Ah Yes the Grass Skirt Story,

Well it all started years ago when Bob, (of Bob and Lee), and I went to different High Schools together. I think it was before the 1st PC cruise we got to talking about sail away and tropical night, one of us suggested we wear grass skirts, both being sensitive guys of the new millennium. First to the sail away and also on tropical night, Bob and I did for the sail away and more joined in on Tropical night, from there it has grown, with our line of designer shirts and other items, a membership card for those guys who show up in a grass skirt. Heck Hollywood, even recognized us at sail away and other events, so to this day the membership grows, guys show up in your grass skirt join in on the fun of it all….

Both for sail away and Tropical night, Bob correct me if I am wrong or missed something.

For you guys who are not members wear you grass skirt, we have the photos to prove we actually do this, and we can get you a membership card.

Oh did I mention that Bob and I are Parrot Heads, maybe that was the root cause of this event….
Oh mighty Frat leader, you are correct.:rotfl:
Here is the infamous picture (thanks alot Elaine)

:rotfl2: or :lmao: doesn't even cover it!!! I had water coming out my nose I laughed so hard!!!! That is a truely choice shot!!!

Hey Erik,
My little guy is rapidly becomming a fan of yours. What could be cooler than anoteh rguy who dances, dresses well and loves High School Musical? He is wants to know which one is who in the photo. Are you on the viewers left or right? PS I promise we will keep him from following you and Jason around all week!

LOL...:rotfl2: ....how fun to have a fan club! :)

I confess...guilty on all counts....former dancer, former gymnast (figure skated for a while, too), I TRY to dress well.....and well....I think addicted to High School Musical might better sum it up! I swear it's like a drug....if i'm ever flipping through channels and it's on I am COMPELLED to stop and watch and then for days afterwards I can't listen to anything else on my iPod---I drive my poor gymnasts crazy singing the songs all practice long (one of my girls recently told me, "you're a grown man...you're not SUPPOSED to like that movie so much! :lmao:.....to which I responded, "no no no...stick to the stuff you know...if you wanna be cool follow one simple rule...don't mess with flow oh no...stick to the status quo" :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: )....yeah, so I'm probably going to have to go into a "High School Musical" rehab sometime soon! :)

So who, pray tell, Rio's favorite High School Musical character?
(and also....if he thinks it's cool that I like HSM....have you gotten to the page yet where we learn that one of fellow cruisers' daughter was actually one of the backup dancers in the cafeteria scene? Now THERE'S someone to be a fan of!!;) ;) )

And in the picture I'm the one on the viewer's left with the longer hair (it's even longer now...that picture is from our last cruise in Feb. of '06).

:tigger:

On our seven day cruise we had dinner and Brunch at Palos once. On the crossing how many dinners and brunches are reasonable to expect? How many reservations can you make?

Is there a lobster night and how do I make sure I don't miss out by picking that night for Palos?

The rules say 1 reservation for dinner and brunch per room. You can always put your name in at Palo for any openings. On the May 2005 PC cruise, I know that some people ate at Palo for 5 or 6 nights.

I'm sure there will be a lobster night, but your guess is as good as anyones at this point what night it might be. Even if DCL posted today what each night was going to be, I would bet that it would be different when the cruise actually starts.

Does this mean that you are on the cruise for sure? If so, let Debbie know so you can be included on the cruise list.

We are flying down on the 11th and staying at the radisson @ cape canaveral. For our return, we are flying to London for a day then back to the DC area. Had I known about the b2b idea, we might have done that:sad2: Oh well, just have to talk DH into a REPO for 2008!

Good Morning,

We are also flying into MCO on the 11th and are booked at the Radison/Cape Canaveral. Have you made transfer arrangements to the Radison or perhaps you could offer me suggestions, short of renting a car and driving myself and my five year old grandson? Disney Cruise Line offered me one night at the Hyatt MCO Airport and transfers for $293.00.

Thanks,
Nana and Chrissy:wizard:

Okay, I have a lot of catching up to do! I've made it to page 21...whew...still a ways to go, but thought I'd stop a minute and introduce myself and family. My dh and I just booked this cruise and I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! How have you guys managed for the past year??

We have a dd5 and are DVC members. We had vacation to take in May and were going back and forth about where to go. (already have our DVC trip planned for next October). We were considering a 4 day cruise with a WDW trip when my dh saw there was still room aboard this cruise, so we said, what the heck? Our dd will start kindergarten next year, so this was the time to do it.

We've never been on a cruise, nor been out of the country...so we have A LOT to learn and not much time to do it. I plan on reading the whole of this thread to learn as much as I can.

I'm already excited to see plenty of 4-6 yr old girls on the cruises. My dd is an only child and my dh was a bit worried about her not having anyone to play with. Bet she makes lots of friends with two weeks to get to know them! She's a bit shy at first, but once she warms up, no problems! See you all soon!

Oooo...need to update my picture! DD was 2ish then.

Questions For EVERYONE: We looked through excursions before but sort of put it off until last night. First of all, are we way behind by not having booked things already? Secondly, in looking over the excursions, we got very overwhelmed. :confused3

For the people who are familiar with some of the ports, we'd like some advice. From our experience on previous cruises, we've learned that, for example, we didn't need to book any excursions on St. Maarten--for the same price, we could rent a car and get to everyplace we wanted on our own time frame, etc. Another example is, on St. Thomas, you don't really need to "book the excursion" to the Skyride Tram, which is across the street, or the shopping, it's so easy to get there for a few dollars in a cab or even walk.

