Marilyn...my hubby doesn't do excited, either!!:) He's asked several times, "What do you want? Me to jump up and down and scream like a girl?" Well, sure! That would be fun!:) No, really, that would be really unsettling...

Carolyn
Some how Disney got them excited because now they have the bug. I want to know how Disney does it. My DH swore he would never take a cruise and the minute we were back he was looking to book again.:rotfl: Disney please give us your secret. Although DH will never show me his excitement, I know it is there somewhere. I am glad to see someone who works for the mouse be able to relax with the mouse.

Noel,
I just PM'd you with my information. Hope I'm not to late in adding us. Just now found the post while doing some catch up reading.

Thanks
Venetia

We love Santa Barbara. Not a far drive for us. We usually camp at El Capitan or Carpenteria. I really like El Capitan. Maybe we can meet up and you show us some of the local areas before the trip. We will be there a couple times this year.

Thanks for the warm welcome. you are just over the hill from us. Even though my profile says Santa Barbara, we are actually in Oxnard. I was born/raised in SB and told DH when we moved that I still got to say I'm from SB;)

Venetia:

I absolutely love Santa Barbara. Youngest sister went to University of Santa Barbara. My favorite Cajun restaraunt, the Palace Grill is there. Best soft shell crabs in the world. We usually stay at the Biltmore if there on Pleasure or if on business, the Fess Parker Doubletree (think it used to be the Red Lion)

Lori-why do you only have a couple of days? I thought you could add insurance by a certain time before sailing (but not this early)?! Please educate me (I'm terrible with this stuff, but know we need insurance for sure on this cruise).

By the, what happened to the darling photo in your signature of your girls?

Lots to catch up on this morning. I'm another one who doesn't drink coffee. Only tea. Favourite is Earl Grey which thankfully DCL does carry.

Fiona

I'm an Earl Grey lover too.....AND they have it in Decaf on the ship!
OK.....how much of a geek will I be if I admit I first tried it because of Capt. Jean-Luc Picard?

Hello,:)

My DH and I will be sailing with all you wonderful folks.

This will be our second DCL Cruise. .

Venetia

WELCOME!

I also used www.insuremytrip.com for both my cruises. Did a lump sum the first one (as I was traveling solo) and a per person the second one with my sister. Both times I just used the 'compare' feature to decide which one to pick. Most important to me was trip interruption and emergency medical evacuation $$$$.

....all caught up and back to work!....

To get pre-existing conditions excluded you must purchase the insurance within 14 days of initial payment. I didn't think Disney ever excluded, I think only one or two carriers exclude at all. I need to price the AAA family Access America plan, that will probably be the least expensive for us.

You can wait and get the insurance later if pre-existing conditions are not important to you.

Pre-existing would be something like heart issues or a chronic illness, right? So it sounds like, since we don't have anything like that in our family then we can wait.

You only have 14-15 days after putting a deposit to get pre-existing conditions to be covered. None of us have any pre-existing conditions but I am one of those types.

The Access America wording of pre-existing condition is:

'Any injury occurring prior to and including the effective date of insurance and any illness during the 120 days prior to and including the effective date for which medical diagnosis or treatment by a Physician has been sought or for which symptoms exist which would cause a prudent person to seek diagnosis, care, or treatment.'

They supposedly do not count medical conditions for which you have been seen that are under control if you are healthy enought to travel at the effective date of insurance.

For example, my DD with diabetes sees a dr every 3 months but if she was healthy and in control and able to travel at the time of purchase it should not exclude her from coverage.

Since this trip is so far away, it is that 3 month period from final payment to the trip that is the gamble, because if something happened you could just cancel.

There was a time not too long ago that we didn't have any pre-existing conditions either, so I understand those that are 'that type'.

My understanding is that the AAA Access America family plan offers higher benefit levels than the Disney Access America plan and the AAA plan is free for kids, I'm not sure why people buy the DCL coverage instead. Is it refundable if you cancel the trip? Can anyone explain that to me?

I think Disney is just more convenient and they just kind of sneak it in on the new travelers.

I am going to call Travel guard and just clarify what pre-existing conditions covers. I will let you know.

My DH was the same. Told me never to ask him to go on a cruise. Would not do one. Then in 05 when disney said they were bring the magic west, he said OK only because it was disney.
We are AP holders of many years for disneyland and we both love all things disney. So I guess Disney was the selling point. :wizard:

I just got off the phone with Travel Guard and basically if you have a diagnoses prior to sailing like diabetes and it keeps you from sailing you are covered. The only other thing I have to say is kids are free on the plan if you book early enough so it would be $80.00-$90.00 for DH and 61.00 for me kids are (free) included. A little better than some companies? That was the expanded plan.

That would be fun. I'm here every week day now. DH and I commute from oxnard now. We bought our first home a few years ago. We had to go south since we cant afford the ridicules home prices here. But I've been at the same job for 22 years and did not want to leave.

You have excellent taste in restaraunts. I love the Palace. My favorite is the bread pudding soufflé. If fact by boss just took me there for my birthday a few weeks ago. I work just up the street, so have had many business lunches there.
Excellent choice in hotels too. Can't beat staying right on the beach. Santa Barbara has one of the best beach front areas I know of other them my favorite city which is Monterery. Thats our weekend vacation spot.
