I couldn't believe it when we drove up I-17 to Black Canyon City yesterday. Was Anthem here when you were? It is a HUGH housing development and now pretty much all the land between CaveCreek/Carefree and Anthem has housing developments. Now, the desert isn't totaly developed, but you can no longer find a spot where there isn't some kind of development in your line of sight. The Scottsdale side is even more densly populated now.[/QUOTE]

Yeah, we used to go to the outlets in Anthem, but it has doubled (tripled?) since then. We could not believe the houses that went in up there after we left in 2003. They anticipated the Phoenix area growth slowing by 2007 way back in the 90's but it has just continued to boom.

Nay, Keeptothecode is NOT the official POTC fansite, it's just ANOTHER fan site. Personally, I avoid the space as their always fishing for treasure (money from their visitors). I'm sure I'll get slammed from them again for posting this, but I believe in getting sponsors rather than charging visitors for what is freely available on the internet.

A better place to read about the Pirate Primer is at the author's own website: http://pirate.fwpublications.com/

Aye, I just got back from Hollyweird and the POTC:AWE event at the El Capitan. I'm catching up and uploading pics at the same time.

THANK YOU!!
Jan :earsgirl:

Ah, lots of confusion over a type-o...that was the Priate Premiere at Disneyland....the red carpet event that NotSoLittleMermaid went to!

But it's nice to know there is a book out there!

That totally went over my leaking brain. Never considered it was a typo.

Thanks.
Jan :earsgirl:

:goodvibes

:surfweb: Good morning big sister! Did you see my post on the surf n turf?

Yes I did. Thanks for the nudge. Are you calling David today too? Or do you want to wait on that till plans are more firm?

I just finshed wrapping the birthday present. What time is Spiderman? I really don't want to get out of my jammies...ooops phone!

Hi
Forgive me for asking as I am not sure where about?
Scottishwee35

I think they are organizing a West Coast US minimeet!!! Unfortunately we won't get there I'm afraid!!!:sad2:

I was wondering where in California the wine shop is. Would it be close enough to visit after the cruise, before we head home? IE: Close to the port?

Jan :earsgirl:

That's funny! We are actually thinking about moving back to Arizona. I would like to be closer to the West coast again. We lived in Carefree and I love that part of North Scottsdale although that area is getting really built up and $$$$$.

JLSE50:
Thanks for the PM. I have tried twice now to PM and get error message 'post count too low to PM'. Guess I'll have to get chatty! We live in Carbondale. My DH, too, was born and raised and went to SIU here. Go Salukis!!

Wow, my posts have been so geographically inclined....

SIU had a University School "back in the day" so DH went to that from Nursery School to graduation from 12th. They phased it out in the 1960s I think. It was in Pulliman Hall (or something like that). We have gone to some full-school reunions a few times. He went to college in NY State and that is where we met.

What does your DH do at SIU?
Where in Carbondale do you live? DH grew up on Walnut Street.
Jan :earsgirl:

Not sure if you caught it or not but my DH found on the History channel an entire program last night about Pirates of the Carribean. He taped it for his Sister-in-law (Ibouncetoo). He thought she'd enjoy it. Was wondering if you caught it and if you thought it was well done.

The marathon started with Modern Marvels Pirate Tech and I caught it the first time it was shown on the History Channel last year. Gary Harper, the weapons specialist from Pirate Tech, is Master Gunner for the Tallship Spirit of Dana Point at the Ocean Institute in Dana Point, CA.

SPOILER ALERT! - pirate:

On True Caribbean Pirates, the crew of the ships is the same for the 200 years of pirates. You will notice some of the same people from my pics of the POTC:AWE event. We joke that they were truly undead pirates as they 'lived' for 200 years.:lmao:

I love this STORY!!!! I can remember my first horsey encounters (I had non-horse parents). Horses can be a great out-let for a young girl (an old one too!) and they can teach her so many things about herself - as she grows older. Kept me from a lot of high school "trouble" as well!

I grew up in NW Indiana, and I can tell you having horses gave me a perspective on life that I am blessed to have. It taught me about money (those of us who didn't have any) could still beat the pants off the kids who did - through hard work and dedication. (good lessons). Also about showmanship, (that you don't always win - and to be a good sport) and about fairness (not all judges are fair and not every competition is).

Although its expensive - it doesn't have to be. I worked very hard babysitting, and mowing lawns at 12 to help pay for my horse. (Another good lesson).

At 48 I still get the joy from seeing others faces light up on their first ride, or the first time they and the horse communicate and have synergy! Tell your lovely DD - that if you guys ever come out West, She has an open invitation to ride in the desert!

Where did you grow up? We lived in Valparaiso for 10 1/2 years before moving to Indy in 2005.
Jan :earsgirl:

That is just too funny!:rotfl2: :lmao:

Now that I've caught up - I know there was a few more posts I wanted to respond too, but have forgotten. Someone mentioned menopausal symptoms - I can totally relate to that at this moment!

