Oh, yeah. We rented that one a while back for the boys. :thumbsup2 We keep trying to think of the "oldies but goodies" that the boys might like. They are sort of at an inbetween stage with movies: sometimes the animated stuff is too young for them or just too lame, and yet the PG-13 movies are too much. There isn't too much in between. Plus we like to find movies that the whole family will enjoy together. Anybody seen "Firehouse Dog" yet? I thought that might be cute.

We loved "Meet the Robinsons" last week. And even though POC and Spiderman will most likely be PG-13, they will be going to see those next month.

DH and youngest DD went to see that last week. I think he said it was cute and DD really liked it. I didn't really hear much about it though.

My list of oldies but goodies would include:

1. Back to the Future
2. Back to the Future II
3. Back to the Future III
4. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
5. A Kid in King Arthur's Court
6. Angels in the Outfield
7. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
8. Mighty Ducks
9. E.T. The Extra Terrestrial
10. Free Willy
11. Harry and the Hendersons
12. Jumanji
13. Kazaam
14. The Karate Kid
15. Max Dugan Returns
16. Napolean and Samantha
17. National Velvet
18. North
19. Raiders of the Lost Ark
20. Space Jam
21. Surf Ninjas

Another good one...The Princess Bride.
The Outsiders was one of my favorites from the 80's but it isn't necessarily a great one for the younger kids.
And of course my other sappy 80's movie is Dirty Dancing.
And, the first 3 Star Wars movies (which are actually 4, 5 & 6 now).

Saying 21 dead and 21 wounded with gunman dead too. At least it is over, but what awful news. Thoughts are with the parents, families and friends of those involved.:sad1:

Gunman kills 21 at Virginia Tech
By SUE LINDSEY
Associated Press Writer

BLACKSBURG, Va. - A gunman opened fire in a dorm and classroom at Virginia Tech on Monday, killing 21 people and wounding another 21 before he was killed, police said.

Today the university was struck with a tragedy that we consider of monumental proportions," said university president Charles Steger.

The university reported shootings at opposite sides of the 2,600-acre campus, beginning at about 7:15 a.m. at West Ambler Johnston, a co-ed residence hall that houses 895 people, and continuing about two hours later at Norris Hall, an engineering building.

All entrances to the campus were closed and classes canceled through Tuesday.

"There's just a lot of commotion. It's hard to tell exactly what's going on," said student Jason Anthony Smith, 19, who lives in the dorm where shooting took place.

Aimee Kanode, a freshman from Martinsville, said the shooting happened on the 4th floor of West Ambler Johnston dormitory, one floor above her room. Kanode's resident assistant knocked on her door about 8 a.m. to notify students to stay put.

"They had us under lockdown," Kanode said. "They temporarily lifted the lockdown, the gunman shot again."

"We're all locked in our dorms surfing the Internet trying to figure out what's going on," Kanode said.

Madison Van Duyne, a student who was interviewed by telephone on CNN, said, "We are all in lockdown. Most of the students are sitting on the floors away from the windows just trying to be as safe as possible."

It was second time in less than a year that the campus was closed because of a shooting.

In August 2006, the opening day of classes was canceled and the campus closed when an escaped jail inmate allegedly killed a hospital guard off campus and fled to the Tech area. A sheriff's deputy involved in the manhunt was killed on a trail just off campus.

The accused gunman, William Morva, faces capital murder charges.

OMG, Lisa/DisneyLover5, I just heard on the news that a gunman is loose on the campus of VA Tech in Blacksburg...you were just there this weekend. How spooky is that! Thank goodness you're home and safe now.

Such sad news. Noel thanks for posting the current updates. I saw VA Tech on the news and my heart lept out of my body for a moment. Lisa, so glad you and Daniel are home. I hope none of his friends are affected. We all need to send up prayers for the poor families affected by this tradegy.

I am crying so much now....22 dead.....28 injured. I was at all of these places all weekend. I can't believe this. I heard this at 10 in my car and I called my DS best friend. He lives in Pritchard. We hung out there (next to West AJ..the dorm that was shot up). He was just getting up right when it was being announced to the public. He said all the alarms were going off all over the campus and they have PA system thoughout the entire campus. Matt said it was repeating over and over "Take cover"

Norris Hall (the Engineering Building) is right next to where we spent most of our day. It is such a beautiful peaceful campus..I just can't believe this

Lisa, I'm at work and just got the alert from WSJ. I can't stay on DIS right now, but wanted to send a quick note that my thoughts and prayers are with you, your DS and all those that were affected. So extremely sad and scary. :sad1: :grouphug: :sad1: Lisa

It must be awful for you and your son having just been there and knowing students there too. It is so senseless and so many people are affected by it. So sad.:sad1:

I am so glad that you and your son are safe!! What a terrible tragedy for all these families. I can never understand why anyone would take such extreme measures when they are angry with their lives.

Oh, it is terrible - at least 20 dead at the Virginia University.

such terrible news, my heart goes out to all the families and friends of those affected by this. Glad to hear Disneylover & son got back safely, but how awful for everyone.

I have trouble remembering which way to look first when walking across the street over there! :rotfl: But I seem to remember that it's painted on the road for us dumb tourists which way to look! :rotfl2: (At least, I think I saw that in London).

lol Holly, those pesky London streets are a nightmare sometimes!;)

Lisa...so glad to hear that you are OK and that your son's friend is safe. This is such a tragedy. Thoughts and prayers to all those involved and affected by this horrible situation.

Fairfax County (that is where we live) closed schools 3 hours early because of the high winds (60mph)....we have lots and lots of temporary classrooms in Fairfax County and they were worried about them blowing over.

We have a media room in our house. Right now there are 10 seniors in there watching the VA Tech news and playing a game. 7 of them are supposed to go to VA Tech next fall. They are all boys, so I think they are trying to be tough....I hear laughter....but I know they are all a little scared.

Daniel goes to the largest High School in the state of VA...Westfield HS. There are 1,000 kids in his graduating class. 80 of them were accepted at Tech. Last year 40 kids went to Tech. I am just praying for all these families who are getting bad news now.....

This is just killing me inside.....so sad........

Lisa,

To worry for our children and children of others that is our job. My heart is with you and prayers for all involved or connect. :grouphug:

We watched Space Camp this weekend with the boys. They had never seen it. Anybody remember that movie? It was very 80's, but actually held up pretty well. The boys thought it was fun.[/qoute]

I bought the VHS a couple of years back to watch at the cottage. Memories.:cool2: first time I saw it was before I had been to sleep over camp, oh I so wanted to go, then I did and it was nothing like space camp, nothing...

I've been reading everyday.

Lisa,
On the campus here the VA tech news is fairly big. Lots of talk and concern for the families. Gald you and your son are safe and home. Hugs
