Hate to bring up pirate night again, but do we know for sure there is one and if so, which night it is?
I have to shop ebay for costumes....:goodvibes :goodvibes

We know for sure that there IS one, but DCL has not announced what night it will be....there's a number of theories about when they might decide to have it during the cruise...but no real word. So if you wanna dress (which we probably will), start finding costumes and just be ready to don them whenever DCL tells us! :)

Another day closer!! Woke up to about 1.5 inches of ice on the driveway :cold: But thankfully it is now 36 degrees and it is all melting away.

As I was nice and cozy in the house reading the newspaper, look what I found: Whales are given free Reign

The whales in Spain are given free rein
Sunday, February 25, 2007
Daniel Woolls
Associated Press
Madrid, Spain- Spain wants ships to slow down and watch out for whales while passing through the Strait of Gibraltar, one of the world's busiest maritime routes. The recommendation drew praise Saturday from environmentalists who had sought the measure for years to prevent collisions with whales. Fast ferries, especially, can be a threat to endangered sperm whales, which come to the strait from the Mediterranean to feed between February and July.

The whales "do not know what is going on around them," said Katharina Heyer, president of the Foundation for Information and Research on Marine Mammals, an environmental group based in the Spanish town of Tarifa, which overlooks the strait.

The Spanish navy's recommendation this month urged ships to go no faster than 15 mph and sail "in a maximum state of vigilance" to avoid colliding with the whales. Sailing speeds in the strait separating Europe from Africa vary greatly, but high-speed ferries can reach nearly 35 mph.

It is "the first time in the Mediterranean, and probably in Europe, a measure of this kind has been taken," said Renaud de Stephanis, a marine biologist with the Center for Conservation, Information and Research on Cetaceans in southern Spain.

During the feeding season, the strait is home to 20-30 sperm whales, which are about 60 feet long, said de Stephanis. Year round, there is a population of about 300 smaller pilot whales.

So we may get to see the whales!!!! How cool would that be!!!

Also in the travel section this morning was an article about Gibraltar! So a good morning reading the newspaper.

Happy Oscar Day!

It is a big day out here today. There is nothing on the news for a week other than the Oscars. But we also have the Tour of California cycling coming into Long Beach today. It has been a spectacular tour and we are headed there in about an hour to welcome the teams into SoCal. Also, Nascar has rolled into town. Man, if our freeways aren't hard enough to navigate, it will be today!

Debbie, Well now that is interesting we're big whale fans out here in CA.

Be nice to Ken everyone... he had a rough night. :surfweb: Last night was the 11 night excursion feeding frenzy. Ken will be sitting on the boat while Shari enjoys the Med with us. :rotfl2:

Bob and Scott, should I pack a surprise grass skirt for Jonathan?