DH's bday was yesterday - he was left alone in peace and quiet while me and some gal pals went to a movie. We tried to see Waitress, but it was almost sold out. So we saw Disturbia. My little friend Miss Victoris said to me Pegala - it's not scary - it's ok for you to see it.

Needless to say, I called her after the movie and she was laughing... at one point jackie and I had our faces covered slouched down in our seats!:scared1: :scared1: :scared:

My friend Deb and I then went and saw Waitress... ahhh nice afternoon.

Today, DH gets to do whatever he wants I think Spiderman3 is in the program of events...

Have a safe and Happy MEMORIAL Day - everyone. I'm going to take a moment and pray for our troops.:cheer2:

That was me. See my into under my Avatar.

Jan :earsgirl:

Nope, not close to port. Karen is in the greater San Francisco/Oakland area....northern California.

We went to the outlet in Branson, Missouri a couple weeks ago and saw nothing that was not in the stores and the prices were the same.
What happened to the idea of OUTLET?
Jan :earsgirl:

Tell me about it! Although the one in Anaheim did have some pretty good deals and a better selection.

I watched it, and I really enjoyed it. I think Ibouncetoo will too.

Thanks! Will my dear brother in law sleep through that too? We caught him snoozing in Piartes III.

Actually, the market has started to slow a bit over the past year. Some of the new developments are starting to add 'incentives'. Of course, many of the existing, desirable areas are still going strong though people may have their places on the market a little longer than they would have a year ago.

Jan :earsgirl:

We're from Hobart! Though I've been gone since 1970 (to Chicago)! Peg moved to Chicago in ....um '78...before going to Long Island in '79.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE THE PIRATE PRIMER CAN BE FOUND?

Ah, lots of confusion over a type-o...that was the Priate Premiere at Disneyland....the red carpet event that NotSoLittleMermaid went to!

LOL! This reminds me of one of Gilda Radner's characters on Saturday Night Live -- hard-of-hearing little old lady Emily Latella.

Emily Latella would give a guest editorial on "Weekend Update", where she would complain about a news item she clearly misunderstood. Example: "What's all this fuss about violins on television? For heaven's sake, if anything there ought to be more violins on television!"

Chevy Chase, anchor of the news, would let her rant a bit and then gently correct her, e.g., "That's violence on television, not violins". Emily would turn to the camera, smile, and say "Never mind!"

In other episodes, she complained about "Busting" School Children, "Canker" Research, "Celery" Caps, Endangered "Feces", the "Eagle" Rights Amendment, Making Puerto Rico a "Steak", and Presidential "Erections."

Anyone remember these classic skits?

Woody

Jan :earsgirl:

Yes Jan - we grew up in Hobart. Lots of horsing around in the Valpo area though. One of my favorite "tack" shops was in Valpo - still is I think. Although I'm sure it's changed owners since then.

I did indeed move to Chicago after high school and lived there until I moved to Long Island ... lived there for 5 years (the entire time the ISLANDER's won their Stanley cups!).

I remember riding across CW Post college property on horseback (I worked at a ranch on Valentine Road) and the owner and I would take off and always get caught by campus security... at one point they called Westbury police dept. on us, but he was a pillar of the community (East Meadow Animal Hospital owner) and we always got let go. Those were the days! Wonder how Dr. Gross is doing now???

Then I moved here, my folks retired to Scottsdale and I knew I had to live in this "horse country". Not so much anymore. All the stables have been pushed farther and farther out of town - Verde River area, etc.

I still board at a place where I can ride out into the desert - for how much longer... not sure! But we still like take the "kids" (dogs, horses) up north in the summer to camp. We are all getting older, and the trail seems longer, but we still enjoy it! :thumbsup2 :upsidedow

INDEED!!!:happytv: I loved Gilda! Those were amazing times on SNL!

Jan :earsgirl:

DH is a general contractor. He graduated from SIU's Construction Sciences program in '96. We live north of town off Dilinger Rd. on some acreage. DH lived on Oak St. and Pecan St. in his youth!

Sounds like it's time for another chorus of "It's A Small World" ::yes::

Woody, I sure do remember the good old days of Sat. Night Live. I also remember the good old days of Second City in Chicago. We were regular visitiors there in the '70's and I remember when Bill Murray joined the cast! I recall turning to my sister the first tiime he performed and said "He's gonna make it". Many years later a good friend of my sisters appeared with him in "Groundhog Day" and she said was one of the sweetest people she ever worked with. (BTW, she also said the same about Cameron Diaz when she did "My Best Friends Wedding".)

Attention FISH EXTENDER TEAMS. Here's a cool web-site for printed materials. The Med repo folks came up with their own design and people were able to buy any style shirt, cap, mug, teaddy bear they wanted with their logo on it.....pretty cool, eh?

http://www.cafepress.com/cp/customize/

I'll get the link so you can see what they had.

Here it is: http://www.cafepress.com/may2007ebrepo

I don't know if we'll be able to use our logo since it has Mickey on it though.

Can you explain the fish extender "teams"? Is that going to be a gift exchange thingy like on our double dip?

Also, can you tell me who you ordered yours from? I want to order one for us to decorate... (me and DH).
Thanks sister.
