May 13, 2012 4 Night Bahamian Cruise

Just booked the cruise as a surprise Christmas Present to my family! NO ONE else knows and it is killing me to not be able to talk to anyone about it. I sneak and watch the video and have hidden all the paperwork, brochure etc, in my briefcase! We have twins (boy and girl) and they will be 3 1/2 when we set sail!

We have booked Dream cruise for May 13 2012, travelling from Adelaide - South Australia.
Will be family of 4 -two daughters will be 14 & 16 by travel date.

Then we will spend a couple of weeks in Orlando doing WDW. Universal, Seaworld etc- happy for any suggestions on what to see or do in Orlando after the cruise.

Family friends (family of 4) also making the cruise & orlando holiday

Cheers

You are going to Harry Potter World, right? The kids and I loved it! DH, he doesn't do heat so well and was a wet blanket.

That's awesome! I know it's killing you. You musst feel like the cat that ate the canary! Who is going with you?

Hi MaleficentRN
Yes we will go to Harry Potter as part of Universal tour.
Looks like good fun on the internet - kids will have a blast.

Yeah! :cool1: Looks like we will have the ship all to ourselves! :rotfl: jk

This will be our 3rd cruise, but we have 2 more kids since our last one. I will be myself, DH, and our 4 kids. DS-16, DS-9, DS-6, and DD-4.

So, how are your plans coming along? I have a HUGE 3 ring binder will all kinds of stuff in there. I am a big planner. I am working on planning outfits mostly right now. I hope to make my daughter several outfits.
The plans are going well. Like I said it is a surprise Christmas gift, no one knows at all, and it has been hard not to share my excitement! Do people dress up for the pirate party?

This will be our first Disney cruise but we have been on carnival cruises in the past. Our daughter will be 2 1/2 when we cruise in may. It will be our first cruise with our daughter so we are excited as well as nervous with keeping her busy. :) We too are big planners! Researching everything before we are 100% on board in May...
Where did you you get the icon with the countdown days?

Yeah!! More people! I'm so excited. I don't know how to do the FE exchange, but if someone tells me what to do, I will do it. I know about it. I am already planning on making my fish extender, and have lots of ideas for gifts.
What is Fish Extender? Sorry I am a newby!

Thanks so much! I read a little more on the fish extender link and now I am really excited. It sounds so fun!

It really is a lot of fun. The last cruise my daughter was on she was 2 and loved coming back to the room and seeing the FE full of gifts. My older boys loved it too. They would go through their loot before bed and it definitely added something different to the cruise. Also I would go fill the FE's with the stuff I brought at night after the kids were asleep or early in the morning and it gave me time to wander around and explore the ship going to the different decks everyone will be on. Gosh I can't wait....I don't want to wish away the next 10 months but I do wish they go quickly : )

Here are some pics of our FE from our last cruise. Will be recycling it and using again this time around on the dream...

So exciting, did you decide how to break the surprise to them. I know its a little harder with little ones but you can do like a hint thing as you open gifts. Maybe have them open sand buckets, beach towels, (disney themed of course) then maybe a mickey balloon and work your way up to one of those toy models of the ship. Since they are so young what I did with my daughter who is 3 now (4 when we cruise) was have the DCL planning DVD sent to the house so she could watch it and see the Mickey Boat (that is what she calls it) on the TV. You could always get that as well for them to watch after they open their gifts so they can get a visual of what it is you are giving them.
Let us know how the surprise goes and don't worry if you need to talk about it before then that's what we are all for : )

People go all out for the pirate party. Most people will be in costume at dinner that night and then be ready to go right to the party. Especially if you have second seating. I haven't been on the dream yet but this is how it was when we were on the Wonder. I have seen plenty of adults dressed up too so go for it and have fun!!!

I think I saw a thread somewhere of pics of people dressed up for pirate night, If I come across it again I will post a link.

Here is a good link... http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2690440:thumbsup2

Thanks so much for replying. I think I am going to have a bunch of boxes wrapped inside of a big box,and they will be numbered as to how they can open them. Even my second half doesnt know! I have started working on a poem with little clues as the first gift they open. As of right now they all think we are going to Dayton Beach and just staying at our condo.
I am Disney nut, and now the twins are also. I just didnt want to take them to Walt Disney World until they are 5 when they can ride and do everything. So this is a way for Mommy to get her Disney fix!

Your fish extender is adorable. Did you make it yourself? My wheels have already been spinning about making ours! My Mom is an excellent with a sewing machine so I am going to get her to help. She doesnt even know what I am doing in regards to buying the cruise so I even have to wait until Christmas to start on that!

I know there are alot of 2nd and 3rd time cruisers on here so I hope someone can help...

This will be our first time on a DCL cruise, although I have been on other cruise lines, I just have a few questions...
1. Will it be ok if my 3 year old son wears dress shorts, nice sandals and a polo type shirt for dinner?
2.Are there "photo packages" that you can purchase from the photos that the ships photographers take?
3. On the Castaway Cay day, if we want to go back on the ship after 3 or 4 hours on the beach, can you do that, or are there set times?
4.Is there a "formal" night? Will it be ok for that night if my son( 3 1/2) just wears dres pants, and a shirt and tie? Or is a jacket required for even children?

THANKS SO MUCH!

There are photo packages. You can go back to the ship anytime you want at Castaway Cay. Our Mother's Day cruise was really laid back. I saw a lot of just slacks and polo shirts on the men. Don't see a problem with what you are planning. Your 3 year old doesn't need a jacket. When we went to Palo I wore a white silk blouse and black crepe pants. I was as dressed up as any woman in the place. My husband was the only man with a sports coat on in Palo while we were at dinner that night.
