John, you sound like my friend Kelly, she called me today to try to get me to commit to a place to eat lunch at Universal on the Thursday, I told her we are going with the flow, she pouted, lol.

For the december visit the only thing I have planned for sure is the big Dinner. FLOW FLOW FLOW, lol.

Thought I would cover these too while I am watching the game . . .

10. Share one food item that best describes the last year of your life. (example: “frozen pizza” because I did a 180-degree turn this year, or “cinnamon roll” because it had lots of twists and turns but overall was pretty sweet)
Sweet and Sour anything . . . I have some wonderful memories of this year, but I also lost my mom this year, and it was not a very good year for that fact alone

9. What one item in the kitchen best describes you and your personality?
A big wooden spoon, because I like to keep stirring things up!

8. What’s your favorite concert you’ve ever attended?
Rolling Stones "Tattoo You" tour in Pontiac Michigan when I was in College - my buddy and I drove straight there for the concert, and striaght home afterward - it was a 20 hour, Hunter S. Thompsonesque roadtrip

7. What cartoon character best describes you?
Dilbert - I feel a lot like him these days

6. If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be?
I would live in Greece, and tour all of Europe

5. Complete the statement “I recommend…” (it can be a show, movie, book, restaurant, website, activity, etc.)
hugging your children as much as you can, and showing them you love them each and every day - they are grown before you know it!

4. If you knew could you try anything and not fail (and money was no object), what dream would you attempt?
To travel in space, and see our planet from space, and see the cosmos free from earth

3. What super-power would you most like to have, and why?
I thought a lot about this one - tough . . . Is the ability to heal a super power? If I could heal illness - especially in children, I think I would feel better about that ability than any flying, speed, or even x-ray vision!

2. If you had $5 million to spend in 5 days, but couldn’t spend any of it on yourself or your family, what would you do with it?
I agree with what I think Deb said - Children's charities - like Make a Wish, and those that try to make life better for all kids

1. “2 Truths And a Lie” – Share 3 unique things about yourself and your life, 2 of them true, 1 false, and let the group guess which one isn’t true.
I never went on a date until college, I majored in Art in college, and did a lot of metalsmithing and jewelry making, I can speak and read Greek (I can't tell lies either)[/QUOTE]

I am an excessive planner. I am not happy unless I know what is going on, and when. Before I get in the car, I plan my route in my mind, and figure out the quickest way to get from A to B. The only surprises I like are the ones I plan for other people to surprise them.

Lack of planning gives me stress . . . unless someone else has planned it for me, and I don't have to worry. I would really like to do one of those "Adventures by Disney" trips sometime, since they plan everything so I can relax!

John, the Adventures by Disney is something I really want to do, it is very similar to the work I did as a Tour Manager for an educational tour company. But with Disney quality and attention to detail, that would be a truly memorable experience.

All the ladies so far are quite small and the 2 guys that have replied are tall!!!:) You fellas just wear us down.

I have not had time to answer all the questions, but I think I might be the tallest female so far, 5' 9".

Okay Daniel is home and I am happy. He got home at 5pm and we had a big family dinner :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Vanessa had to go out to do homework and I went to pick her up. We went to CVS to fill in her makeup for Homecoming (Did anyone else know they have spray on stockings.....different from self tanner......Vaneesa knew about it and they had it at CVS) I had to go to a meeting at the middle school for Annie's FL field trip. Gretchen had to dance for 3 hours tonight.....

Normal busy crazy night at the Halterman's house.

This is the funny part. Daniel (remember it is just Daniel and I doing this cruise) just walked by and said "OMG this thread for this cruise has over 2100 pages.....are you guys nuts???????"

My favorite mall!!!

. . . When I was in high school I used to work there at I. Magnum, which is also long gone. . .
Funny you should mention I. Magnin. Yesterday I wore a necktie that has
the I. Magnin label on the back.

You could not have described my personality better!! I also like to drive as my husband's driving drives me crazy!! I think that is why we make such a terrific couple, he wants me to plan so he can have the experience!!

