We were there!! :thumbsup2 What a sight to see the Southern Cross for real.

And we'll be there this time too. :cool1: :cool1: After spending many nights on the water during my Coast Guard Reserve days there is nothing like seeing the stars go right down to the water line.:cool1:

Bob

Hi Bob

You're a Coastie - so am I. I guess we could run the ship if anything happens to the captain. :lmao:

We're finally official. Just received our confirmations in the mail. Now, the big planning starts. We're flying from JFK the day before and staying at the Residence Inn like we usually do.That's all we planned so far!! We're not sure about flying directly home after the cruise, or going to DLP, or flying home from somewhere else. Any ideas, suggestions,or insights from anyone that has their plans already? Oh , we're a group of 8 travelling, Me, Dh, Mil, Bil,Ds11, Dd 9, Ds 7, Dd5. We have connecting cat 5's. Looking forwarding to chatting with everyone.

Welcome aboard! Be sure to send your info to KPROS so you can get your official lanyards and name tags! He is probably on a long bike ride right now in sunny Calif., but I'm sure he will be checking in shortly.

Also, send info to Epcotkilterfan (debbie) to be on the official list.

We are going to have a magical time!

You're right Linda, I was on a bike ride - but not a long one, just 25 miles. And it wasn't even sunny - overcast and damp here this morning.

Welcome aboard Mickey squared. You might want to go back and read the first post on page 143 for some general info about how to get on several lists. And Linda is correct - I need the first names of everyone in your group.

Anyone ordering a basket from Shirley? We did last year and loved it.

The new version of Poseidon, freaked me out so bad. I had to stop watching because I just couldn't handle it anymore....gets too depressing. :scared1:

We watched Poseiden last night and I must admit it kinda sent shivers down my spine, too......but I'll be over that by the time we board (48 days for Jason and I before we board a plane for the World to begin our vacation!)

:tigger:

Okay, no one here has any fear of sailing across the Atlantic. Having not seen Poseiden we are not sure what everyone is worried about. Sinking? Being too far from a hospital? Pray tell what s the big deal? We must be really dense, we can't see how this is much different than a regular cruise.

Drssing like a tourist is a different matter. I guess I can see the worry, but much like Erik I feel it is pretty obvious no matter what (certainly once you start speaking). Also, pickpockest will take from locals also (at least they did when I lived there and our frends in Paris tell us they still do there). We always leave valuables in the ship and travel only with the cash we'll need plus a credit card. David keeps these in his fron pocket and has developed a long standing habit of keeping his hand in said pocket. We've never had a problem yet (knock on wood).

In the movie Poseiden a giant "rogue wave" blindsides a huge cruiseliner and literally flips it over upside down causing a huge tragedy....so it just evokes an irrational disaster fear in anyone considering a cruise out in the middle of the ocean. You're right that it isn't that much different than any otehr cruise....other than I think the fact that crossing the Atlantic means there are stretches of the trip where you are farther away from any land mass than on just about any other cruise...so it plays into people's fears...kind of like how you'd swim in 15 foot water in a diving pool but it's a considerably more daunting idea to swim in 15 foot water in the center of a lake that's 5 miles across......

it's all a discussion for naught though because the trip is going to be safe and fabulous and fun and amazing....and that's the final word!! :cool1: hehehe:banana:

I agree, thnigs will be fine! I always get freaked out by movies, even if they don't have a chance in heck happening. (Like Night of the Living Dead, for example....I always wonder, what if??? and then get freaked out. :lmao: )

I have a question for Floridians....If I fly into to the Tampa airport (flight times, connection and price are much better than MCO at this point) on Friday, and the arrival time is 4:10pm, will the traffic be bad if I drive there straight to the port that evening???

Is there rush hour traffic on that route? I guess by the time we got our bags and rental car, we would be heading out of Tampa at about 5:00pm. That would put us going into Orlando at about 6:00 or so? Maybe if we ate dinner in Tampa first, so that we headed out at 6 instead of 5?

For the 7 day I think it is about $75, I don't remember. It wouldn't surprise me if they just kept it that price to encourage more people to buy it, but perhaps people from the last repo would have more accurate info.

As for Poseidon on HBO this month, I know we just happened to catch it last week, and a couple other folks on here too! We focused less on the disaster and more on the "Well on the Magic would we know where to go at this point!!"

No, not at all nervous to cross the Atlantic. Just very VERY excited that it's coming closer every day. The other night I had a dream that it was May 11 and I realized I had missed the entire two months lead up and hadn't gotten ANYthing done!

That SO sounds like the dreams I have leading up to an exciting trip. :scared:

mickey squared - Welcome!

“I always get freaked out by movies, even if they don't have a chance in heck happening. (Like Night of the Living Dead, for example....I always wonder, what if??? and then get freaked out.)"

OK, I won't even mention The Excorcist!":scared1:

"I, for one, am going to proudly embrace my touristiness (is that a word?...it is now!)....I actually AM a tourist...and I'm going to live out and proud about it!!"

Of course, its a word! Coming from touristville... we always look like Californians wherever we go and it strikes up many conversations with people who want to know about CA. As long as I'm not going to a dinner party with any locals in our ports, I'm not worried."

For the record, Jason and I stick out in NYC our South Beach, too, because we don't dress to those standards either....I don't have money for nice clothes....I spend it all on expensive vacations!!!

I am so with you here!!!!

The original Poseidon came out when I was a kid, and it was terrifying!! But someone had a good point about learning what to do if the boat capsizes. That's where deck 2 folks are in luck.

Eric, did you rent the Incredibles for this snowy weekend? I have a funny little surprise for you and Jason on the boat, so I want you to know the characters. Plus, you didn't know Edna Mode and I think you'll love her! See my new picture tag?

UGh, yesh, rush hour traffic heading into Orlando on a Friday night is horrible. I would definately grab a bite to eat first, relax a bit and then head out.

Has anyone ever been to the Paris Open Tennis? it will be happening after we get off the boat and I want to know about the tickets, is there a free big screen viewing area like at Wimbeldon?

Cheryl! You keep lurking around here.
Are you sure that you and the other Bob aren't cruising with us?
Hmmmm?

Florida is nuts any time when it comes to traffic. Sorry. Your about a hour from orlando. Good luck
