We're in!! :cool1: :lmao:

I'm in - just need to find a couple of thousand £'s to get there!!!:lmao:

OH yeah...forgot to mention...
The housewarming party should be either the 2nd or 3rd weekend in August! :thumbsup2 We hope to have all the work done within a month.

When you buy a house this way do you get it straight away? Sounded l;ike you are already in and cleaning, as well as eating!!!:rotfl:

John and Amy have a fun time tell Lisa and family we said hello!

Glad to hear Alex is doing well.

Hi V-I just booked our airfare for LAX - MCO on American and it was $205, so I would say that's a good rate. Don't wait long, in the few days before I booked AA went up by $5, Delta by $8 and United by $55!
We booked the nonstop LAX - MCO flight on American before the price increase.

I'm sure you mentioned this but sometimes I have a hard time keeping things straight: Why are your working overnights now? Is it just a temp thing? I worked nights while in nursing school as an aide on the floors. I went a bit crazy! Lisa

no, I'm not in nursing school yet, hoping to start in January. Actually, I work in a bookstore, and they decided to do a major overhauling of fixtures. I spent two weeks moving books and shelves all over the store. but on the upside I lost another 5 pounds doing it!! I've now lost 50 pounds total!!!!:cool1: :cool1:

We made it to Kansas, got here at 5 this morning after driving allllll day. it's wet and chilly here, definitly not what I was expecting.:confused3

Well done on the weight loss!!! Shame the last 5 were from the tiring night work though.

.....
I sometimes think I should get a tshirt made up "I survived the teenage years" because I was sure at times that one of us (either me or my DS) wasn't going to. Parenting has got to be the hardest job in the world.

Fiona

I think the shirt should say
PARENTING...THE TOUGHEST JOB YOU'LL EVER LOVE

.....Sounds great!!! Definitely would love to see the pics when you get John to do his part. Those kind of roads make me shiver too....we did a bus tour on St. Lucia as an excursion on our 11 night Southern Caribbean....and I could not look out the window.....although, very beautiful....it was soooooo scary because you thought you were going to go straight down off the road.
 :scared1:

We drove into Yellowstone one time by way of Bear Tooth Mountain Pass. We were in our 30 foot motorhome and I actually was LEANING in as I looked out  as if I could tip the vehicle over. It was :scared1: SPOOKY. They had pins at the gas station at the foot of the highway saying I SURVIVED BEAR TOOTH MOUNTAIN PASS in wiggly letters like it was written when someone was scared. I wish I had gotten one. They did not have them in Yellowstone.

One of my fears is sliding backwards down an icy hill in the winter. I never did it but my imagination of it is so VIVID:eek: I truly think that is why I love FLAT Indiana even though I grew up in upstate NY and lived in PA.

I got my PHX to MCO flight yesterday for $155 on Frontier. It's not direct (connect in Denver) but for the price that was OK. I've never flown Frontier so that made me a little hesitant but I decided to go for it.

Has anyone flown Frontier?

We've had another security alert today!:sad2: A car on fire was driven into the arrivals hall at Glasgow airport. The drivers got out and were tackled by policemen and caught. They think it was a failed suicide attack! One of the occupants was on fire. We now have higher security levels and therefore problems at all other airports. We could be in for some more. Not nice!

boy, things in the world really are getting scary....

we just got back from the fireworks. good lord, we bought enough to have our own show if we wanted!! should be tons of fun....

It's true! It's true! The crown has made it clear.
The climate must be perfect all the year.

A law was made a distant moon ago here:
July and August cannot be too hot.
And there's a legal limit to the snow here
In Camelot.
The winter is forbidden till December
And exits March the second on the dot.
By order, summer lingers through September
In Camelot.
Camelot! Camelot!
I know it sounds a bit bizarre,
But in Camelot, Camelot
That's how conditions are.
The rain may never fall till after sundown.
By eight, the morning fog must disappear.
In short, there's simply not
A more congenial spot
For happily-ever-aftering than here
In Camelot.

Camelot! Camelot!
I know it gives a person pause,
But in Camelot, Camelot
Those are the legal laws.
The snow may never slush upon the hillside.
By nine p.m. the moonlight must appear.
In short, there's simply not
A more congenial spot
For happily-ever-aftering than here
In Camelot.

One of my favorite musicals!

I love it too but wish Lancelot had gotten lost and gone somewhere else. Guen had a good thing going with Art and when Lance showed up she had to blow it up for everyone. Fickle woman.

I would also like to know if anyone has any thoughts on Frontier. I found LAX to Tampa 161.99 pp. Tomorrow though, I should be able to book the day I want.

That is a good price V, I have found $148 on United to BUF from LAX, but I am going to hold out for Jetblue, it is a long flight and having the TVs and leather seats will be nice. I saw prices in the $169+ range out of ONT, so fingers crossed.

How is your Dad doing?

Did you ever post pictures of the wedding?

I don't know how to post so had a friend do a post for me on another thread. I will see if I can find it and copy it to our thread.
Jan :earsgirl:

PS: I copied it but cannot figure out how to get some pictures from the Family Party that are in a Yahoo album into the DIS. How do I find those secret words?

