And it is predicted to get into the 80's tomorrow and be beautiful through the weekend, right V :rolleyes1 Not really I know, but a girl can dream, right....Still haven't packed and trying to decide if I even bother bringing shorts or such.

How did it turn out? I haven't caught up yet, so maybe I'll find out....the excitement of right clicking!!!

Lisa...it isn't worked out yet (did I already post this info..if so, sorry for the repeat post:rolleyes1 ). I guess I really won't know until tomorrow when I get to the hotel:sad2: Everyone can be sending me :goodvibes and pixiedust: around 8:30/9 est friday hoping I get in. Otherwise, I am ok with just taking a weekend off with my Mom...despite the fact I wouldn't have picked right now to just take off to florida.

Just booked our first DVC vacation! 17 nights(yes 17) at SSR from November 30th. We will probably mess around with a few of the dates such as going up to Universal for a couple of nights etc instead of a few SSR days. Just wanted to have something booked and in place.

What date can concierge book at 105 days out.....what date would that be? And who wants to volunteer to do the group dinners and brunches that Noel has the lists of? and who wants to book the high tea couples and ladies only that I have the lists of? We're looking for a concierge volunteer.....any takers? We need to coordinate by 105 days out.

quick note then will go back to catch up...

Met w/ the sleep study dr today....this is what he said....

I have a case of mild sleep apnea at this moment, but he wants me to come in for another sleep study using the mask (assuming CPap machine and this time I will be taking earplugs). I'm scheduled for that tomorrow night. Results from this will be on the 24th.

I stopped breathing 4 times per hour....and that was with crappy sleep.

Where is Noel? I am sure she would have done this. I'm getting worried about her.

Wow Monica, and they call that mild sleep apnoea? You must be so tired during the day. Hope they can sort you out.

John,
Can I ask for your opinion - when you have an executive level position that needs to be laid off, is there an ideal amount of team that you can give? i.e. I had to lay off our HR generalist (we will be outsourcing, but haven't selected the company/consultant yet). It seemed to me this was a position that should have a transition and I gave her notice of the layoff, incentive to stay for transition, etc. One of the HR companies I am interviewing gave me a lecture about how you can never keep someone on after you give them notice of the lay-off. Any thoughts? Thanks! Lisa

Lisa,

As you have already stated, there are two schools of thought on this. Our union requires a one-week notice of layoff or pay in lieu of notice for one week. I had to go to 25 people in the first round and give them that notice, and these are customer service type employees in a Supermarket. I tried to talk our owner into just paying them the week, but he wanted them to work for it. It was a horrible, but manageable week. The employees were upset, showed it to the customer, and were not that productive.

Where Amy works, they are doing a RIF, and gave people several weeks notice. Different business, different type of employee. Same initial shock, but probably not as much damage done.

You have to ask yourself, who is the person, how well do I know them, and if they wanted to, what damage could they do to the business if I tell them early. As a generalization, I would think an HR employee would take it with more understanding than some others, but everyone is human. On the flipside, an HR person could do considerable damage if they so desired.

You have to make the call based on your best information and instincts.

And it is predicted to get into the 80's tomorrow and be beautiful through the weekend, right V :rolleyes1 Not really I know, but a girl can dream, right....Still haven't packed and trying to decide if I even bother bringing shorts or such.

Going down to FIVE degrees here by Sunday!:scared1:

Kayla's appointment with the Orthopedic Surgeon was rather uneventful. He looked at the xrays and said "And why are you here?". Actually, this was the best question we have heard in awhile. Great news. We had been worried all week about her having to go through surgery. Lost time and costs can't be recovered, but the peace of mind is wonderful. Her arm has healed perfectly.
Oh, that's GREAT news! :goodvibes You all must be so relieved. :thumbsup2

Carol & Monica:

I'm with ya gals. I have had my bouts too, mostly post-partum in timing, but not just the baby blues. A client of mine was killed in a motorcycle accident just one month after I had Molly. This sent me into a very long fog of sadness and panic attacks and migraines. I ended up taking depression meds ~ 3 + years later (after Wilson was born) The meds caused my weight gain and for that I'm mad. I have to say the meds for me just masked my feelings of everything. Made me feel numb. It worked for the short term, but I'm so glad I weaned off them and found other oulets. Funny enough Disney is one of the big outlets for me too. Fortunately, my DH understands and supports the cause. I know exercise would be the ulitmate solution, but I'm stuck in that can't get started place too. Trying to work on the eating, but alas, when I stress over work, I eat. Bad thing I know. Maybe I need to bend to Paul's request to get a treadmill or thing like that for the house. OK, back to reading. Just meant to tell you guys that I'm hearing you and feeling you.

Thanks Nan   to you too!

