Yes I did...so did my DH John. I was born in Nassau County and grew up in Suffolk County....graduated HS in 1974 and went to college in Manhattan. John was born and raised in Nassau County....graduated HS in 1969 and went to college in Suffolk County.

John and I got married in Sag Harbor on the East End. We wanted to do a barefoot on the beach wedding, but found out that you were not allowed to have any alcohol on the beach and nixed that idea.

Fire Island is so beautiful and you're lucky if you can get a house there. I would love to see pics of your son's wedding. It sounds beautiful!!!
 :cloud9:

There seemed to be several cottages for sale when we were on Fire Island. Sarah's sister and brother-in-law own two properties. As far as I know they are considering selling one.
If alcohol is prohibited on the beach I did not know. We had the wedding there and the reception in the fenced in yard of one of their properties so the alcohol was consumed on private property.
I copied a post from another thread that a friend put in for me. I have some pictures from the family party but cannot figure out how to get them from yahoo to DIS.

I just can't wait! After my niece's birthday party today, when we went back to their house to swim in their pool, my brother & his wife invited Tyler and I to visit them at the condo where they'll be staying for a couple weeks in South Haven, MI. (The pic below is from a live webcam from a few minutes ago). I spent much of my childhood on Lake Michigan because my grandparents (dad's parents) lived a few blocks from the beach. I was at their house just about every weekend most of my childhood, and even during the week for months at a time and my dad would just have to drive me to and from my school in my mom's city every day (about 45 min. each way). So opposite of Deb, who has salt water running through her veins, I have Lake Michigan water running through my veins. LOL!!!! But beach, sand, crashing waves, etc......similar environment. Tyler is so excited because I told him the beaches there are nothing like the inland lakes we have here in our city (grass with a tiny strip of sand about 3 feet wide, and you can see all the way around the little lakes). It's much more like the ocean beaches he loves so much because like the ocean, you can't see the end of the beach because the shore stretches on forever, and you can't see what's on the other side of the water. I know, there's no real comparison to ocean beaches, but it's pretty darn close! :thumbsup2

I just wanted to say hello to everyone.

Not long after we got home from our April 28th cruise, my DSis died suddenly. For several weeks I was either too tired from dealing with all the family matters, or too upset, to even look at the DISboards. But one evening last week I came onto the thread and read the latest few pages, and it really cheered me up just to read the general chat between people. It made me remember what a great cruise we have to look forward to next year. So much so, that we actually booked our flights this week - which means there's no going back now as they are non-refundable!

Since then I've spent time whenever I can trying to catch up with the thread, but I'm still about 300 pages adrift - although I'm determined to do it eventually.

I hope everyone has a good weekend, wherever they are.

I am so sorry. Wish I could e-mail a hug. May today be a good one.
Jan :earsgirl:

Thank you all for your kindness.

Cheri - my DSis was also my good friend. We didn't live close by or see each other often, but we chatted by e-mail about anything and everything, several times a week. She was often up late at night and would e-mail me so it would be waiting when I arrived at work. It is very strange not to have that any more, and not to be able to tell her about everything.

Marilyn - yes, it has been hard. Far more so than I think I would ever have expected, not that it was something I had thought about. She was 55 - of the 5 of us, she was the eldest and I am the youngest (42) - but somehow we became the closest over the last 15 years or so.

Thank you for 'listening'.

What a special lady. What a special friendship.

I got my PHX to MCO flight yesterday for $155 on Frontier. It's not direct (connect in Denver) but for the price that was OK. I've never flown Frontier so that made me a little hesitant but I decided to go for it.

Has anyone flown Frontier?

Yes, and they have cute animals painted on the tails.

We flew from Chicago MIDWAY airport to Salt Lake City via Denver and back. As we were coming into Midway the plane was nearly down when it swooped up, banked right and flew to South Bend Indiana where we sat on the tarmac, and the pilot got out to arrange for fuel.

Several people wanted to get out there but for safety reasons they had to keep us on the plane so our luggage did not go on without us in case of a bomb I guess.

We never did learn the problem. My suspicion was that there was a medical emergency on another plane so they had to get us out of the way FAST and there was no way we could get back in line to land without more fuel. It was an adventure.

