Holly,

I highly DOUBT that we are talking about the same thing!! Unless you mean dishes, laundrey, computer work for the wine shop...:surfweb:

See what I mean, DOUBT we're talking about the same thing.:rolleyes1

Karen

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Well......I did do dishes and laundry that day. ;)

My DD always used to laugh at my "cleaning for the cleaning lady" until he "got it" about getting the clutter out of the way so that the place could "really" be cleaned!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Karen
OH! Now I get it too! That does make sense. :thumbsup2 But you know, all this talk here about cleaning got me motivated yesterday and after my workout at the gym, I scrubbed my bathroom, put away some laundry, vaccuumed, and thought about cleaning up my bedroom. So thanks everybody for all the cleaning talk!

Very funny!:lmao:

By any chance, are you WDW anytime before your cruise? We sill be there till about the 24th or the 25th.

Karen

Nope. I wish we were because I can't stand having to wait so long to meet everybody...especially my favorites! But if we went early, it would cut into one more of Tyler's dad's days with him and with that being the day after Thanksgiving, he'd be off work and would really miss that whole day with him.

BTW . . . Dad is doing better every day - they found some polyps in his stomache (caused the anemia) and hopefully they will come back benign.

And in case you were wondering (Holly)

BUCKEYES WIN!

:rotfl2: Umm....thanks John. I would have been on pins & needles waiting to hear. Yeah, that's it. :rotfl: Have a great trip!

Happy birthday to all the birthday folks today! (Hope Becky feels better so she can enjoy her birthday too.)

Karen, I'm sorry you were stuck talking to yourself for so long, but glad to see you kept yourself entertained! :rotfl2:

Now...everybody have a great day! I'm off...have to be to work in 20 minutes. :scared1: Glad I only had 2 pages to catch up on!

This is a question for the those among us who are not US citizens. I have been reading the latest passport thread. It's getting a little heated. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1386812

When do people get passports in your country?

Do most people get passports in your country get them as just part of the norm at a certain age or do they, like most of the people here wait until they plan a trip?

I think we have been spoiled in being allowed to travel with just Birth certificates. I remember as a child and even in my 20's being able to cross the border between Canada and Mexico and only having to declare I was a US Citizen, with no proof what so ever.
I went to the Bahamas and brought only my Driver's license.

I'm probably wrong, but I bet all other countries, except our bordering neighbors, require passports for travel. We are lucky we have gotten away without them for so long.

JMHO

I don't think people in the UK get them just as a matter of course, but they do need them to travel pretty much anywhere. Supposedly we don't now need them to travel in Europe but you have to have some sort of identification so I would think a passport is easiest.

When I was a child you were added to your mother or father's passport and weren't expected to have your own until the age of 16. I had to have my own at 15 when we went to live overseas, in case I needed to travel without my parents. It was only issued for 5 years instead of 10; to get it extended I had to have a new photo added to it - so my passport had 2 different photos in it, which was unusual. These days everyone has to have their own passport in order to travel, even babies.

Our passports last 10 years. I can't imagine not having one. I used to like having a US Visa in my passport, but the system has changed now to the visa waiver scheme.

and thought about cleaning up my bedroom. !

I've been THINKING about doing some cleaning for the past couple of weeks now................:lmao:

Happy Birthday Marilyn, Cork & Becky!

I managed to crash shortly after the DISboards last night. Took a book into the bedroom and fell asleep by 9PM (boards were down at 8p). So I'm bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning. Think I'll actually cook some eggs for breakfast.

If thinking could only do the cleaning....and the ironing......and the exercising.........!!!:rotfl:

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I'm being very lazy - well apart from the big pile of ironing! (Been thinking about it, but it was still there!)

Where abouts in Phoenix do you live Jackie? Mind you, I have only been to Scottsdale, and also a motel closer to a Mall on the western side of the area, so would really have no idea anyway!! That mall was the first place I ever smelled Cinnabons!!!

Stayed three times in Phoenix area and one longer stay in Tucson. We love the area and the weather, even though it was June two of the times we stayed!!!:sunny:

lol......should amend this to say my accent is most definately a 'Southend on Sea' accent...which is actually EAST of London, not south if that makes any sense at all!!!!!:confused3 :rotfl:

:thumbsup2 Some what longer ago then I might care to admit while I was in the Navy I had the pleasure of spending a little more than a week tied up at Southend on Sea. I had a great time there and took the train into London more than once. the pier was a ton of fun and there nwas this great little place right at the shore side end of it that made the most wonderful hot fresh doughnuts..... would love to do that again........without the Navy.

Grumpy John on the run again:scared:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL THE BIRTHDAY GIRLS!!

