Yes, my second choice would be the Mission Beach/Bay area (as I spent many an early morning rowing on the bay). Belmont Park has an old wooden roller coaster, which is a short and jerky ride, but fun. The Bahia and Catamaran are quite nice with nice beachy bay property. I think there's also still a river boat that goes between the two hotels.

The Hotel Del has always been my favorite hangout, though I've never stayed there. One of my best memories of my younger single days was having drinks out on the deck over looking the ocean watching the sun set. Now, in my married with kids and a dog days, dog beach at the north end by the naval air station is where we hang out! It's a close to Castaway Cay heaven as I can get without a ship!

Since you have a car, you have more options. There are also smaller hotels that aren't exactly on the bay or beach that are nice. My DIS friend from Iowa wished she had stayed at the Embassy Suites, which is across from the Manchester Hyatt. There's a great yummy BBQ place there, too, called Kansas City Barbecue--where the piano scene in Top Gun was filmed!

I think it's high time I take a vacation in my own city!

I have been going to the Del since I was a kid. I just love it even though it is really changing. Did you see the book they had out called "The Loveliest Hotel You Can Imagine? I have a copy. The book consists of letters written by a little girl named Noel according to her letters and drawings of the Del from her 1892 visit. We have many, many family pictures of stays at the Del.

I love the beach area in front of the Del also. We have been to the dog beach also when we did a road trip years ago with our dogs.

Love that BBQ place also. Top Gun is one of my oldies but goodies favorite movies.

Samantha has booked us for a graduation dinner at Jordan at Tower 23. Have you been? She says is one of her favorite restaurants in San Diego.

Greetings from Anaheim!!:cool1: :cool1:

I've already bought my ticket to see it at 9 pm on Thurs., 5/24!:cool1: :cool1:

:crazy2: :crazy2:
I've heard that on your deathbed you don't regret the things you DID as much as the things you DIDN'T do. Hopefully I'll have great stories to share on Sunday!:cool1:

I heard there will be limits on taking pictures and such. I would love to hear your stories and see pictures. If you get a chance and see Kapt Kula's pyrate band on the red carpet, be sure to say "Ahoy to their Boudhran Player (Irish Drum), Liberte' Sparrow."pirate:

You guys will not believe this...I copied and pasted this from my MED THREAD.

This family will be on the Magic for 35 straight days!! This is unbelieveable!!
HOLY COW! That would be absolutely incredible! But it makes me wonder what they do for a living to be able to afford such a long stay! Whatever they do, I think I need to rethink my career plans! :rotfl: Either that or win the lotto!

I was holding out, but I'm going to spill my beans.

One of the best places to stay in San Diego is Humphrey's Half Moon Bay. It's on Harbor Island and...birkner..are you listening?.TOP GUN.. All the Navy men stay there. The Navy holds several rooms for their recruits to stay there as rewards, so the poolside viewing is enjoyable. Also, Humphrey's as a summer concert series which tickets to the concert are extra, but you can hear the bands from the pool area, while sipping on a pina coloda and enjoying the view.

For families, I recommend The Dana and their new tower rooms (make sure you don't get the older part of the hotel.) The tower rooms overlook the harbor and it's the closest hotel to Seaworld. You can watch Seaworld's fireworks from the Firefly poolside lounge. They also have a marina where we dock our boat when we are there.

Just some other choices to consider.

Off topic, but I just have to share. I've been really stressed out lately, work has been insanely busy and I do a full day's work in 6 hours (my 2 attorneys wait to take lunch until after I leave so they can take full advantage of my shorter day). 3 classes this semester. Trying to get Tyler into our school of choice, attending meetings at that school, making sure we have all our paperwork in by the deadlines, waiting to hear whether he's accepted, etc. Planning and getting everything ready for Tyler's party, etc. I've just needed some relaxation for quite some time and kept having to reschedule a massage, but today I finally was able to make my appointment after work and school. WOOHOO! I hadn't had a massage since my January cruise, so I was in desperate need of one! This time they asked me if I'd like to try something different, and I told them I don't care what kind you do, as long as my muscles are relaxed when it's done. So they did a shiatsu deep tissue massage, which I've never had. I thought the woman was out of her mind when she told me she'd be doing it with her feet! :rotfl: I kept wanting to giggle when I thought of what she must look like, standing on my back, holding onto the parallel bars on the ceiling! :lmao: Too freaking funny! BUT it was an awesome massage and I left feeling taller!

Just had to share my euphoria at being so relaxed! :goodvibes

For all my friends doing DL this weekend.....have a wonderful time. I so wish I could be joining you!!

There goes my sister planning and more planning - wonder if we'll have any time to wander - that she doesn't have us "booked" for something.

Ah, the story of my life. My motto (from the last cruise) I don't know what we are doing, I'm just following my sister...! :dance3: :yay: :cool1: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Oh, sister, you know me, wandering aimlessly is what I'm good at! And didn't you notice I included a NAP in there? That's what YOU'RE good it! :lmao: :lmao:

Wasn't that the time we made up that entire song???? He was helping us "write" it - by writing things down on a piece of paper - then he "fell asleep" on the floor (I think we wore him out) and all the kids came over to our table because they wanted to know what was going on...and I told them that the bear was Hybernating... he stayed on the floor for what seemed like 15 minutes! What a great memory!:cloud9:

Yes, that was the "Rudolph the red cheeked salmon" experience.

You kids are making me really, really, really want a San Diego trip. Don't see how I can squeeze one in...well maybe September? :confused3

OK, heading home to pack and stuff....later kids!

You just reminded me I need to book a massage. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I know it can be nerve-racking waiting to hear if you child has been accepted. Just remember that feeling of relief when they tell you he has.

Thank you! We're supposed to find out the beginning of August. Seems so far away, but I'll be happy to be able to know either way.

Yes! I forgot about these! I've only eaten dinner at Humphrey's, never stayed there. I think Humphrey's summer concert series starts in May, so next year it may be going on while you're here, Marilyn. So many choices!

Didn't know that about the Navy!

Me too! As crazy as it sounds, I paid for three massage over a YEAR ago and have only used one. I should call and see if I can still use them. What an experience for you Holly! I want the hot stones.

That would be nice too! Here's a link to the description of what I had: http://creativewellness.net/ashiatsu-massage.php. I didn't really know anything about it beforehand and just discovered the info on their website a few minutes ago. Interesting. I just thought a massage was a massage and didn't realize different types served different purposes. As long as it makes me feel relaxed, I don't care what type I get. ;)

When the kids were little, I used to have them walk on my back. Felt great. Just a drive by post - busy night and need to get to bed so we can get up early to drive to Alex's graduation in Youngstown.