When looking at a place like Cadiz, where we're there all day, would it be too challenging to "play it by ear" and go by cab and such? Or would people strongly recommend booking something, and being on the excursions time frame and knowledge?

Anyway, feeling a bit behind thinking we could go through the list island by island and knock out what we DON'T want to do, and it became a lot to figure out. :headache: Anybody's input would be helpful. Thanks all!
Chris and Robert

taxtracker - WELCOME we are also traveling with a 5 year old boy who will be so excited to hear that there is another one. Where are you from?

Welcome aboard new cruisers......

Bob, thanks for posting hte pictures etc....

We will be at OKW before, arrive 5/10 , then 5/11 the Wine and Cheese Meet, Please RSVP, Thanks....
Then on the return we have a 22 hour stop at Gatwick then to MCO for a night at AKL, then home.

:welcome:

WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME new cruisers!!

It seems like we add a few new cruisers at least every week.....we're gonna be just a HERD of DisBoarders!!:jumping1:

Chris/Scoobypop----yes, you are behind...some of us nutters set our alarms and got up at 3am to book our excursions the second the online system allowed it!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I'm sure you're not so far behind, though, that you still can't get most excursions and make great plans.....and lots of people have been talking about doing the ports on their own.....in fact some people have been doing some extensive research in what to do and how to do it....maybe we can have two tiers of excursions on this trip...the DCL excursions and the DisBoard planned excursions and those of you who are doing your own thing can do it together! :lmao:

:tigger:

Erik

Roserae: Yeah another little girl. Would you like to be added to the Tea with Wendy list? Also, give Ken your info for your lanyards.

Welcome anyone else new that I missed.

Loved the GSF picture again!!!

I think we have two families from OK now.

Chris and Robert: On this particular cruise I think its going to be fairly easy to get around on excursions. We are doing a lot of excursions on our own for the b2b. When we were on our Mexico cruise last year we had no problem booking. Here's what I've learned from our friend Nikki a fellow disboarder who lives in Tenerife. My questions are in black and answers are in purple.

1: when we arrive in Tenerife, can we walk to the flea market from the boat? Or maybe a cab?
The walk is about 20 mins if you like iI willl try to find you a link to a city map. the market is near the main bus station.

2: Will restaurants be open that day since it is Sunday? there will be restuarants open in the centre of the city.

3: In Gibraltar, will there be cabs at the boat/port so that we can go on our own to the cable car? (this one may be out of your area?) Gibraltar is very small the docks are near the centre. I would guess you could walk it. Have you looked on cruise critic.com. they have loads of info there but if you ask thing they are a bit scary. I try just to read and search.
Thanks, I appreciate your help. All of your postings have been so helpful in the past.

Cadiz:The horse show is very popular, so if you are choosing that one I'd do it now. We are doing the walking tour of Cadiz and then going back out on our own when we know the area. That night I am going with anyone who will have me as a date to the Flamenco dancing (I know Kathy and Ted are doing this too)

Tenerife: we are going to walk to the flea market (I think with Padalyn?)

Gibraltar: we are doing everything on our own so that we can take our time wandering and sitting and eating the local food (cuz, we're all about food!!!)

Barcelona: we are doing the 2 day pass and wandering on and off at the stops we've researched. Plus a bunch of us are doing the dancing waters show on Friday night. My plan of course, if to eat Tapas and any other food I can find and to buy espedrilles.

I have been listening to the audio book of Frances Mayes (Under a Tuscan Sun) A Year In the World. She is the most detailed writer. It is very slow listening, but she spends 3 disc just describing the detail of Spain. She is also all about food! I got it from my library and have really enjoyed it.

Eric is right I have made this trip my third job on researching the maps and details. I am the human compass (watch I'll be the first one lost) so, I have been getting maps of subway systems, cities etc and memorizing them. Plus what to do in each place. So, anyone who wants to go with us is welcome.

Also, I forgot to mention I have found several sites that offer walking tour downloads that sound really good!

What is "dancing waters show"? That is the first mention I've noticed of that or anyone doing it on Friday night in Barcelona...maybe I haven't been paying close enough attention!!!

:tigger:

Erik

I'll look for the info on the dancing waters show, it is something that another disboarder told Kathy and I about for the 11 night cruise. The site won't allow me to copy and paste, but here it is:

http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com/albums-en/magic-fountains-montjuic/

This is another tour I found that sounded really good to me:
Gourmet Walking Tour
Adults (13 & older) €14,00 each Children (4 to 12) €6,00 each
Enjoy a flavoursome journey through Barcelona on a gourmet walking tour. Wind your way through the historic centre, sampling Catalan delicacies. Discover the dishes which have earned Barcelona its reputation for gastronomic excellence as your guide points out the city's best restaurants and food outlets.
Inclusions :
Guided walking tour of the highlights of Barcelona's gastronomy
Commentary available in English, Catalan, and Spanish
Duration: 2 hours

Available: Friday only

Departure time and location: 11 AM, Tourist Information Office

Return time and location: 1 PM, at Plaça Santa Maria

Note: Guided walking tour of the highlights of Barcelona's gastronomy
Commentary available in English, Catalan, and Spanish

OOOH that magic fountain thing looks cool....very much like the Bellagio in LV (where, I might add, one of our fellow Disboarders here works....although I'll allow them to disclose that themselves if they choose!;) ) Jason and I might be interested in doing that if people are organizing a late evening outing to see it!