Hope everyone's Friday is starting out in the right way...my tummy isn't feeling too good today....thinking I may need to leave work early.

Don't remember who asked this but ..... I haven't decided if I'm spending a day at DL after the cruise or just coming home....if it wasn't Memorial Day weekend I'd definatley do DL, but I'm thinking it will probably be a zoo there that day and I'm not one that really likes crowds.

I bought my plane tkts for NYC for Memorial Day weekend this year (girls theatre weekend) - now we just need to nail down what shows we want to see and buy those tkts.

Ok - off to work (ugh). I'll try to check in later in the day.

You might like to see the words to this famous Yorkshire song. Wish I could sing it for you!! We used to live on the side of Ilkley Moor, always a windy place but quite wild and lovely, and this old song is in the Yorkshire dialect.

Hi guys,

I wanted to drop a post in here because I have no idea when I will get the opportunity to catch up now , or post . . .

Some of you are aware that we lost my mom the week leading into our cruise with the “Geeks” this last December. I got mom to the hospital the Saturday before our cruise, and by Sunday evening she had passed away. We ended up delaying our trip by a day, and going on the cruise with a heavy heart, which was uplifted by all of our friends here.

Well, yesterday I got a call from where my dad goes for physical therapy that he had passed out while there, and they called 911. So I spent a good part of the day and evening at the hospital yesterday. Dad is in good spirits, and is stable, but they have discovered a clot in each leg, low blood count, and fluid on his heart and his lungs (congestive heart failure). He is now in the coronary unit of our local hospital.

I am optimistic that dad will be fine, and that he is under good care.

We are hopeful for a good prognosis, and hopeful to still leave for a week on Friday.

I am sorry sorry to hear this, but I am glad it looks like he is on the upswing. I could not read all of the posts.....stopped at 10270 and will come back later.
Very hard when your loved ones become sick.

I have to say, there seems to be so much tragedy right now.:sad2: We just got a call here at the office that a friend of ours DH was killed last night by a drunk driver. He was a state cop who was on his way home from a meeting and was hit head on. My good friend (also a state cop) was the first on the scene and was the one who had to go pick up his wife and take her to the hospital. They have 2 boys, 2 & 5.
OK, I am ready for some good stories now...maybe back to HP discussions or how about SHOES??????:cool1:

This just breaks my heart.....

Real blond, but sorry if I offended anyone. I'm getting more and more grey by the day, however. I think it's time for highlights to camoflauge the grey.

I have found out Blond and Grey do not mix. I have always been a dirty blonde and have had my hair highlighted once or twice a year.....just a little. Last week, when I went to get my hair done, they told me no more highlighting....too much GREY :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Just what I needed to hear a fews before the big 50!!

They said they had to use paper......I almost walked out...but was leaving the next day for a big meeting in FL....I let me them do it and I am really a BLOND now......not sure if I like it or not.....

I was thinking they wanted me in more that a few times a year (at $250 per visit!!). I am thinking after 20 years I may change hairdressers now......

Don't forget to answer my question from first thing this morning UK time. What are your plans for after the cruise?
QUOTE]

Happy Birthday Marilyn and all today's birthday people. :bday:

We have to head straight home after the cruise and get back to work.
Unless between then and now we win the lottery or come up on ERNIE! (Okay, who is going to explain ERNIE to our US friends?)

We're looking at flying either Continental from Birmingham (Bham-Newark-Orlando then LA-Newark-Bham) or American from Manchester (Man-Chicago-Orlando then LA-Chicago-Man), but both are too early (0830ish) for us to fly on the Sunday from LA. We can either stay overnight in LA and have a very early start on Monday, or do the first leg on Sunday and stop overnight in Newark/Chicago, flying home from there on the Monday evening. The only way we can fly home on the Sunday is going into London, which we always try to avoid.

Birmingham is our closest airport and we can park there for free (DH works there) but we tend to use Manchester because we like flying American.

Good Morning!

No DIS'ing last night as the boards were getting upgraded - again!

Catching our plane in a bit to head down to the World!

Catch up with you guys later!

Have a good time John!:cool1:

BTW . . . Dad is doing better every day - they found some polyps in his stomache (caused the anemia) and hopefully they will come back benign.

Glad your Dad is starting to recover, will keep him in our prayers.

I think the best thing about Harrods is the Krispy Kreme Donut Theatre! :)

:rotfl: well, we stood and looked at them for a while!;)

wow John! I used to work in a little place right by the pier when I was at school, where we sold hot doughnuts! they tasted lovely but I used to come home smelling of hot fat by the end of a long Summer day.....:rolleyes1 ...not very attractive! It's great someone's heard of Southend (or 'Saffend' as it's known by us locals!)