Some people were crabby, but what are you going to do? If it was their Dad having a heart attack on another plane, they would want him cared for promptly. Or, if they did not care about their Dad, if it was them having a heart attack, they would want the plane in front of them to divert so they could land. Some people cannot think beyond their own skin.

Jan, what a lovely wedding. Sounds like it was really filled with love all around.

Jan, thanks for sharing pictures of their beautiful wedding! Very romantic and unique.

Yes indeed--filled with love, romantic and unique. Sarah has had plenty of time to plan this and decide what she wanted. She is 29 and Tom is 30--first marriage for both. I told him she has been planning it since she was--about TWO. She giggled.

They got engaged on the Disney WONDER in September. (See my sig!) We had a girls cabin and a guys cabin because they had committed to each other to have the wedding before the honeymoon. Gave us a chance to get to know each other too. She is wonderful.

Yup, it's pretty darn close. We lived in Valparaiso, IN for 10 1/2 years and getting to Lake Michigan was almost a weekly thing for me--a dose of BIG WATER. Now I am in Indianapolis--no big water--but TWO CRUISES TO PLAN FOR!!

Have a great time!

Jan, I am techno challenged so I am no help with posting photos. I even got this message when I clicked on your photo link:

Uh-oh. Something bad happened...
We are really sorry, but something went wrong while handling your request.

I just got some cute brown Mickey capris, Mickey shirt to match, and Mickey sandals from disneyoutlet.com for $30 with NO SHIPPING charge. Go check out their deals! I almost never buy clothes for myself until the ones I have completely wear out. I just hate shopping. Besides, all my money goes towards keeping Tyler in new clothes. But I just couldn't pass up the good deal and I figured I could use a new outfit for my November cruise. :thumbsup2 And of course I might be wearing it on this cruise. :woohoo:

I'm also techno challenged and here's the message I got when I clicked on the photo link:

Yahoo! Photos is Closing

We're sorry. Yahoo! Photos is closing on September 20, 2007 so we are no longer accepting new accounts or allowing users to upload photos if you don't already have photos in your account. We've decided to focus all our efforts on Flickr - the award winning photo sharing community that Time Magazine has even called "completely addictive". Why not head over to Flickr for a look?

Sorry! :confused3

Glad he arrived safely John. Unfortunately we are due more bad rain over the weekend - it just never ends!:sad2:

I have just watched the US weather on CNN and Texas is haveing bad floods too, with the bad weather band stretching way up. She said it has been the second wettest June there with the chance of being the wettest ever! For us it is certainly the wettest June ever. There have been 5 deaths because of the floods unfortunately.:sad1:

Wimbledon will be a great experience.

Bet he won't 'rest' for long though!

Marilyn,

We (California) is having one of our driest summers for a long time and have already had several horrible fires, very early for us.

Would love some rain...

Karen

Sounds like our weather this week, only we're not that warm. 70s all week and around 50 for the lows overnight. Nice to turn off the air conditioner for a bit and get some fresh air. I'm quite claustrophobic, so I'm loving the chance to have the windows open!

Have a great time at the reunion!

We've had some nice mild weather the last week, but are about to head into the 100's again by the 4th of July! EWWWWWW!!!

Rain? Please!

Karen, not good with the heat...

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
:cool1: :woohoo: :yay: :dance3: :cheer2:

Not sure if anyone remembers me talking about this house that we have been trying to get since October. Well, it went to auction today and.........
WE GOT THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone else there to bid on the houses knew our story and let us go for it. I guess everyone was rooting for us that the bank didn't show up and.....they didn't! We got it for 1.00 over the opening bid:thumbsup2 Just what we had hoped for.

Here is a picture of the house...
house2.jpg
The view of Mt. Rainier from the house is amazing, but of course, it is raining today so no view:sad2:
I'm sure I'll bore you all with more as we get it fixed up. It needs a lot of work and TLC before we can live in it, but we are ready for it. The girls were so excited to see the inside (they had never seen it since it went into foreclosure before we could show them).

Just had to share!

Kaylee,

Just catching up after 2 late work nights...

Gorgeous house! From this picture it doesn't look like it needs any work! Such a beautiful view and amazing architecture!

Congratulations!!:banana::banana: :banana: :banana:
