Thanks for saying hte nice things about my TR (you must haev noticed me referencing it on LAura's TR). How sweet of you No I didn't post about it over here--I figured we were all on the trip so no one here would care about my report.
Are you a tour director? I didn't know that. I'm sorry you didn't get the boys' choir trip--it does sound fun.


Crazy weather here today. Sunny and hot all morning, storm blew in with almost no warning and brought HEAVY rain and hail and wind but seems to be clearing up now. Lucky our 7 year old visitor is no more phased by thunder adn lightening htan Mariak and Rio are (ie not at all).

I WANT TO GO BACK ON OUR SHIP WITH ALL OF YOU AND OUR OWN GREAT CREW! <stomping foot>

A few weeks ago we visit the Meyer ship yard in Papenburg Northgermany
They are still at the planing stadium but we heard the rumor that the ships will become the first rollercoasters at sea.
Hier is the link to the webcam of the yard. It is realy amazing this big indoor dock .

The steel parts beside the NCL Gem are the first parts of the SOLSTICE from Celebrity-Cruise Line.

Rollercoasters! Wow. We (I should say Robert and Jamie) went on a roller coaster in Hong Kong at a place called Ocean Park (I think) that went on the edge of the mountain (hill) right over the ocean. They felt like they were on the roller coaster out over the ocean. Now DCL doing it, that would be a blast. And if they aren't, well, it sounds like a great rumor to me! Tom McAlpin can say it's true, it was on the disboards!

Well, I'm trying to get into tour directoring, but have not as yet landed a position. I went to training for it in February. My dream job is to be an Adventure Guide for Adventures by Disney.

Susie--That is a great dream and I bet you can make it happen. I've been reading the Adventures brochure and dreaming about trips the alst couple of months. They are so $$$. Gosh darn it--what do you think the chances are that I'll manage to win one in YOAMD this September?!

I had applied to be the tour director for the Atlanta Boys Choir for their Wyoming, Colorado and Utah trip. I think I almost had it, but someone else got it when they made their final decision. Glad you got to see them. Wish I had been there also.

There were a few adults herding the group onto the bus.

Roller Coasters??? amazing...some ships have wave pools, rock walls, roller skating rings, and surf pools - but a roller coaster???? WOW!!

Looking forward to our DL trip in Sept and then WDW in Oct/nov.

When in Oct?? we are going to be there for almost a week before the DVC cruise (way too short - 4 days is a tease!). Might be good to catch up at a brunch or something...you doing the food & wine?

Friends up the street just got back from Cheyenne where they visited their son - he is the Commander of the base. Do you have a small or big base up there? They say the weather was gorgeous and that Cheyene is a nice town.

Will be at WDW Oct 20 to Nov 4, will be doing Tower of Terror Race. Keep up the training.

F.E. Warren AFB is pretty good size. It along with the State Gov are the big employers here, along with a Lowes and Walmart Distribution center.

Wing Commander has been to our office as we sometimes have to deal with Air Force personel.

Beautiful morning here in WY, nice and cool. Supposed to get pretty warm today, mid 90’s, with the standard afternoon thunder showers. Having a great sunrise.

Hey the Tour de France starts today, should be interesting. I think it will be broadcast on dish channel 151. Have followed it for years.

Thanks to my secret Mickey, Lynn is staying mum and won’t give me any hints. It really makes my day. Thanks Thanks Thanks.

Lynn should be up soon and we will get the pups for a walk while it is cool.

I did my own "Tour de Ojai" this morning. 55 miles with a nice long 9 mile climb. And yes it is a jungle out there - I got run off the bike path by a bunch of riders on trikes. I guess they thought that "On your left" meant that they should move to the left. If anyone saw the Tour de France a couple of years ago when Lance had to go off the road and ride through a field - that's what I had to do this morning. Things are never dull.

Nanaguide - your 4th of July story was fantastic! I don't think I have heard of a better one - gave me chills! Hope everyone is doing well. Darrell is heading out next week for a job interview in a little town outside of Orlando!!!! We are very excited! Connie - Patrick is on our prayer list and please let us know when you get the test results. Nothing else is new here besides Darrell's job and that we are burning up!!!!!!!!!!! Remember that day on the tour. Yikes Ken it is scarry out there even on the bike path.

We hit the low 90’s. Got work benches built. Had a Thunder Storm pass by had a Max wind gust of 38.4 MPH. Not much moisture at all.

I can't belive I have such a large readershiop on the TR. Good gracious. Thanks to all of you. Oh, and I lvoe still seeing what everyone is up to on this thread. Thanks for ALL of your posts everyone.

Here is hte post Debbie is refering to:
"Okay that last post was already long so here goes another to tell you about our experiences thus far with our Fresh Air Fund child who we picked up late Tuesday afternoon. Reminds me of just HOW MUCH we take for granted. (a quick recap for those who missed me type about it previously--Fresh Air Fund arranges for chidlren from low income families in NYC to spend two weeks with families in the country during the summer. They match up children and families and bring the chilrden up on busses. Many childrne return year after year to the same host families. We are hosting for the first time this year).

Our boy "D" just turned 7 last week. He lives with his single mom (29) and brotehrs 14 and 5 (yes you did that math correctly). He does have a bit more of an agressive personality than my kids (play that I really think he takes as just playing and no big deal freaks out my little guy as mean). His intentions are good and I am sure as he gets used to our rules and we get better at predicting his reactions things will run smoothly (yesterday was a LONG day with an early morning to be in a parade and a late night trying to see fireworks which is never a good way to start a bunch of kids off together!). There is just as much good as bad (if not more good) already and the boys love to play legos together.

Okay two major things stand out in our minds thus far:

1. D got in the car at McDonald's (the drop point) and did not buckle up. When asked to, he looked around quite confused and couldn't figure out how/what to do. I said something about I bet you are used to riding in the subway at home. He responded yes. He had taken a taxi once when his brother was sick but it didn't have "these things" in it. It makes complete sense--but we take riding in cars and seat belts so much for granted. Here was a 7 year old for whom this was a totally novel expereince (by the way, he still needs help with that buckle pretty much every time )

2. Our firend's BBQ got rained out and there was no indoor alternative so everyone had to leave. We were already halfway towards the town where our other friends live that we were going to see fireworks with. So rather than spend a half hour driving home for lunch we went to Chili's. Dave and I both got the distinct impression that D has rarely (if ever) eaten in a table service restraunt (makes sense). He kept asking where the menu was (and pointing up to where a fast food one would be) in the lobby, actually shouted with glee at chips and salsa (AFTER he learned that his corn dog would ALSO still come) and is sooooo excited to take home his kids cup.

Yep, we are lucky people to do all that we do."

These past couple of days with D have been busy. Friday's Rio swim class is moved to the morning instead of the afternnon. So, we were at the lake from 9:30-3:00 in order to be there for both lessons. luckily the weather was nice and warm. D loved finding fish and tadpoles in the water and looking for little toads on land. Making volcanoes in the sand (baking soda and vinegar) was a big hit too. We do that every summer but usually on a quiet day. I had no idea that other families don't normally do this. We went through an entire 5 gallon jug of vinegar and tons of baking soda as every kid on the beach had to try it (DCL should make this an event a Castaway--it is so cheap and was a HUGE thing to the other kids at the beach). Another interseting thing which appears to be common to nearly all the Fresh Air Fund kids is a tremendous fear of insects . Poor D has come running and jumping into my arms probably a hundred times since Tuesday (we have lots of insects here in the Granite State). Dragon flies are the worst as they are so big. Logic does not apply here (hey I am not logical about snakes so I figure he gets one too ).
Today we went to Clark's trading post which is sort of like a small amusement park and then we rode the first ariel tramway in North American (actaully its repalcement) up Cannon Mountain. We were way up there and watched a cloud come towards us and then envelope us. Way cool! And kinda sppoky for a city kid. He was half enjoying it and half terrified (like many of us on a roller coaster) and I carried him most of the way (good thing he's small ). When the cloud came in the temp. plunged and we had rain mixed with snow falling as we headed back down on the tramway (also cool in July).

Hey guys,
Well, we've been very busy here prepping for garage sale. Our goal is to reduce the junk in this house by 1/3 so that we can eventually move to an ocean view home (which is still a couple of years down the road!) We bought the ugliest house on the block and are prepping for the final big phase of the remodel - the dreaded kitchen. It's basically a useless room right now. So, we had the big garage sale yesterday which was almost embarrassing how much stuff we put out - sold a ton of stuff though. Exhausted today.

Hadley, Loved the D stories esp. the seatbelt. Makes me wonder how the kids assimilate back into their home culture??? It would be great if you get the same child each year to watch how your lifestyle chages his outcome. It's a great psych study.

Scott, you'd get a kick out of Jonathan's garage - no cars ever park here it's only for woodworking.

Ken, Jonathan is going up Newport Coast hill today to train.