Carol I have been dealing with depression and panic attacks for almost 21 years. It is a terrible thing to have to deal with and you sometimes do feel like you are the only one. Panic attacks are the worst as you just feel like you are having a heart attack, at least I do. When mine first started I would get so scared and of course that only made them worse. I look back and there is a whole year of my life that is a total blur due to depression and panic attacks. Jan and Feb are my worst months every years.

I think there are more people that suffer from this than we would believe. I have found that everyone has a story, nothing ever is what it seems.

Thanks Amy for sharing. I agree 100% that more people suffer from this than we know. My father always used to expect me to "snap out of it"...until I went into therapy and got on meds the 1st time (I think I was 25 or 26).

In the back of my mind I knew I had something wrong. I stand corrected.

Amy too. She gets nervous in unfamiliar places.

I would not say anything if Amy had not spoken up on her own. It seems that more people suffer from this than one would ever imagine, and Amy's started right after Alex's birth. I can tell you there were some very difficult and trying times. I can also tell you it has helped me understand others a lot better because I could never understand this type of illness until it touched my own life. I have seen it a lot with various employees now in my position in HR, and it has made me more empathetic.

My problems Nan relate to weight and stress too. Two years ago I was heading in the right direction, and I am getting back on track now. Mom's passing and the unbelievable stress I had at work when I had to RIF people made me fall off the wagon. The elliptical machine is ready to put together, and I have gone back on my better diet - down about 4 pounds in the last week. Once I get my activity level up again, I will feel better and start losing quicker too. You just have to find your own way and your own will to do it. It is indeed hard.

John - way to go on the 4lbs :woohoo: Keep coming back to us and we'll help you w/ the stress release :goodvibes

By the way, since we were talking of 'series' books...Janet Evanovich's lastest just came out at the beginning of the month. It is an in between Stephanie Plum novel..Plum Lovin' is the title if I remember correctly. I'll probably pick that up at the airport tomorrow and read it during my lovely red eye!

It looks like I am flying back east for no real reason but I will go to the conference with my fingers crossed hoping they feel pity for me and let me in. Otherwise, my mom and I will visit all the places we used to go with my grandparents when they lived on Anna Maria Island, and then head to WDW :cool1: Spending 1 night at AKL and 1 night at Pop Century. My first time to WDW not staying at DVC...it will be weird. I booked too late and it is a 3 day weekend.

Monica, I think we are going to Epcot on Sunday for the day if you happen to be heading there, PM me!

Is it this Sunday the 20th?? Let me check my schedule to see what (if anything) I have planned, but I may be able to swing by :rotfl:

Monica,

Just from your upbeat outlook on here and meeting you I would never have guessed that you were dealing with that.

So glad that you have found some helpful meds and that you are doing better!!

All our best to you!

Karen

Thanks Karen  - I learned very early to "act" like everything was ok. While I love my father dearly we had many issues in our relationship, and wouldn't have understood anything. I learned to mask my feelings, and started self medicating myself w/ alcohol very early in life....made things bearable as I was numb alot. I learned also (later in life) that it's ok to feel what I feel when I feel it, and that I'm able to tell (luckily) when my life feels like it's spiraling out of control.

Having friends like I have here also makes it easy to be upbeat :lovestruc

Wow, what a road. So glad you are feeling well. I know it can be very complicated finding the right medication to assist with this. You now have energy to do things that many of, not even having to deal with depression, have the energy to do. That is awesome! Lisa

Thanks Lisa!

:thumbsup2

:grouphug: I have suffered with depression but not panic attacks. They must be so scary.

I think we are all used to keeping, or trying to keep, our depression quiet because of other people's views of the illness.

Marilyn - this is so true!

    to you too!

there is a poster on cruise critic who posted he's lived there for 10 years(PV) and would gladly help with any questions...I emailed him a few of mine, thought I would share with you all.

Hello Vanessa, thank you for your email, to answer your questions.

1. Where is the closest place to the port to rent a jeep?
The closest place to rent a jeep is at the airport which is a very close distant from where you will port.

2. Really, how far - time wise - is it to Chico's?
It will take you about 45 mins to 1 hour to drive there.

3. What are the area's best beaches?
The best Beach's for me and where most are and most of the tours like are on a tour
santamariacruses.com,, but not to worry there are no bad Beach's in P.V... Where ever you go you will love the Beach's, I promise.

4. Shopping, what kind of items is PV known for that we should be looking for?
We have almost everything, I don{t know what your taste is or what type of items you are interested in, but they have everything from jewelry shops to hand made items that are beautiful (and all reasonable if you know where to look), if you tell me what you have in mind I could be a better help to you.

5. Is there a detailed map to Chico's? I have looked online all over the place and can't find anything.
You got me on that one, they have maps here in town but nothing that I know where to go tell you to look on the Internet.

Yes I love it down here I would not move back to the states if you paid me (smile). If I can be of any more help to you please let me know.

Kindest Regards
