A little addition to my meal name saga.

Traditionally we also had 2 types of 'tea' - afternoon tea and high tea. I don't think I had ever heard of afternoon tea apart from the very rare occasion of being out and about at cafe's. Afternoon tea was sandwiches, scones and small cakes. High tea was a light cooked meal such as ham, egg and chips(fries) or fish and chips, and perhaps apple pie or trifle for pudding.

And afternoon tea is what most American's think of when we think of English tea-time.

Can someone supply me with the person's name who is coordinating shuttle transfer from MCO to the port? A long time ago I put our name on the list to share a shuttle. I wanted to try and finalize some of our plans and thought I would start there first.

Thanks!!!!

I know Kaylee (fourmcds) is coordinating the Hummerzine group. I don't remember if someone else is working on group busses.

The Grandkids asked me to find out for their Halloween cruise if you need quarters to play the arcade games or if you can use your key to the world card? Does anybody know?

;) ;) ;)

I know its definitely not quarters. We bought an arcade card for that there. I don't know if its changed to key to the world...not that I know of. Definitely not quarters:thumbsup2

I also need to get a haircut, but hate doing that as well. The beautician always wants to chat about my life and I just want to sit and get my haircut. :rotfl: Is there a nice way to ask her to please just cut my hair and don't chit-chat?! :lmao: Just kidding....I could never bring myself to do that. That's why I only get my haircut about once a year! ;)

I hate getting my hair cut because of the time it takes and all the chit-chat and fussing about. I have short hair which needs to be cut by someone not afraid of scissors, and I don't want it 'tarted up' because I won't do that myself. I just want it cut well. But after years of trying different hairdressers, I think I've found the answer. I go to the barbers that my DH uses! He kept telling me they did ladies hair but I didn't believe him because from the outside it looks like a basic barbers. But one day I went with him and, sure enough, one of the ladies in there does cut ladies hair.

No appointments, you just wait like the men do, except you have to wait for her. But that suits me as I hate making appointments. No fancy salon, magazines to read or cups of tea, but I don't want any of those and at least this way I'm not paying for them. The lady is very friendly but she doesn't insist on chatting incessantly and because all she does is cut my hair, I'm not there for long. And because it costs about one-third of a 'normal' salon, I can go more often instead of putting it off and putting it off as I used to.

I think she does do a range of hair treatments such as perming and colouring, not just cutting. So when I finally decide I must hide the ever-increasing grey hair :scared: , she'll be able to do it.

There is no way to catch up, so I'm just jumping back in here. We spent the last 2 days traveling to my SIL's funeral. Sad, sad for my brother. I am so glad we went. We drove over 600 miles in the 2 days. Back home by 9:30 last night and now trying to catch up on the laundry, etc.

We spent Friday laying new flooring in the downstairs bedroom. It looks really, really good! We bought a vinyl that looks and FEELS like wood, but is very easy to install. Even Dennis and I could do it!! :lmao:

Do you have Golden Syrup? It is refined sugar syrup - a little like maple syrup but not as strong tasting. You can make a steamed pudding with the syrup in the bottom of a basin, a sponge cake mixture on top, sealed with greaseproof paper tied with string and steamed for an hour or so. When turned out some of the syrup has soaked into the sponge and some is runny. It is extremely good for you and contains no calories!:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: You can make it with jam too.

Or the easier (and, for me, safer and more reliable) way is to go to Marks & Spencer, buy them ready-made, and microwave for 2 minutes. :lmao:
They do a yummy chocolate version too, with chocolate sponge and hot chocolate sauce.

I loved reading this. I enjoy all your links to the the villages and towns you visit. I really want to come to England and visit all the small villages and have tea!

I really love visiting towns and villages and their tea shops. We are scone experts now!!! They should be fresh, not ones softened up in the microwave - that really annoys me.

Scotland was the very best for home made scones and cakes though. We would be up there in the middle of winter, in the middle of nowhere, and come accross a small tea shop with the most wonderful home made cakes.