For some of our East coast and midwest people, here is the history of I. Magnin from Wikipedia:

I. Magnin was a San Francisco, California-based high fashion and specialty luxury department store. Over the course of its existence, it expanded across the West into Southern California and the adjoining states of Arizona, Oregon, and Washington. In the 1970s under Federated Department Stores ownership, the chain entered the Chicago, Illinois, and Washington, DC, metropolitan areas. Mary Ann Magnin founded the company in 1876 and named the chain after her husband, Issac. The chain's flagship San Francisco store was located next to Macy’s California flagship on Union Square.

Beginnings
In the early 1870s, Netherlands born Mary Ann Magnin and her English husband Issac Magnin settled in San Francisco. Mary Ann opened a shop in 1876 selling high-end clothing for infants and lotions. Later, she expanded into bridal wear. As her business grew, her exclusive clientele relied on her for the newest fashions from Paris.

At the turn of the century, Mary Ann’s four sons entered the business. While John Magnin, Grover Magnin, and Sam Magnin became associated with the I. Magnin store, the fourth son, Joseph Magnin, became known for his own store (Joseph Magnin's).

The 1906 earthquake leveled the original store with the rest of the downtown area. After rebuilding, the store opened on new quarters at Grant Avenue and Geary Street. During the 1910s, the chain opened shops in six high-end hotels around the state of California. The Los Angeles Wilshire Boulevard branch (which opened in 1939) and the new flagship Union Square store (opened in 1948) were considered among the most elegant in America. When famed designer Christian Dior paid a visit from Paris, he toured the Union Square store, which had already earned the nickname "White Marble Palace", and said "Magnifique!" The word would later be turned into a high compliment: "Magninique." [citation needed]

Sale to Bullock's
In 1944, the chain was bought by the Los Angeles-based Bullock's department store chain. In the late 1950s the combined chain expanded in the Southern California suburbs by opening the Fashion Square concept in Santa Ana in 1958, the San Fernando Valley (Sherman Oaks) in 1962 and Del Amo (Torrance) in 1965.

After a major proxy battle in 1964, Bullocks-I. Magnin was merged into Federated Department Stores. Bullock's, I. Magnin, and eventually Bullocks Wilshire were run as separate divisions of Federated. I. Magnin expanded in Chicago and Washington D.C. areas in the 1970s.

Sale to Macy's
R.H. Macy & Company was trying in the 1980s to enter the Southern California market. Along with trying to build their own stores, they attempted to purchase Federated, eventually losing a takeover war to the Campeau Corporation in 1988. As part of the settlement with Campeau, R.H. Macy & Co. purchased Bullock's, Bullock's Wilshire and I. Magnin. Macy's subsequently began a reorganization of its divisions and consolidated the I. Magnin and Bullock's Wilshire stores into a semi-autonomous division under Macy's California. The seven Bullock's Wilshire stores were renamed I. Magnin in 1989.

In 1991 R.H. Macy announced plans to re-align its divisional structure and created a new Macy's West/Bullock's division by February 1992. While in the process of doing so, it declared bankruptcy on January 27, 1992. During the next two years, the I. Magnin group shuttered 11 stores of an already-reduced franchise with the historic original Bullock's Wilshire Store closed in early 1993.

Liquidation
In 1994 Federated Department Stores reached an agreement with R.H. Macy's creditors to buy the company out of bankruptcy, completing the acquisition on December 19 and making Macy's West/Bullock's a division of Federated. Even before the acquisition closed it pulled the plug on the remainder of the I. Magnin chain, eventually selling four stores (Carmel, Beverly Hills, San Diego, and Phoenix) to Saks Fifth Avenue and ultimately converting six former I. Magnin locations in Palo Alto, Walnut Creek, Woodland Hills, Palm Desert, Newport Beach, and Palos Verdes to specialty Macy's or Bullock's locations, replicating the success of the 1991 conversion of I. Magnin at South Coast Plaza into a separate Bullock's Men's location. The upper floors of the former I. Magnin store on Union Square were later converted to an expansion of Macy's West own adjoining flagship.