We had a lovely time at Tom's wedding on Saturday, May 19. Sarah wanted to get married on a beach. Her sister owns a beach house on the ocean on a skinny island south of Long Island New York . She said Sarah and Tom could use her beach property for their guests so the list was limited by the number of beds since there is no hotel or motel on the island. There are few cars. Most people walk or ride bikes. There are sidewalks and sand.

Jan1.jpg

They made signs for the doors with a picture of a sand dollar and our names so we knew where to sleep.

We flew to NY City on Friday morning, got a little train from the airport to the train station and took the Long Island Railroad train to the town where the ferry was. We walked a bit less than a mile in COLD DRIZZLE to the ferry terminal, bought our tickets, got some lunch across the street and then took the ferry to the island. Tom-J met us at the ferry dock.

Jan2.jpg

Sarah's sister wrote directional signs in chalk on the sidewalks.

The rehearsal and dinner was that night—hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill. Saturday morning a friend of Sarah's did our makeup, we got dressed, and found the bouquets Sarah had made of the roses she had brought. Sarah carried a packed bunch of maybe two dozen roses, her sister (Maid of Honor) and friend Robin (bridesmaid) carried about a dozen while her Mom and I carried a bouquet of 6 all the same color of rosy pink. The guys had one rose each with rosy red for everyone except white for Tom from some white roses we had taken. When I pinned that on him he was concerned as Sarah had told him it would be pink, but I told him she changed her mind when she saw my white roses. I had asked if she wanted to make her bouquet of white too as I had brought two dozen from the SAM's Club here but she said she wanted pink.

Sarah's gown is strapless, smooth fabric with a smooth overskirt that did not quite meet on the left front so the lacy underskirt was exposed. Lace also hung below the hem of the overskirt. It had a train that was about two feet long. Veil had sparkly beads around the edges. Very elegant.

Saturday was a bit warmer than Friday. Some of the guys carried a tent to the beach.

Later we all walked down there. Everyone wore sandals—even Tom-J with his tuxedo!—but Sarah was barefoot. She and her parents walked down after the rest of us.

The drizzle of the morning stopped for the service and later resumed at times.

The service was very nicely done. They had chosen good Bible verses and had a part for each person to read either alone or in little groups. At the end, Tom and Sarah's Dad stood by Tom-J and Sarah with a hand on the shoulders of each and each of them said a blessing. Then the pastor introduced them as Mr and Mrs for the first time and we headed back to the beach house for food and conversation.

Jan5.jpg
Sarah's Mom had made the cake on Friday.

She frosted the bottom chocolate layer with deep blue, the middle vanilla layer with light blue and the top layer which will be saved for their first anniversary was frosted with white. For a little while Friday evening Tom-J and Sarah had disappeared to finish decorating the cake. They had some marzipan sea weed and fish to put around the bottom layer, some granulated brown sugar to put on the top of that layer to be sand on which they laid some small chocolate candy shells that the flower girl and her Mother had made on Friday and some marzipan seagulls were placed in the middle layer. So, the cake represented ocean, sky and clouds. It tasted good too.

Jan6.jpg

After cutting the cake Sarah fed Tom a piece and then licked her fingers.

Then Tom fed Sarah a piece. Neither of them smashed cake on the other.

Jan8.jpg

They tried to sneak out to their honeymoon cabin but we saw them go.

Jan9.jpg

Sunday morning Tom and I walked them to the ferry.

Jan10.jpg

They took this ferry to Long Island (seen in the distance on the horizon), drove to Newark Airport in New Jersey and flew to a resort on the Gulf of Mexico near Cancun for week.

We had a Family Party for them June 23 to introduce Sarah to our families since the wedding was such a small event. Our family party went well. My stressing resulted in all the details going well and my anxiety was unwarrented as no body did anything foolish.
We had a horse drawn carriage deliver them to the winery. Sarah wore her gown and Tom wore his Tux so they looked spiffy. We got some great photos of them with my Mother (she has Alzheimers--yesterday she did not remember she had been here--but the photos will help her remember.)
Wish I knew how to get a couple pictures to a hosting site. Last time I tried to do that it did not work.

Jan, what a lovely wedding. Sounds like it was really filled with love all around.

I just wanted to say hello to everyone.

Not long after we got home from our April 28th cruise, my DSis died suddenly. For several weeks I was either too tired from dealing with all the family matters, or too upset, to even look at the DISboards. But one evening last week I came onto the thread and read the latest few pages, and it really cheered me up just to read the general chat between people. It made me remember what a great cruise we have to look forward to next year. So much so, that we actually booked our flights this week - which means there's no going back now as they are non-refundable!

Since then I've spent time whenever I can trying to catch up with the thread, but I'm still about 300 pages adrift - although I'm determined to do it eventually.

I hope everyone has a good weekend, wherever they are.

I am sorry for your loss :grouphug:

I keep checking the flights from lax to atl and the price is high $450. Round trip is cheaper. Also from lax to mco is much cheaper with a change in atl, so I may get one of those and just stay in atl. Airtran only does 6 months out but right now it is only $190. I know I will be waiting awhile before I buy tickets.

Jan, thanks for sharing pictures of their beautiful wedding! Very romantic and unique.
