming later any sea day works for me. Otherwise the 19th is not a good day for me.

That's a thought! If the Champagne Girls meet at say 2pm or later, no one will have to worry about Palo brunch conflicts.

I'd be OK with any day, really! But since it will give us a chance to bond, it might be fun to do it earlier in the cruise. How's about this? . . . . If we meet on one of the first sea days and have a blast, maybe we can plan a second get together for the 13th?

Cheers!
Susan

My daughter has watched the DVD so many times she keeps telling us what there will be on the ship! She is so excited that that's all she talks about...driving everyone at daycare crazy! ;)

Yes we are from Mtl, the West Island to be more precise! We are taking a flight on May 12th and spending 2 nights in Cocoa Beach, you? My husband will be there (in Naples) for work the week before so he'll have time to work on his tan, lucky him! Then we continue onto the UK to spend two weeks with my in-laws! Are you guys coming straight back?

Unfortunately, we are leaving on the 14 and coming strait back on the 28th from Barcelona. But it will be great to get away from the everyday life (well except for missing my daughter :sad2: )

We probably don't live to far apart. We are in Huntingdon, near Valleyfield and we go at Fairview to shop quite often :lovestruc It will be nice to have a few canadians on the trip !

I take it with your name that you are french and that your husband is english just like us !

Looking foward to meet you on the ship,:flower3:

Looks like there is only 3 sets of Canadians!!......I am from Ontario....still friends???
For FE gifts I am bringing hockey sticks for the boys and maple leaf hightops for the girls!!! (among other things, but those are the "Canadian" things!) I would love to bring Oktoberfest stuff (we have the 2nd largest Oktoberfest next to Munich) but everything is so pricy x50 and ouch!!!

From DCL:

Heather,
Please send me your requested dates/times. We then submit the request for space to the ship. Once confirmed we will let you know the time and date. Please send your first and second options.
1 week prior to sailing, we would need a list of the guest attending and their stateroom numbers. We charge the $20 pp surcharge onboard the ship to each guest folio account.

Give me your thoughts on dates and I'll respond to them!

Ha ! Ha ! Ha ! Of course we are still friends ! :lmao: We live about 15 minutes from the US and are also very close the Ontario border ! I also worked about 10 years in a reservation center for Canadian Airlines in Cornwall, Ontario many moons ago ! Our little town is in the country and it's equally English and French. We are not one of these separatist people :rotfl2: far from it !

You got great FE gifts ! We decided not to do it because I tend to overpack and since we are only allowed 1 piece of luggage, I would not have enought place to pack my clothes !

Looking foward to meeting you on the ship !

Would any of the kids be interested in a book exchange? My 8 y/o DD, Sophia, loves to read chapter books and is starting to contemplate how many books to pack. She reads at the 3rd or 4th grade level. If there's interest in a kid's book exchange, I wouldn't mind organizing this activity.

I also have a 5 y/o daughter who is reading Kindergarten level books. We could exchange easy readers and bedtime story books for the younger kids too.

Any interest out there?

Oh where is this 2nd largest Octoberfest, sounds like fun!

I worked for Canadian many moons ago as well in MSP. LOL! Small world, always getting smaller. :rotfl:

That might a good idea! We have 7 years old son that is also reads at the 3rd or 4th grade level. We will just bring a few books.

BTW, I am newbie here. Three of us (my wife, our son and myself) will be on this cruise and it would be our first cruise. Cant wait! :goodvibes

Missy and I have our excursions narrowed down, the last one is Gibraltar and we are going to put the choosing on that one on her husband. :)

So we have:
1. CC I am just laying around, they have a few things reserved & planned
2. Madeira we are doing Madeira Caves and North Coast.
3. Cadiz after much delibiration (sp?) we are doing Mountain Villages
4. Gibraltar to be determined
5. Barcelona Discover Barcelona and the Spanish Village

So grab some popcorn and settle in for a movie with me (kids are home for spring break, we are apparently watching all the star wars movies)

I think that Sophia will only have space for a few chapter books, so we'll make sure that a couple of them would appeal to girls and boys alike. If we don't have enough interest for an official DIS event, we can remember eachother's room numbers and call when we want to trade. We're in room 2118. I don't see you on the roll call?!

Sounds good. I just put our self in the roll call. Thank you!

Can't wait!!!! Ross took the print outs I gave him for Gibraltar to work, but haven't heard from him since 7 this morning. That means he's probably too busy to look yet

It's a good day for popcorn:: movies here in MN, cloudy, rainy, and cold  Will Spring EVER arrive??!!