Brand
In October 2006 Macy's resurrected the I. Magnin name and now uses it as a house brand label on ladies apparel. This using of the name may be due to keeping the trademark rights.

Noel, pass this on to John for me, I'm not sure it he reads or you read info for him....

John:

I so agree with this idea. In spending the last 4 years with my parents walking them thru all their medical appointments, I so wish I had medical info from prior to my time (in both the date sense and responsiblity sense) at my fingertips.

Just this last bout with my mom going thru her breast cancer issue, I so wish I had her prior mamogram and biopsy info as a resource that wouldn't have taken a search warrant and hours of phone work to get from her prior doctors.

Do you think this idea is in process somewhere in the valley?

okay, stepping off my soapbox, just got a bit excited there to have my passion (start-ups, software) with my real life of these days caring for my mother and her health concerns.

thanks for listening.

Nan

Noel, where do you go? I normally go to La Belle with Mina
I am just the opposite about shopping. My late sister Karen and I use to be great shoppers. When I would visit her in Los Angeles, we would eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. Now, I don't really have anyone to shop who has as much fun as we did. ME, ME, ME! I love window shopping, Christmas shopping, gift shopping, pretending shopping, any shopping!

http://www.southcoastplaza.com/

My favorite mall!!! When we still lived in OC I used to take my oldest to the carosel there and then to See's Candies--he so loved doing that! It's a great memory we have. My favorite restaurant was 40 Carrots (which is long gone....that was there before South Coast was redone and enlarged). When I was in high school I used to work there at I. Magnum, which is also long gone. I sometimes hate how in America we redo and go for bigger/better. Sometimes it's nice to keep something of the past....
I bought my first dress with my own money at I. Magnum for a dance in college. Still have it. Got it on sale.

8. Who has had the most influence in your life? My mother
Love that!

I've met Donny, he is a SWEETHEART! I'll post a picture when I get home tonight.

I love Donny and Marie show. I still have their record. My favorite was Scott Baio, Chachi! I would dream he would come to my small town in a limo and take me to the big city! Little did I know that the city I lived next to (San Francisco) was pretty darn big!

Indeed, it was wonderful to get out and away from reality for a short time. :thumbsup2 Cindy is a nut and had me laughing my head off after the show when we were trying to get out of the parking lot. For some reason, it was just really funny watching all the people in their cars getting so impatient! :rotfl:
Cindy...does she know how many more days until we cruise????
4. Have you ever met a famous person? yes, too many to list.S
Ok, but who was the nicest???

Yes, we're nuts!!:rotfl:

The visit at Tyler's school. His teacher provided me with a list of behaviors she sees him do. I met with the school counsellor (a social worker). They both, while being careful not to diagnose, since they're not allowed to do that, of course, really suspect something neurological or chemical imbalance, based on their experience in dealing with tons of kids and seeing lots of things over the years. Of course they're not trying to diagnose, just telling me that they really think the things he does are beyond his control. The counsellor recommends me taking him to his pediatrician and when I told her I didn't have much luck there before, she told me to specifically request a school problem assessment and she says that usually gets them acting quickly. Sure enough, we were given an appointment for Monday morning.

The bad part is that Tyler's dad is completely against taking him to the doc. He fully believes he just needs counselling to help him learn how to behave. Counselling won't hurt, so I'm just taking both routes. He'll set up whatever he can do through his employer. I've told him about the doc appt in case he wants to come, but he has no interest in being there since he doesn't agree. :headache:

But at least we have the ball rolling. Wish me luck please! :goodvibes And now I need to get it out of my head for the next few days and not think about it until his appointment Monday.

Holly,

It's hard to believe at the moment, but this IS progress and steps in the right direction! It also should prove to you (though you should already know it as we do) that you are a good mom, and this is beyond both your and Tyler's control.

So start planning for your November trip! This should take your mind off of things!

Sending you lots of pixid dust pixiedust: and hugs:grouphug: !!
