May 12, 2007 -- Taking the Magic to the Mediterranean -- 14 day Repo Cruise! Part 2

Now that I have caught up with reading the thread...

I hope that everyone had a great weekend. The weather here was sunny and the temps above normal.

Starting to get pumped about the cruise. We normally don't pack until the week of the cruise. This one will require a bit more thought than normal considering the baggage restrictions on the way back.
Also, since we are flying in the day of and going straight to the ship, I need a way to get my Kahlua and bourbon down to Florida? UPS or FedX?
Will have to think about songs to get in the cruise mode. Several Buffett songs come to mind, but will have to come up with more.

Everyone enjoy what is left of the weekend and have a good week.:wave2:
Time for the NCAA tourney pairings.

Bob, since I have to get to a Liq Store in Fl before the cruise , I would pick up some supplies for ya. No Probs

Eric, "GTY" is used when you booked and were not assigned a staterrom. You are guarenteed a room in a specific catagory, at that price. Come sailing day you might get an upgrade to a better room for the price you booked. We had it once and it drove me nuts not knowing what room we had.

Would like to learn some basic signing.

How would that happen to someone that they book and pay for a room but DCL is not able to give them their stateroom number? That's never happened to me/us before so I was just curious.

And as for learning some basic signing....I'd be happy to teach people some sign(s) onboard....maybe a DisBoard sign of the day!! If I get creative vefore the trip, maybe I'll even make small posters with the signs of the day and post them on our stateroom door each day! :)

KEWL on the signing, what a great idea, KEWL will have to be the Sail A Way word for signing:thumbsup2

I think what DCL is doing is over selling like airlines do with seats on a plane. Just a guess.

Thanks to the ones that posted what they were doing in Gibraltar....the only reason I was asking, was that its really tempting to take a ferry over to Tangier (about 14 km, or 80 minutes by fast ferry), and hire a private guide for a highlight tour, but did not know if that was something that was a good idea or not.
I guess I figured that if people can spend alot of time transfering over to St. John from St. Thomas, maybe this could be done too. But I don't want to do anything that would be risky or jeopardizing our safety....I am just looking into it, so nothing is decided yet....

That's a great idea!! I never thought about doing that. My in-laws from Morocco are meeting us for the 11 day Med. cruise. We could spend a pre-cruise day together!!!

If anyone needs info on Morocco, let me know. DH was born and raised there...We could even do a group trip over if anyone is interested!

If you find a ferry company, let me know. I'm gonna look into it as well...

:offtopic:

 Our children's group is growing! We have 20 children on our list!! If you would like to sign your child up, let me know.

After your child has joined, can you please help them to create a bio page about themselves. We do have quite a few younger children :cutie: that are not able to post daily. I would like them to be able to find a friend their own age, someone that might be in their age group on the cruise. I think creating a page about themselves, is the best way for the little ones to get to know each other.

If you have signed up and didn't received your invite. Send me a pm and let me know.;)

Signing class:) :) :) Hurray. I took a class several years ago in Michigan (Detroit area--we lived there almost 5 years between Indiana and New Hampshire) and really enjoyed it (but couldn't find a continuing class and have forgotten most of what I learned:sad2:

The GTY rooms give Disney more flexibility. By selling GTY rooms they can fill whatever other rooms people want to book and hold and put those of us in GTYs wherever. So, I pay for a cat. 12 and the WORST case scenario for me is I stay in a Cat. 12 (actually as no cat. 12s sleep 4 the actual worst case is a cat. 11 but I am not supposed to know that according to Disney). I have to deal with the frustration of not really knowing my cabin number for months (and it can be changed again even at the last minute), but I get a great rate and I MAY get a much better room (I do know of people who have been bumped up as high as cat 4). Disney does not make much off of me, but they get the advantage of being able to sell whichever specific rooms people want (if lots of people want to book cat 11s they can move me up, if lots want cat 4-6 they'll move me down, etc.) allowing them to have a better chance of filling the ship. Am I making any sense with this explanation?

Yes you make perfect sense....I've never heard of booking that way but it makes sense....I assume that if you want to book a GTY room you let them know when you book and what your "minimum" stateroom category would be? Or are GTY rooms automatically baselined at Cat. 12 and then lucky people get bumped up?

As for signing....yes I'm always amazed by how many people are fascinated by ASL...I actually grew up signing becasue I have Deaf family members & relatives so I've been fluent in sign as long as I can recall....although I don't get as much practice as I once did either. Rochester actually has a very large Deaf community but, ironically, all but one or two of my Deaf friends (who I see only rarely) have left the area. So even if I don't muster up the energy to make a sign for my door each day....feel free to grab me aboard or on excursions or whatever and ask me for a few new signs each day! :)

So far as I know GTYs are usually only offered for cat 12 (I do think once in a while htey are offered for higher). They are not offered all the time. It seems they are offered whenever Disney has a sailing which starts off fillnig slowly. This is the first time we have booked such a thing and the first cruise we have taken where it has been offered for the dates we are taking.

Ken,
Many thanks for the name badges/lanyards. Looks like a lot of work getting so many names spelled correctly and organized.

Great!!!!

We now have a message board at Room 8558 and Room 7562! I will probably do one on 5024. We may have to wait for the GTY's to see if we can get one on a lower deck :)

Linda can you make sure this gets in the Navigator? :thumbsup2

Thanks!
Debbie

I can volunteer for deck 6 if you need someone....

Pal runs aroung 80.00 I feel it is worth it, he tells us when parades are starting, about short attraction lines. he tells the corniest jokes and plays simple games (great for kids to keep them occupied - be they big or little ) Don't be suprised when it feels like he is having a seizure - that is how you find out he wants to say something !!

Pal Mickey is $65.00 at WDW. Outfits are $12. ( But I have been at home after my knee surgery since Feb. 20)

Thanks, UGH more money, but it sounds great! It last forever right? batteries??

he takes batteries - 4 AA if I recall - they last longer if one remembers to turn him off!

Ken - thank you so much for taking that on - tracking people down can be a PITA....

thanks again :)

Thanks - it really is a fun task - but I always worry about spelling someones name wrong or leaving someone out.

And thanks also should go to everyone of the lanyard team for funding the name badges and lanyards so that disboards get these for free!

This is the third time I will fortunate enough to be a "Lanyard Person".
They are really nice. I've had people ask where they can buy them.
I think everyone will be pleased with the 2007 version.

Thanks Ken and Shari.:thumbsup2