I hope you get over for a visit.:)

That is such a good idea going to a barber's shop. I did go a few times years ago, but I don't think any of our barbers would be equipped for the amount of colouring I need now!!:)

Ooh, I used to make my own but like you I just went for the Marks & Spencer lower calorie version!!! :lmao:

Thanks Brenda, at least I know I don't need to get rolls of quarters!

What a quiet day on here today.....I'm watching the Jets game and switching back and forth with the Bucs game....looking for V and family! No sightings yet!

DGS Kris just cleaned for me and then John took him home. DGS Tom is still in boot camp until Thursday. Sandi can't wait to pick him up. Kris doesn't really want to go to FL to move, neither does Tom. They both want to stay here and finish school. I feel bad for them that they have to go.

John is puttering around trying to find room for yet more boxes that we brought back from mom's house. The Auction is next Sat. I need lots of positive thoughts and pixie dust that the house sells! Please keep it in your thoughts and if we all think hard about it, it will happen! Thanks!

Venetias Life Celebration for her Mom went very well yesterday! We had our first rain in forever on friday night, so we were kinda worried that the day would be ruined. But the powers that be were very kind to us and the weather was perfect! A bit crisp, but with that nice fresh clean smell and feel that happens after a good rain. The live butterfly release was awesome :hippie: and a very cool and unexpected surprise for all the friends and family that attended(about 50 or so)! Most of them were just amazed that you could do such a thing! Hopefully V will post some pictures soon. Thanks Nan for the tip on the butterfly company. So very , very cool! I recomend this to anyone who wants to do something special and different on a special occasion! And thanks again to ALL of you who have sent kind words to V over the last couple of months, it has meant a lot to her. Oh ya, and if I do say so myself, my brother and I did an awesome job on the B.B.Q.! Sometimes ya just gotta pat yourself on the back ya know!:rolleyes1 I enjoy planning and setting everything up and my Bro is an awesome Q'er, which is the hardest and most important part, so I'm very lucky he helps me out!Anywhoo, thanks again and keep bugging V for those pictures!:thumbsup2

pirate: Nice mini pirate Mrsmork! ARRRGH! Extra grog fer ye it be!pirate:(31800)They didn't even know what hit 'em!LOL

We're home from our over night camping trip. Made it home a bit early. I hvae time now to dash into the shower before our girl scout meeting. My boys are off at the go-kart track (1.5 hours away) so after scouts I figure we'll meet up for a dinner out somewhere or have DH pick up Chinese to bring home. A night to relax.

Next week is a big push for me, one of my clients just released their product this weekend at a tradeshow in Texas...

http://maverickbrand.com/

I'm working on setting up the ERP system for them...not my usual type of client (I do mostly software companies) but this one is very fun and we can totally relate the this product at our house. I'll keep you posted when to see it in neighborhoods around the country. First sales will be west coast and then Florida...

I buy clothes for work and home from Lands End. The returns policy is excellent, but I spend a lot on return postage. Yesterday I sent a parcel back with 3 pairs of shoes and it cost me £8 ($16) postage! That was far too much money just to see if I liked the shoes.

a friend of mine keeps telling me about a site called zappos dot com. She tells me they have FREE returns on shoe orders. I haven't used it, but my friend swears it's great.

So glad to hear the news that the butterflies worked well for you. I just told Molly about me mentioning it and she got a big smile. She remembers well those butterflies and she thought the idea at a celebration of V's mom's life was a great one too.

Picture please!!!

Early game just ended....Browns and Bucs win....yea John and V! Raiders are playing now and Giants play tomorrow. Seahawks play late tonight and I haven't seen the Niners, they could be on a bye.

Bubba, thanks for letting us know about V's celebration for her mom. I'm so glad everything went so well. Wishing the best for both of you!

:thumbsup2 :goodvibes :thumbsup2

Angie, welcome back....I'm so glad you were able to be with your brother for his wife's funeral. I'm certain that it had to be so hard for him. It's good that he had you there. Keep in touch with him after all the people leave and he's alone again. That's an even harder time. Sending him some healing pixie dust.
